Adani Ports Q2 Results: Net profit rises 4% YoY to ₹1,748 crore

Adani Ports Ltd reported a 4% YoY rise in consolidated net profit to ₹1,748 crore for the quarter ended September 2023 (Q2 FY24). Its revenue from operations rose 28% YoY to ₹6,646 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹3,880 crore, up 19% YoY in Q2. The domestic cargo volumes of the company jumped 13% YoY to 98.12 million metric tonnes (MMT), while the total cargo volumes rose 17% YoY to 101.22 MMT.

Vedanta working with JPMorgan to advise on business overhaul

Vedanta Group is reportedly collaborating with JPMorgan Chase & Co. to assist with a restructuring plan unveiled in September. The move indicates progress in the conglomerate’s efforts to simplify its financial structure. Vedanta is also in discussions to secure a $1.25 billion private loan to address its refinancing requirements.

Apollo Hospitals will invest ₹3,435 crore in expanding its bed capacity. The private healthcare provider will be adding 2,300 beds across 8 locations to its network over the next three financial years. The capacity expansion will be met through internal accruals and debt financing.

Ashok Leyland Ltd reported a 220.7% YoY rise in net profit to ₹526 crore for the quarter ended September 2023 (Q2 FY24). Its revenue rose 19% YoY to ₹11,429 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹1,871 crore, up 83% YoY. The company’s overall sales rose 10% YoY to 49,846 units.

ICICI Bank receives RBI nod to make ICICI Securities a wholly owned subsidiary

ICICI Bank received approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for making ICICI Securities a wholly-owned subsidiary. The bank on June 26 had said that it would consider a proposal for delisting of its institutional and retail broking arm ICICI Securities. The delisting proposal was approved by the board. The acquisition is likely to be completed in the next 12-15 months after various regulatory approvals.

The Tata Group has signed a binding share purchase agreement with SMS InfoComm (Singapore) and Wistron Hong Kong Limited to acquire a 100% equity stake in Wistron Infocomm Manufacturing (India). The acquisition will enable Tata Group to officially join the Apple supply chain as an iPhone assembler.

Pidilite to enter lending business

Pidilite Industries is planning to enter the lending business, providing small-value retail loans. To facilitate this, the company will acquire an existing NBFC, Pargro Investments, from its promoter group. Over the next two years, the company expects to invest up to ₹100 crore in multiple rounds in the new business, through a mix of equity and debt.

Piramal Pharma announced that it has received an ‘Establishment Inspection Report’ (EIR) from the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for one of its manufacturing units located in Pennsylvania. The health regulator, while issuing Form 483, made two observations related to system improvement only. None of the observations were related to data integrity.

Tata Power Ltd reported a 7% YoY rise in consolidated net profit to ₹876 crore for the quarter ended September 2023 (Q2 FY24). Its revenue from operations rose 12% YoY to ₹15,738 crore during the same period; largely driven by higher revenue from core businesses of generation, transmission and distribution. EBITDA stood at ₹3,090 crore, up 76% YoY in Q2.

Lupin Ltd launched Rocuronium Bromide injection, an anaesthesia medicine, in the United States. The launch came after Lupin’s alliance partner Caplin Steriles received approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA). According to the IQVIA MAT August 2023 data, the injection had estimated annual sales of $54 million in the US.

Computer Age Management Services Ltd (CAMS) reported a 17.1% YoY rise in net profit to ₹84.51 crore for the quarter ended September (Q2 FY24). Its revenue from operations rose 13.5% YoY to ₹275.08 crore during the same period. The company’s board recommended a dividend of ₹10 per equity share. CAMS acts as a registrar and transfer agent for mutual funds.

Voltas to take ₹500 crore term loan for new plants

Voltas Ltd will take up to ₹500 crore in term loans to finance the manufacturing of new plants in Chennai and Waghodia (Gujarat). The board approved the proposal to take an unsecured rupee term loan of up to ₹500 crore from a bank. The board also approved dropping the proposed non-convertible debentures issue through private placement for raising to ₹500 crore.

Bata India reported a 38% YoY fall in net profit to ₹34 crore for the quarter ended September 2023 (Q2 FY24). Its revenue from operations fell 1.3% YoY to ₹819.1 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹181.6 crore, up 12.9% YoY. Bata India has opened 30 new stores in nearly 25 cities.

Pidilite Industries Ltd reported a 35.7% YoY rise in net profit to ₹458.5 crore for the quarter ended September (Q2 FY24). Its revenue from operations rose 2.2% YoY to ₹3,076 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹679.6 crore, up 35.9% YoY. The company intends to set up a lending business by acquiring Pargro Investments Pvt. for ₹10 crore.

