Manufacturing PMI Slips to 55.5 in October – Top Indian Market Updates

Manufacturing PMI falls to 8-month low of 55.5 in October

India’s manufacturing activity slipped to the lowest level in eight months in October 2023. The S&P Global Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) fell to 55.5 in October, compared to 57.5 in September. There was a slower increase in total new orders, production, exports, buying levels and stocks of purchases last month. Hiring activity and business confidence slipped to a five-month low.

PMI is a month-on-month calculation, and a value above 50 represents an expansion compared to the previous month.

Sun Pharma Q2 Results: Net profit rises 5% YoY to ₹2,375.5 crore

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd reported a 5% year-on-year (YoY) increase in consolidated net profit to ₹2,375.5 crore for the quarter ended September (Q2 FY24).. Its revenue from operations rose 11% YoY to ₹12,192 during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹3,179.3 crore in Q2, up 8% YoY. The pharma company posted an 11% YoY growth in India formulations sales to ₹3,842.5 crore.

Fino Payments Bank likely to apply for SFB license by year-end: MD

Fino Payments Bank is likely to apply for the small finance bank (SFB) license by the end of this year, managing director Rishi Gupta said. The bank has nearly ₹600 crore of net worth while the minimum capital requirement for small finance banks is pegged at ₹200 crore. Reserve Bank of India allows non-corporate payments banks to apply for a small finance bank license after completing five years of business.

JK Tyre Q2 Results: Net profit jumps 401% YoY to ₹248 crore

 JK Tyre and Industries Ltd reported a 401% YoY jump in net profit to ₹248.6 crore for the quarter ended September (Q2 FY24). Its revenue grew 4% YoY to ₹3,905 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹597 crore in Q2, up from ₹305 crore during the same period last year. The tyre maker also approved an investment of ₹1,025 crore for expanding its manufacturing capacity.

Q2 GDP number will surprise on the upside: RBI Governor

India’s growth momentum remains strong and the second-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) growth number is expected to surprise on the upside, said Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das. The GDP growth figure for the July-September quarter (Q2) will be released on November 30 by the National Statistical Office (NSO). GDP growth rose to a four-quarter high of 7.8% in April-June.

The RBI has projected GDP growth at 6.5% for FY24 and 6.5% for Q2.

Ambuja Cements Q2 Results: Net profit jumps 9-fold YoY to ₹792.96 crore

Ambuja Cements reported a nine-fold YoY jump in consolidated net profit to ₹792.96 crore for the quarter ended September 2023 (Q2 FY24). Its revenue from operations declined 4.1% YoY to ₹7,423.95 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹1,302 crore in Q2 FY24, compared to ₹975 crore in Q2 FY23.

SpiceJet inducts five Boeing 737 aircraft

SpiceJet has inducted five leased Boeing 737s (including three 737 Max aircraft) into its fleet. The introduction of these aircraft will help the airline launch several exciting new flight routes and services. SpiceJet operates about 250 daily flights to 48 destinations within India and to international destinations. Its fleet is a mix of aircraft, including Boeing 737 Max, Boeing 700 and Q400s.

Adani Wilmar Q2 Results: Net loss at ₹131 crore

Adani Wilmar reported a net loss of ₹131 crore for the quarter ended September 2023 (Q2 FY24). This included a one-time loss of ₹53.5 crore. The company had posted a net profit of ₹48.76 crore in Q2 FY23. Its revenue from operations fell 13% YoY to ₹12,267.15 crore in Q2 FY24. EBITDA stood at ₹144 crore, down 43% YoY.

Tata Motors gets PLI certificate in 4-wheeled goods vehicle category

The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) awarded Tata Motors with India’s first auto Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) certificate in the N1 category, specifically on four-wheeled goods vehicles. The primary objective of the PLI scheme is to improve efforts in localising production and stimulate exports within the automotive industry.

Auto sales data for October 2022: Highlights  

Maruti Suzuki India posted a 19% year-on-year (YoY) increase in total sales to 1.99 lakh units in October 2022. Sales of its compact vehicle segment fell 3.4% YoY to 98,621 units. Exports rose 7.4% YoY to 21,951 units.

Tata Motors Ltd registered a 6% YoY increase in total sales to 80,825 units in October. The automaker’s commercial vehicle sales rose 4% YoY to 34,317 units. Overall passenger vehicle sales rose 7% YoY to 48,637 units.

Mahindra & Mahindra’s passenger vehicle segment posted total sales of 43,708 units in October, an increase of 35% YoY. M&M’s tractor sales fell 3% YoY to 50,460 units. 

Bajaj Auto posted a 19% YoY increase in total sales to 4.08 lakh units in October. Meanwhile, TVS Motor Company’s total sales stood at 3.44 lakh units in Oct, up 22% YoY.

