India gets its first crypto index
Mumbai-based financial content provider TickerPlant’s cryptocurrency app CryptoWire has launched India’s first index of global cryptocurrencies called IC15. The company said it is a rule-based broad market index by market capitalisation tracking the performance of the top 15 widely traded liquid cryptocurrencies that are listed on various crypto exchanges across the world.
GST probe may set precedent for crypto taxation
The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) conducted searches and raids on several crypto exchanges and asked them to pay GST on their transaction fees or margins. Legal experts have long debated on the categorization – and tax treatment – of cryptocurrencies. They are yet to converge on whether a cryptocurrency is indeed a currency, a commodity, a service, or something else.
