The Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) directed market regulator SEBI to file its response by September 4 in an appeal filed by Punit Goenka, the promoter of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL). The tribunal will now hear the matter on September 8. Goenka aims to contest SEBI’s order that prevents him from taking up directorship or managerial roles in listed companies or their subsidiaries.

Titagarh Rail Systems secures ₹350-crore contract for Ahmedabad metro project

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRL) has received a letter of acceptance for a ₹350-crore contract from Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) for the design, manufacturing, supply, testing, commissioning and training of 30 standard gauge cars. The gauge cars are for the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase-II project. TRL is also involved in several other Metro rail projects in India.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is coordinating with IndiGo to carry out the technical evaluation of engine issues faced by the airline’s two aircraft. Two flights of IndiGo (one from Kolkata to Bengaluru and another from Madurai to Mumbai) suffered engine issues on Tuesday. IndiGo’s fleet is powered by Pratt & Whitney (P&W) engines, and several aircraft are on the ground.

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has approved Ramkrishna Forgings’ bid to acquire Amtek Group’s listed subsidiary JMT Auto through the corporate insolvency resolution process. Ramkrishna Forgings agreed to offer ₹125 crore to acquire JMT Auto against its admitted financial liabilities of over ₹165 crore. The resolution plan was not objected to by any of the stakeholders.

SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), SJVN’s arm, proposed the rate of ₹2.53 per unit for the supply of 1,000 MW and ₹2.75 per unit for another 200 MW.

SBI offers relief to loan borrowers in Manipur

The State Bank of India (SBI) has offered to extend relief on loans to its customers in Manipur, who have been affected by the ongoing unrest in the state. The relief package includes a moratorium of up to 12 months on equated monthly instalments (EMIs), interest payments, and other instalments. It will be available to borrowers whose accounts had not turned into non-performing assets (NPAs) as on May 3, 2023.

NCLT allows GE Power to withdraw insolvency petition as BHEL offers settlement

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) allowed GE Power to withdraw its insolvency petition against Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd with the liberty to revive if the operational debt is not settled. Counsels for GE Power Akshay Sapre, along with Abhijit Swarup and Aneesha Rastogi from The Guild, a law firm, informed the tribunal that BHEL had sent a letter to GE Power to settle ₹25 crore of debt amount owed to GE Power.

JSW Steel Ltd is looking to form a consortium to bid for a majority stake in Teck Resources Ltd.’s steelmaking coal business. The company’s offer potentially rivals an $8 billion offer from commodities giant Glencore Plc. Lupin Ltd has received correspondence from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) that it has now addressed the concerns raised in the warning letter for its facilities in Goa and Pithampur Unit-2, Indore. This comes after the satisfactory evaluation of the corrective actions taken by the company in response to the warning letter that was issued on November 6, 2017. On July 12, the USFDA inspected its Nagpur oral solid dosage facility from July 3-11. The inspection closed with the issuance of Form 483, with two observations.

India’s retail inflation surges to 7.44% in July

India’s retail inflation (measured by the Consumer Price Index) surged 7.44% on an annual basis in July, compared to 4.81% in June. The consumer food price index (CFPI) rose from 4.49% in June to 11.51% in July. The sharp rise can be attributed to a steeper-than-expected increase in vegetable prices (especially tomatoes) over the past month.

ITC Q1 Results: Net profit rises 17.5% YoY to ₹4,902 crore

ITC reported a 17.5% YoY rise in net profit to ₹4,902.74 crores for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24); beating street estimates. Its revenue from operations fell 7.23% at ₹16,995.4 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹5,083 crore in Q1, up 10% YoY. Revenue from ITC’s core cigarette business grew 13% to ₹7,465.27 crore.

In other news, ITC’s board has approved the scheme of arrangement for the demerger of its hotels business into a separate listed subsidiary. Shareholders of ITC will get 1 share in the demerged hotels business for every 10 shares held in the parent company.

Axis Asset Management (the mutual fund arm of Axis Bank) has launched a private credit alternative investment fund (AIF) and is aiming to raise nearly ₹1,250 crore from investors. SpiceJet Q1 Results: Net profit at ₹198 crore

SpiceJet Ltd reported a consolidated net profit of ₹197.64 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). The airline reported a loss of ₹783.72 crore in Q1 FY23. its revenue from operations fell 19% YoY to ₹2,371.53 crore during the same period. The company’s profit was on the back of a 36% Yoy decline in total expenses to ₹2,069.24 crore in Q1.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s domestic air passenger traffic volume rose 25% year-on-year (YoY) to 1.21 crore passengers in July. IndiGo carried 76.75 lakh passengers, securing a market share of 63.4% during July. SpiceJet flew 5.04 lakh passengers in July, with a market share of 4.2%.

Reliance Industries (RIL) reported an 11% YoY fall in consolidated net profit to ₹16,011 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). Its consolidated revenue also fell 5.3% YoY to ₹2.11 lakh crore during the same period. However, its EBITDA rose 0.25 % to ₹38,093 crore compared to Q1 FY 23. EBITDA stood at ₹37,997 crore in Q1 FY23. The board has recommended a dividend of ₹9 per equity share.