Jio-BP to set up EV charging infra at Omaxe properties

Real estate developer Omaxe Ltd has partnered with Jio-bp to establish a battery charging ecosystem for electrical vehicles. Jio-bp is a fuel and mobility joint venture (JV) between Reliance Industries and UK-based bp. The JV will install 24×7 EV charging and swapping infrastructure for two and four-wheelers at Omaxe properties across India.

Shriram Transport Finance raises $250 million loan from DFC

Shriram Transport Finance Company Ltd (STFCL) has secured long-term funding of $250 million (~Rs 1,944 crore)  from the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). The external commercial borrowing is a fixed-rate 10-year loan. The funds raised from DFC will enable STFCL to on-lend for the purchase of new and used vehicles throughout India.

UltraTech Cement partners with Coolbrook to reduce CO2 emissions at plants

UltraTech Cement has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Finland-based Coolbrook to explore the possibility of reducing CO2 emissions from its cement manufacturing operations. The two entities will explore electrification of the cement kiln heating process. They aim to develop optimal electric process heating solutions for the cement manufacturing process replacing fossil fuels.

Reliance closes in on Boots acquisition, makes binding offer

The consortium of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and US buyout firm Apollo Global Management Inc. has moved closer to acquiring Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc’s international chemist and drugstore units. The bid for the Boots business is fully backed by committed financing. If completed, the deal will be RIL’s largest cross-border acquisition.

Coal India Ltd (CIL) has floated an international competitive bidding e-tender, seeking bids for importing 2.416 million tonnes (MTs) of coal. The coal being sourced on behalf of the state generating companies (gencos) and independent power plants (IPPs) is based on the indents (order) received from them for the period of July-September of FY23.

Equity mutual fund inflows rise 16% in May: AMFI

Net investments into equity and equity-linked schemes rose 16% over the previous month to Rs 18,529.4 crore in May. Multi caps witnessed the least investments among all categories, while large caps saw the most. The monthly contribution to systematic investment plans (SIPs) grew by Rs 423.33 crore in May. The data was released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).

Infosys Reports 12% YoY Rise in Net Profit in Q4 – Top Indian Market News

Infosys Q4 Results: Net profit rises 12% YoY to Rs 5,686 crore 

Infosys Ltd reported a 12% YoY rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 5,686 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4 FY22). Net profit fell 2.12% when compared to the previous quarter. Its revenue from operations rose 23% YoY (or 1.28% QoQ) to Rs 32,276 crore during the same period. The IT company secured new deals worth $2.3 billion in Q4, taking the total order book to $9.5 billion for FY22. Infosys’ board has declared a final dividend of Rs 16 per share.

Auto sales fell 6% in FY22 due to supply-side disruptions: SIAM

The automobile industry saw a 6% decline in sales in FY22 as supply-side disruptions persisted. The segment comprising passenger cars, utility vehicles, and vans sold 2.79 lakh units in March, a 3.93% YoY decline. However, sales rose 6.28% when compared to February. Total two-wheeler sales fell 13.31% over Feb and ~20.88% YoY to 11.84 lakh units in March. The data was released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Prestige Estates Projects Ltd registered the highest ever sales of Rs 10,382.2 crore in FY22, up 90% YoY. It also recorded the highest ever collections of Rs 7,466.4 crore, up 47% YoY. During the year, the Group launched 16.77 million sq. ft. of realty projects across geographies. Prestige has lined up launches over 15 million sq. ft. across Bengaluru, Mumbai, NCR, Hyderabad, and Chennai.

DGCA bars 90 SpiceJet pilots from flying 737 Max planes

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has barred 90 SpiceJet pilots from operating Boeing 737 Max aircraft after finding them not properly trained. The regulator will take strict action against those found responsible for the lapse. The pilots will have to undergo training again on the 737 Max simulator.

Blue Star doubles production capacity on inaugurating new unit in Wada

Blue Star has doubled its production capacity of deep freezers by opening its new manufacturing facility at Wada, Maharashtra. The new facility aims to cater to the production of the company’s commercial refrigeration products and solutions. It has the capacity to produce around 2 lakh deep freezers and 1 lakh storage water coolers per annum. The facility was built with a capital expenditure of Rs 130 crore.

Fino Payments Bank Ltd’s board has approved a strategic investment in New Delhi-based fintech startup Paysprint. The company will acquire a 12.19% stake in Paysprint by subscribing to its shares. The move will enable Fino to leverage Paysprint’s technology to offer API (application programming interface) plugins for the bank’s digital platform.

Tata Motors adds 160 service workshops to its network

Tata Motors Ltd has added 160 new service workshops for passenger vehicles, taking the total number of operational workshops across India to 705. The automaker now provides extensive service coverage across 485 cities. They have also launched a new mobile servicing option called EzServe. The platform allows customers to get basic service work and quick repairs done on their vehicles at their preferred location.

