Bullishness in Nifty After the Gap-Down! – Post-Market Analysis

NIFTY started the day at 19,351 with a gap-down of 43 points. The index initially consolidated and then started moving up— making higher lows till yesterday’s closing levels of 19,400. Then, it made a minor retracement and an even stronger up-move of 75 points after 3 PM. Nifty closed at 19,425, up by 30 points or 0.15%.

Nifty chart Nov 10 - post-market analysis | marketfeed

BANK NIFTY (BNF) started the day at 43,542 with a gap-down of 140 points. Right after opening, the index rose till yesterday’s closing levels and took rejection at 43,700 levels. Then, it fell a bit and later moved back up after 3 PM (crossing the day’s high). BNF closed at 43,829, up by 136 points or 0.31%.

All indices except Nifty Media (-1.23%), Nifty Auto (-0.42%), and Nifty IT (-0.26%) closed in the green.

Major Asian markets closed in the red. European markets are currently trading up to 1.3% in the green.

Today’s Moves

NTPC (+2.02%) was NIFTY50’s top gainer, following the positive momentum observed in power sector stocks.

Network18 Media (+7.37%) surged on the back of strong volumes.

Shares of Engineers India (6.54%) jumped after its Q2 profit beat analyst estimates.

Hero MotoCorp (-2.16%) was NIFTY50’s top loser. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth ₹24.95 crore of the company’s executive chairperson Pawan Kant Munjal as part of a money laundering investigation against him.

ZEEL (-5.29%) fell sharply after the company recorded a 5% YoY decline in consolidated net profit to ₹130 crore in Q2 amid pressure on ad revenue.

Markets Ahead

The festive Diwali spirit seems to be lifting the markets. Despite a gap-down, there was strong buying in Nifty and BNF today. Both indices kept rising, showing considerable strength. However, it’s important to note that major indices are currently at their respective resistance levels. They need to breach those levels for a continued up-move.

Nifty: The index is currently facing a significant resistance around 19,460 levels. If it successfully breaks out from there, we might see Nifty climb to 19,500 initially and potentially reach 19,560 levels later. Meanwhile, the index could take support at 19,400 levels (the earlier resistance now acting as support). If it falls below this point, the targets on the downside could be 19,350 and 19,300 levels.

On a daily time frame, Nifty is currently close to the breakdown levels and undergoing a re-test. An important Fibonacci retracement level of 50% is located around 19,520 levels. To confirm a bullish trend, the index needs to surpass this level.

Bank Nifty: The major resistance for the index is 43,900 levels. If it manages to break out, we could see the index reaching 44,000 first and 44,500 next. On the other hand, the immediate support to keep an eye on is around 43,700 levels (the previous resistance may now act as support). If the index falls below 43,800 (the previous swing), it might fall to 43,700 and 43,500 levels.

On a daily timeframe, BNF faces a crucial resistance point that aligns with both the breakdown levels and the 33% Fibonacci retracement levels. To confirm a change in trend, the index needs to cross the 44,000 mark.

Today’s Moves

Adani Enterprises (+1.8%) was NIFTY50’s top gainer.

Markets Ahead

Nifty and Bank Nifty were extremely volatile on expiry day, and there’s still selling pressure that can be seen in both indices.

Nifty: The important round level support now in Nifty would be 19,500 and the major resistance to look out for is 19,600 levels. A breakout from 19,600 can give us targets of 19,690 and 19,720 (gap-filling levels) and a breakdown from 19,500 could give us targets of 19,420 and 19,390.

Bank Nifty: The index is currently at the support zone of 44,400-500. The immediate resistance will be 44,700 levels. A breakdown of the support levels can give us targets of 44,280 and 44,000. A breakout can give us targets of 45,000 and 45,150 levels.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has retained the key policy repo rate at 6.5%. It has also maintained the gross domestic product (GDP) growth projection for FY24 at 6.5%.

According to an Economic Times report, the RBI’s decision to enforce an additional Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) of 10% of Net Demand and Time Liabilities (NDTL) on banks severely impacted market sentiment today.

Now, all eyes will be on US inflation figures. This data holds significant importance for the global market as it seeks insights into the potential direction of the US Fed’s policy.

What Happened Yesterday?

NIFTY started the day flat at 19,578. Yesterday’s low was broken immediately and there was consolidation near 19,470. But after noon, a crazy rally was seen even crossing the day-high. NIFTY closed at 19,632, up by 61 points or 0.32%.

BANK NIFTY started the day flat at 44,973 and fell. Banks also rallied up in the second half and the index moved back up 400 points. However, the day’s high was not broken. BANK NIFTY closed at 44,880, down by 83 points or 0.19%.

Even with the crazy moves, important levels were respected in the market.

What to Expect Today?

US markets closed in the red after high volatility. The European markets closed in green.

The Asian markets are trading mixed.

The U.S. Futures are trading in the green.

GIFT NIFTY is trading flat at 19,604.

All the factors combined indicate a flat opening in the market.

NIFTY has support at 19,617, 19,566, 19,530 and 19,438. We can expect resistances at 19,617, 19,658, and 19,720.

BANK NIFTY has support at 44,800, 44,520, 44,277 and 44,000. Resistances are at 44,900, 45,100, 45,229 and 45,472.

INDIA VIX is at 11.14.

U.S. markets had a highly volatile day again but closed in the red again. Futures are in the green, there is a higher chance for our markets to open flat.

NIFTY technicals indicate consolidation with a bearish bias. There are once again heavy call sellers in the market.

Bank Nifty put sellers had exited positions even with the afternoon rally. This gives some breathing space for the index on the lower side. However, there are 4 lakh call contracts at 45,000. If the 45,100 is crossed, I expect a good rally in the index as FIIs have returned as buyers.

NIFTY’s technical data is indicating bullishness, with a strong green candle yesterday. We will need to watch 19,650.

RBI Interest Rate Decision Today:

All eyes will be on the RBI Monetary Policy decision to be announced at 10 AM today by Shaktikanta Das. Expect some volatility around the time of the announcements.

2 factors will play out today: increased vegetable inflation and surplus liquidity in the banking system reaching a 14-month high(this leads to high inflation). But the expectation is that RBI will keep interest rate the same for now.

Just like we expected, Wednesday’s trading session was a dhamaka. Today, it would be best to trade with levels and your strategy with strict stop-losses, rather than trying to predict where the market will go.
