Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) reported a 149% year-on-year (YoY) jump in net profit to ₹372 crore for the quarter ended September (Q2 FY24). AGEL’s consolidated net revenue rose 40% YoY to ₹2,220 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹1,699 crore, up 96.2% YoY.

Sun Pharma to market Zydus’ novel anti-CKD drug Desidustat

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd has entered into a licensing agreement with Zydus Lifesciences to co-market the latter’s drug Desidustat in India. The drug is used to treat anaemia associated with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Zydus has granted Sun Pharma semi-exclusive rights to co-market the product in India. Sun Pharma will market the drug under the brand name RYTSTAT.

Marico Q2 Results: Net profit rises 17% YoY to ₹353 crore

Marico Ltd reported a 17% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to ₹353 crore for the quarter ended September 2023 (Q2 FY24). Its revenue from operations declined marginally to ₹2,476 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹497 crore, up 14.7% YoY. The company’s board declared a dividend of ₹3 per equity share.

Tata Motors wins Singur plant arbitration

Tata Motors Ltd secured an arbitral award amounting to ₹765.78 crores and interest as compensation for their investment in the now-defunct Singur plant. The automaker won the arbitrations against the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (WBIDC), the nodal agency of the West Bengal government’s Industry, Commerce & Enterprises Department. The scrapped Singur plant was initially intended for the production of the Tata Nano.

DLF Q2 Results: Net profit rises 31% YoY to ₹623 crore

DLF Ltd reported a 31% YoY increase in net profit to ₹623 crore for the quarter ended September (Q2 FY24). Its revenue from operations grew 4% YoY to ₹1,348 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹462 crore, up 6% YoY. Total expenses for the quarter rose marginally to ₹1,012 crore.

No payments pending for Russian oil imports: BPCL

According to Bharat Petroleum Corp’s (BPCL) head of finance, Ramakrishna Gupta, said the company has cleared all payments for Russian oil purchases. The Indian government has expressed discomfort over settling payment for Russian oil in Chinese yuan. He also added that BPCL was processing Russian oil at the maximum “potential level” at its three plants, averaging about 30-40% of overall crude intake.

TVS Motor Q2 Results: Net profit rises 32% YoY to ₹537 crore

TVS Motor Company reported a 32% YoY increase in net profit to ₹536.5 crore for the quarter ended September 2023 (Q2 FY24). Its revenue from operations rose 13% YoY to ₹8,145 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹900 crore, up 22% YoY. The overall two-wheeler and three-wheeler sales (including exports) grew by 5% YoY to 10.74 lakh units in Q2.

DGGI probes GCPL’s acquisition of Raymond’s consumer goods business

The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) is probing Godrej Consumer Products Ltd’s (GCPL)  acquisition of Raymond’s consumer goods business. GST authorities have asked Raymond Consumer Care Ltd (RCCL) to explain why GST should not be levied on the transaction amount. GCPL acquired the FMCG business, along with the Park Avenue, KS, KamaSutra and Premium trademarks, through a slump sale in April 2023 for ₹2,825 crore.

AU Small Finance Bank to acquire Fincare Small Finance Bank 

AU Small Finance Bank (SFB) is all set to acquire Fincare Small Finance Bank in an all-share deal and merge it with itself, subject to regulatory approvals. As per the agreement between the two, shareholders of Fincare SFB shall receive 579 equity shares of AU SFB for every 2,000 shares held. The merger would be effective from February 1, 2024.

Sri Lankan government renews Lanka IOC’s petroleum licence for 20 years

The Sri Lankan government has renewed the petroleum products licence granted to Lanka IOC for another 20 years. Lanka IOC is a subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL). The licence originally issued in 2003 was to expire in January 2024. The renewed license will allow Lanka IOC to continue its retail operations on the debt-trapped island nation until January 22, 2044.

Macrotech Developers Ltd (Lodha) plans to launch housing projects worth ₹12,000 crore by March 2024 to tap strong consumer demand for quality homes from branded players. The company also said it would easily achieve the ₹14,500 crore sales booking target fixed for the current financial year as against ₹12,070 crore in the previous year. Lodha has already achieved sales bookings of ₹6,890 crore during the first six months of FY24.