Man Infra secures order worth Rs 938 crore

Man Infraconstruction Ltd has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCTPL) for a contract worth Rs 937.89 crore. The contract is for supplying materials for the reclamation works being done under Phase-II at JNPT, Navi Mumbai. The order will be executed in a time frame of two years.

HCL Technologies Ltd has expanded its global partnership with Zurich-based Avaloq, a leading provider of digital banking solutions. The IT major will develop a world-class lifecycle management center for Avaloq clients. It will also invest in ongoing training and development for HCL teams working with Avaloq products.

In other news, HCL Tech is extending its strategic partnership with Microsoft to bring security capabilities to clients worldwide. HCL has joined the Microsoft Intelligent Security Association (MISA). It is an integrated ecosystem of independent software vendors and managed security service providers.

India’s manufacturing PMI falls to 55.5 in December  

India’s manufacturing activity expanded in December but at a slower pace than the previous month. The IHS Markit India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) stood at 55.5 in December, compared to 57.6 in November. Output remained in the growth territory amid a slower rise in sales and new orders. Business sentiment was dampened by concerns surrounding supply-chain disruptions, Covid-19, and inflationary pressures. PMI is a month-on-month calculation, and a value above 50 represents an expansion when compared to the previous month.

Auto sales data for December 2021: Highlights

Maruti Suzuki India posted a 10% month-on-month (MoM) increase in total sales to 1,53,149 units in December 2021. The shortage of electronic components continued to affect production during the month. Sales from its utility vehicle segment rose 10% MoM to 85,665 units. Exports stood at 22,280 units, an increase of 4.14% MoM. 

Tata Motors Ltd registered an 18.54% MoM increase in passenger vehicle sales to 35,299 units in December. The automaker’s commercial vehicle sales rose 5.9% MoM to 34,151 units. Overall domestic sales rose 14.17% MoM to 66,307 units. 

Two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp sold 3.94 lakh units in December, an increase of 13% MoM.    

TVS Motor Company Ltd posted an 8% MoM decline in total sales to 2.5 lakh units. Meanwhile, Escorts posted a 34% MoM fall in tractor sales to 4,695 units in December.

Reliance becomes promoter in Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy

Reliance New Energy Solar Ltd (RNESL) has become a promoter of Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd (SWREL) post payment of balance Rs 1,583 crore for acquisition of 25.9% equity. With this transaction, RNESL and other group firms together hold over 40% stake in SWREL. Last week, SWREL had approved the allotment of 2.93 crore equity shares for Rs 1,099 crore to RNESL.

Delhi High Court to hear Future Group plea to quash Amazon arbitration before Singapore tribunal

The Delhi High Court has agreed to hear Future Group’s petition seeking the termination of Amazon’s case before an arbitral tribunal in Singapore. The plea was mentioned by Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi before a Division Bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh. Rohatgi submitted that he had filed a petition on behalf of Future Coupons Ltd (FCPL) and that there was “immense urgency” in the matter. The move comes after the Competition Commission of India (CCI) recently suspended its clearance given to Amazon’s 2019 deal with Future.

NCC secures five orders worth Rs 1,898 crore in December

NCC Limited has received five new orders worth Rs 1,898 crore (exclusive of GST) from State government agencies in December 2021. Out of this, three orders of Rs 988 crore pertain to the building division, and the remaining two orders of Rs 910 crore pertain to the water division. Hyderabad-based NCC Ltd is a construction engineering company.

Fino Payments Bank Ltd has received approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to commence its international remittance business under the Money Transfer Service Scheme (MTSS). The lender will undertake inward cross-border money transfer activities in association with an overseas principal. The company also has plans to commence outward remittance services soon.

Olectra Greentech Ltd has received a Letter of Award (LoA) for 50 electric buses from one of the State Transport Authorities under FAME-II Scheme of the Government of India. The buses will be delivered over a period of 12 months. The maintenance of these buses will also be undertaken by Olectra Greentech during the contract period. The value of the contract is approximately Rs 125 crore.

Ajmera Realty & Infra India Ltd will invest Rs 110 crore to redevelop a housing society in Mumbai. The company has executed a development agreement to undertake redevelopment of Fairyland Co-operative Housing Society, located at Juhu in Mumbai. The investment will be funded through a mix of debt and equity. The total sales value is estimated at Rs 150 crore.

Dilip Buildcon receives LoA for Rs 2,683 crore order from Coal India subsidiary

Dilip Buildcon Limited (DBL) has received the Letter of Award (LoA) for an order worth Rs 2,683.02 crore from South Eastern Coalfield Ltd (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd. The order is for hiring of Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM) and allied equipment for Over Burden (OB) removal. The construct has been signed for a period of 1,795 days at Amadand OCP, Jamuna Kotma Area.