Union Bank to sell 8 NAP accounts worth Rs 3,000 cr to NARCL

Union Bank of India has identified eight troubled accounts worth ₹3,000 crore to be sold to the national bad bank NARCL this fiscal. The bank has more than doubled its net income at ₹3,236 crore in the June 2023 quarter on improved asset quality and recoveries. Union Bank had already sold three accounts worth ₹900 crore last fiscal to the national bad bank at a recovery of 33%.

Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has entered into loan agreements worth more than ₹2.37 lakh crore with 20 companies. These firms include Adani Group, Greenco, ReNew Power, Continuum, Avaada, JBM Auto, Rajasthan Renewable Energy and Megha Engineering & Infrastructure, among others. These agreements are part of the company’s plan to position itself as the focal funding agency for the energy transition.

PFC is looking to fund projects like offshore wind, pumped hydro storage, solar modules and cells, among others in the clean energy space.

May WPI inflation falls to -3.48%, lowest since November 2015

According to the Ministry of Commerce, India’s wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation fell from -0.92% in April to -3.48% in May. WPI is at its lowest level since November 2015, marking the second consecutive month of negative wholesale inflation in India. Food wholesale inflation declined to -1.59%, while inflation in the fuel and power category reached -9.17%. Additionally, inflation in manufactured products decreased from -2.42% to -2.97% in May.

Mindspace Business Parks REIT (Mindspace REIT) has raised Rs 550 crore through an issue of green bonds. Executive Committee of the manager (K Raheja Corp Investment Managers LLP) has approved the allotment of 55,000 green debt securities in the form of listed, rated, secured non-convertible debentures of Rs 1 lakh each by way of the private placement. RIL Q2 Results: Net profit flat at ₹13,656 crore

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) reported a 0.17% YoY (or 24% QoQ) decline in consolidated net profit to ₹13,656 crore for the quarter ended Sept (Q2 FY23). Its revenue from operations rose 33.7% YoY to ₹2.32 lakh crore during the same period. RIL’s revenues from the oil-to-chemicals (O2C) business increased by 33% to ₹1.41 lakh crore.

RBI raises repo rate to 4.9%

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has raised its key repo rate by 50 basis points (bps) to 4.90% to curb the rising inflation in our country. It is the second hike by the RBI in two months and is expected to hike borrowing costs for corporates and individuals. The government has entrusted RBI to ensure that retail inflation remains at 4%, with a margin of 2% on either side. 

Repo rate is the interest rate at which a central bank lends money to all the other banks in the country. A hike in repo rates makes bank loans costlier, leading to lower circulation of money in the economy.

L&T Finance explores exiting realty projects lending business

L&T Finance Ltd is exploring inorganic structures to exit the real estate projects lending business. It may also consider reducing its exposure in the segment by partnering with other financiers. The company is also looking to partner with dedicated funds to create a platform that will commit funds to infrastructure projects. This move will help L&T Finance eventually bring down its loan book in the segment.

Godrej Properties Q4 Results: Net profit at Rs 260 crore

Godrej Properties Ltd (GPL) reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 260.47 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4 FY22). It had posted a net loss of Rs 191.57 crore in the corresponding quarter last year (Q4 FY21). Its total income jumped 164.3% YoY to Rs 1,522.57 crore in Q4 FY22. GPL is likely to add at least ten new residential projects across India to its existing development portfolio in FY23.

Adani Wilmar acquires Kohinoor rice

Adani Wilmar Ltd (AWL) has strengthened its presence in the food segment with the acquisition of Kohinoor rice. AWL will get exclusive rights over the brand ‘Kohinoor’ basmati rice along with ‘Ready to Cook’, ‘Ready to Eat’ curries, and meals portfolio under the Kohinoor brand umbrella in India. The company is looking to cement its presence in the staples segment, which contributes ~11% to its overall revenue.

Adani Green gets shareholders’ nod for Rs 3,850 crore investment by Green Energy Investment Holding RSC

Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) has received shareholders’ approval for the issuance of over two crore shares worth ~Rs 3,850 crore on a preferential basis to Green Energy Investment Holding RSC Ltd (GEIH RSC). IHC Capital Holding LLC is the current principal shareholder of GEIH RSC. The deal is a part of UAE-based International Holding Company’s (IHC) $2 billion investment in three Adani Group companies.

Zydus Lifesciences gets USFDA approval for generic version of Bortezomib

Zydus Lifesciences Ltd has received the final approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) to market its generic version of Bortezomib injection. The drug is used to treat certain types of cancers like multiple myeloma and mantle cell lymphoma. As per IQVIA data, the injection had a market size of $1.172 billion in the US during the twelve months ended March 2022.

Tata Steel Ltd reported a 46.83% YoY (or 2% QoQ) increase in net profit to Rs 9,756.2 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4 FY22). Its revenue from operations rose 38.6% YoY to Rs 69,323.5 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at Rs 15,029 crore in Q4, up 6% YoY. The company’s board has announced a stock split in the ratio 10:1.