RIL Partners With NVIDIA to Develop AI Infra – Top Indian Market Updates

Here are some of the major updates that could move the markets on Monday:

Reliance partners with NVIDIA to develop India’s own AI infra

Reliance Industries is partnering with NVIDIA to develop India’s own large language model. The model will be trained on local languages and tailored for generative artificial intelligence (Al) applications. According to Nvidia, the companies will work together to build Al infrastructure that is “more powerful than the fastest supercomputer in India today”. NVIDIA will provide access to the most advanced NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and NVIDIA DGX Cloud, an Al supercomputing service in the cloud.

According to a Reuters report, Tata Group is also likely to announce a partnership with NVIDIA for AI.

NTPC Green Energy to develop green hydrogen hub in Tamil Nadu

NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) has partnered with V O Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) to develop a green hydrogen hub at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu. Both entities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard. Green hydrogen and its derivatives such as green ammonia and green methanol will be produced at the hub to be built on the land provided by VOCPA.

Oil India plans net zero by 2040

Oil India Ltd aims to invest ₹16,500 crore ($1.98 billion) in clean energy projects to meet its 2040 net zero carbon emissions goal. Indian Oil Corp, Bharat Petroleum Corp, Hindustan Petroleum Corp, GAIL (India) Ltd, and Oil & Natural Gas Corp have already announced their net zero goal. Together with Oil India, the six state-run energy companies plan to invest ₹6.38 lakh crore towards reducing carbon emissions.

Natco Pharma and other drug makers have been named defendants in an antitrust lawsuit regarding a generic cancer treatment drug in the US. Drug makers including Celgene Corporation, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Breckenridge Pharmaceutical Inc. have been named defendants by Louisiana Health Service & Indemnity Company, D/B/A Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and HMO Louisiana Inc. regarding anti-cancer treatment medication Pomalidomide.

SJVN signs agreement with BBMB to set up 18 MW solar project

SJVN Ltd has signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). The PPA is to set up an 18-megawatt (MW) solar power project at an investment of ₹90 crore. SJVN signed the agreement through its wholly-owned subsidiary SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL). The project will be developed on the land parcels of BBMB in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.

Coffee Day Global faces ₹228-crore default allegations

Coffee Day Global Ltd (CDGL) has been facing a legal challenge under Section 7 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016. CDGL owns and operates the Cafe Coffee Day chain of cafes. The case has been brought by IDBI Trusteeship Services Ltd and filed with the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in Bengaluru. The lawsuit alleges that Coffee Day Global has defaulted on payments totalling ₹228.5 crore.

EBITDA rose 25.7% YoY to Rs 1,716.6 crore during the quarter. EBITDA margin stood at 19.3%, compared to 17.1% in Q4 FY22. The company’s board recommended a dividend of Rs 140 per share.

Zydus Lifesciences has received the final approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for manufacturing and marketing Metronidazole Topical cream in the US. According to IQVIA data, the cream had sales of $25m in the US in the 12 months ended February 2023. Zydus’ Topical manufacturing facility in Ahmedabad will manufacture the product.

HDFC Asset Management Company Ltd (HDFC AMC) reported a 10% YoY increase in net profit to Rs 376.2 crore and a 5% rise in revenue to Rs 541 crore for Q4 FY23. The company’s Quarterly Average Assets Under Management (QAAUM) for Q4 was Rs 4.49 lakh crore, compared to Rs 4.32 lakh crore for the same period last year. The company’s board has recommended a dividend of Rs 48 per share.

Tata Consumer Q4 Results: Net profit rises 23% YoY to Rs 268 crore

Tata Consumer Products reported a net profit of Rs 268 crore for Q4 FY23 compared to the loss of Rs 217 crore in Q4 FY22. The revenue from operations rose 14% YoY to Rs 3,619 crore. The company’s profit before exceptional items and tax also increased 13% YoY to Rs 456 crore led by strong growth in the India branded business. Larsen and Toubro’s (L&T) Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) business has secured significant orders in India and overseas. L&T has won a power supply system order for the second phase of Chennai Metro and an order to supply, construct, test and commission a 132kV substation in the United Arab Emirates. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd has launched its ophthalmology treatment CEQUA in the Indian market to treat Dry Eye Disease (DED). Serum Institute to double investment in Biocon Biologics to $300 million

Serum Life Sciences will make an additional equity investment of $150 million in Biocon Biologics (BBL), a subsidiary of Biocon. It had invested $150 million in Biocon Biologics in November 2022, and this additional investment will be made through the conversion of the $150 million loan provided to Biocon Pharma into equity in BBL. The total aggregate equity investment of SILS in BBL will now amount to $300 million.

AU Small Finance Bank has reported a 23% YoY increase in net profit to Rs 425 crore. The Net Interest Income (NII) also increased 37% YoY to Rs 4,425 for Q4 FY23. The bank’s total income rose 34% YoY to Rs 9,240 crore. The gross non-performing assets ratio fell to 1.7% from 1.98% in Q4 FY22. The bank’s board proposed a 10% dividend of Rs 1 per equity share for Q4 FY23.

Piramal Pharma has passed an inspection by the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) of its manufacturing facility in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, and issued an Establishment Inspection Report (EIR) for the unit. The inspection took place between December 19, 2022, and January 13, 2023. The Sellersville facility is involved in manufacturing and packaging solid oral dosage forms, liquids, creams, and ointments.

The Vedanta-Foxconn semiconductor joint venture (JV) has shared its technology partners with the Indian government.Vedanta will take the lead on the construction of the Gujarat factory, with revenue expected by 2027. The consortium plans to begin manufacturing chips of 40 nm on a factory line with a capacity of 40,000 wafers per month. The Indian govt has promised to cover half of the project cost and provide other incentives as part of a $10 billion package to promote domestic semiconductor manufacturing.

IndusInd Bank signs $100 million loan deal with JBIC to aid Japanese OEMs in India

IndusInd Bank has signed a long-term loan agreement with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) to provide credit facilities to companies in the supply chain of Japanese origin equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in India. The funds raised will be used to provide need-based credit facilities to upstream and downstream companies of Japanese construction equipment firms in India, including component suppliers, dealers, and final buyers of the machinery. The $100 million loan is the first of its kind by JBIC through an IFSC Banking unit at GIFT City.

Prestige Estates has reported the highest-ever sales of Rs 12,930.9 crore, up 25% YoY, and collections of Rs 9,805.5 crore, up 31% YoY during FY23. Quarterly sales were up 19% YoY to Rs 3,888.8 crore and quarterly collections up 12% YoY to Rs 2,763.3 crore in Q4 FY23. The company sold over 9,600 homes in FY23 and launched 26.38 million square feet, up 57% YoY.

RBI grants AU Small Finance Bank permission to deal with foreign exchange

AU Small Finance Bank has received permission from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to act as an Authorised Dealer (Category-I (AD-I) under section 10 of FEMA, 1999). The permission is subject to compliance of applicable regulations. In addition, the RBI has approved the re-appointment of Sanjay Agarwal as managing director and CEO of the bank and Uttam Tibrewal as whole-time director for a period of three years.

Zydus Lifesciences gets USFDA approval to manufacture generic anti-inflammatory drug

Zydus Lifesciences has received final approval from the USFDA to manufacture and market generic Roflumilast Tablets used to reduce inflammation in the lungs that leads to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The drug will be manufactured at the group’s formulation manufacturing facility in SEZ Ahmedabad. Roflumilast Tablets had annual sales of USD 34 million in the United States in FY23.

Shakti Pumps gets pending $1 million for Ugandan Water Project from EXIM Bank

Shakti Pumps has received a pending USD 1 million from EXIM Bank on behalf of the Government of Uganda for a project aimed at providing safe and sustainable water supply to half a million people in 20 rural districts. The project involves the supply of a solar-powered water pumping system, for which Shakti Pumps was awarded a contract worth USD 35.30 million in March 2021 by the Ministry of Water and Environment of the Ugandan government.

NBCC (India) Limited has been awarded a project worth Rs 208 crore from PWD Puducherry. The project involves providing comprehensive design, engineering, and project management consultancy services for a range of infrastructure works, including the construction of a disabled accessible platform, iconic cycle track, and sewage system remodeling. UltraTech Cement commissions 2.2 MTPA cement grinding unit in Bihar

UltraTech Cement has commissioned a 2.2 MTPA Brownfield expansion at its grinding unit in Patliputra, Bihar, increasing its grinding capacity to 4.7 mtpa. The expansion will allow the company to meet growing demand for cement in the East region and increase its blended cement ratio. UltraTech Cement’s total grey cement manufacturing capacity in India is now 129.15 mtpa. The company reported a 12% YoY increase in consolidated sales volume to 105.7 million tonnes in FY23. A 14% YoY increase in grey cement volumes to 100.1 mt was also reported.

HUL Q3 Results: Net profit rises 12% YoY to ₹2,505 crore

Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) reported an 11.6% year-on-year (YoY) increase in net profit to ₹2,505 crore for the quarter ended December (Q3 FY23). Its revenue from operations rose 16% YoY to ₹14,986 crore during the same period. This revenue growth was largely driven by Beauty & Personal Care (up 10%) and Home Care segments (up 32%). HUL said its royalty and central services fees to Unilever Plc will increase from 2.65% to 3.45% over three years.

AU Small Finance Bank (SFB) reported a 30% YoY increase in net profit to ₹392.82 crore for the quarter ended December (Q3 FY23). The net interest income (NII) rose 41% YoY to ₹1,153 crore during the same period. The gross non-performing assets (GNPA) ratio improved from 2.6% in Q3 FY22 to 1.81% in Q3 FY23. The bank’s operating profit stood at ₹555 crore in Q3 FY23, up 21.17% YoY.

Maharashtra govt. approves M&M’s proposal to set up ₹10,000Cr EV plant in Pune

The Maharashtra govt. has approved Mahindra & Mahindra’s proposal to set up a ₹10,000-crore electric vehicle (EV) plant in Pune under the state’s industrial promotion scheme for EVs. The automaker will make this investment over 7-8 years for setting up the manufacturing facility, development, and production of its upcoming Born Electric Vehicles (BEVs). These models will include the e-SUVs under M&M’s iconic brand XUV.

Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd has received tentative approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) for Acalabrutinib Capsules. The capsule is used to treat mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) in adults who have received at least one previous treatment for their cancer. MCL is a type of blood cancer that affects white blood cells. As per IQVIA data, Acalabrutinib Capsules had an estimated market size of $1.5 billion in the US for the 12 months ended Sept 2022.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) handled the highest-ever cargo in a quarter at 90.89 million metric tonnes (MMT) during the April-June period (Q1) of FY23, registering a growth of 8% YoY. In June alone, the company handled the highest ever monthly cargo of 31.88 MT, registering a 12% YoY growth. Mundra (21%), Hazira (16%), Kattupalli & Ennore combined (38%), and Dahej (70%) are the key ports that helped drive this monthly volume growth.

AU Small Finance Bank’s loans grow 42 % YoY in Q1 

AU Small Finance Bank (SFB) posted a 42% year-on-year (YoY) and 5% QoQ growth in credit to Rs 49,366 crore in the quarter ended June (Q1 FY23). Loan disbursements jumped 345% YoY to Rs 8,445 crore during the same period. The lender’s total deposits grew by 48% YoY (or 4% QoQ) to Rs 54,631 lakh crore in Q1.

Tata Motors plans to sell five lakh cars in FY23

Tata Motors Ltd has announced plans to sell five lakh cars in the current financial year (FY23). Chairman N Chandrasekaran also expressed confidence that electric vehicle (EV) sales will cross one lakh units by the next fiscal year. The automaker aims to expand the product portfolio to 10 EVs by 2025 and expects the share of EVs in total sales to rise to 25% in the next five years.

Va Tech Wabag secures order worth Rs 430 crore from Reliance Industries

Va Tech Wabag Ltd has secured a Rs 430 crore order from Reliance Industries Ltd for establishing a desalination plant at Jamnagar. The scope of work includes the design, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plant. This plant is scheduled to be completed over a 21-month period.

NTPC power generation rises 22% YoY in Q1 

NTPC Limited reported a 22% YoY growth in power generation at 104.4 billion units (BU) in the April-June quarter (Q1 FY22). The company posted a 29% YoY rise in power generation at 34.8 BU during June 2022, compared to 26.9 BU in June 2021. NTPC has also become India’s first energy company to declare its energy compact goals as part of the UN High-level Dialogue on Energy (HLDE).

RBI imposes Rs 1.05 crore penalty on Kotak Mahindra Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1.05 crore on Kotak Mahindra Bank. The penalty can be attributed to non-compliance with the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, and directions on ‘Customer Protection– Limiting Liability of Customers in Unauthorised Electronic Banking Transactions’, and ‘Loans and Advances– Statutory and Other Restrictions’. 

In other news, RBI has imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore on IndusInd Bank for non-compliant with certain Know Your Customer (KYC) norms.

Adani Enterprises declared lowest bidder in CIL import tender

Adani Enterprises Ltd has emerged as the lowest bidder in Coal India Ltd’s first coal import tender. The company quoted Rs 4,033 crore for the supply of 2.416 million tonnes (MT) of coal on a freight-on-road (FOR) basis. The imported coal will go to seven state-generating companies and 19 private power plants.