US’ DFC to invest $553 million in Adani Group’s Sri Lanka port

US International Development Finance Corporation (IDFC) will fund a project partly owned by the Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ). US IDFC will invest $553 million in the Colombo port terminal project, a consortium of APSEZ, John Keells Holdings (JKH) and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.

DLF to buy residual stakes in entities owning 63 acres of land in Gurugram for ₹40 crore

DLF will acquire residual stakes in certain entities that own 63 acres of land parcels in and around Gurugram for around ₹40 crore. The real estate company acquired development rights for these land parcels in 2009-10. DLF’s board approved the acquisition of around 5.22% stake in Invecon Pvt Ltd and 4.48% and 3.24% stake in its affiliates namely Vikram Electric Equipment and Uni International, respectively.

Biocon Biologics Ltd has signed a definitive agreement with Eris Lifesciences to divest its Dermatology and Nephrology branded formulations business units in India. The total transaction value of the divestment is ₹366 crore. The divestiture is expected to close by the end of November 2023, subject to customary closing conditions.

The Mumbai bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has approved the merger scheme between Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) with Culver Max Entertainment (Sony). The tribunal has also dismissed all objections regarding the merger.  This is a key regulatory approval for the mega-merger, aimed at creating a $10-billion media giant.

RBI keeps repo rate unchanged at 6.5%

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) left the repo rate (key policy rate) unchanged at 6.5%. The central bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) also retained its withdrawal of accommodation stance to ensure that the retail inflation remains within the target of 4%. The RBI retained the GDP growth projection for the current financial year (FY24) at 6.5% and raised the inflation projection marginally to 5.4%

Grasim Industries reported an 18% YoY fall in consolidated net profit to ₹1,576 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). Its consolidated revenue for the quarter stood at ₹31,065 crore, up 10.7% YoY. The decline in net profit could be attributed to an over 14% YoY jump in its total expenses for Q1 at ₹27,923.38 crore.

SBI Card enables RuPay credit cards on UPI

SBI Card and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) announced the linking of SBI credit cards on the RuPay platform with UPI. The company’s customers will now be able to make UPI transactions through credit cards issued on RuPay. The facility can be availed of by registering the credit card with third-party UPI apps.

Samvardhana Motherson reported a four-fold rise in consolidated net profit to ₹601 crore for the June quarter (Q1 FY24). Its consolidated revenue from operations rose 27% YoY to ₹22,462 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹1,940 crore, up 69% YoY, driven by operating efficiency, and softening of material and energy prices.

Pidilite Industries reported a 31.5% YoY jump in net profit to ₹473.7 crore for Q1 FY24. Its consolidated revenue rose 5.6% YoY to ₹3,275.1 crore during the same period. EBITDA rose 33.5% YoY ₹706.8 crore from ₹529.5 crore in the same quarter last year. EBITDA margin also expanded by 450 basis points (bps) from 17.1%, YoY to 21.6%.

Godrej Cons to build manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu

Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL) announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government of Tamil Nadu. The MoU is for building a manufacturing facility near Chennai. The company will make an investment of ₹515 crore over the next five years. It will serve as a manufacturing hub for brands such as Cinthol, Godrej Expert Rich Crème, Godrej Selfie Shampoo Hair Colour, and Goodknight.

Hero MotoCorp reported a 32% YoY increase in net profit to ₹825 crore for Q1 FY24. Its consolidated revenue rose 4.5% YoY to ₹8,767.3 crore during the same period. EBITDA grew 28% YoY ₹1,206 crore in Q1. The company incurred a one-time cost of ₹160 crore towards the voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) offered to certain employees.

NHPC plans to build pumped hydro storage projects of 22,000 MW

NHPC Ltd is planning to develop around 20,000-22,000 MW of pumped hydro energy storage projects in the coming years. The capacities are being explored in Odisha, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Housing Development Finance Corp Ltd (HDFC) has announced the sale of 90% of its stake in its subsidiary HDFC Credila Financial Services Ltd. Baring PE and ChrysCapital will buy the stake for ₹9,060 crore. The transaction involves divesting approximately 90% of HDFC Credila’s issued and paid-up share capital, totalling around 13,29,49,207 equity shares. Following the deal, HDFC Credila will no longer be a subsidiary of HDFC.

According to a CNBC-TV18 report, Piramal Enterprises has attracted interest from two bidders for its distressed loan portfolio with an estimated value of Rs 2,600 crore. The first bidder is Phoenix ARC, backed by Kotak Mahindra Bank and Cerberus Capital. The second bidder is Ares SSG with ACRE. This transaction is significant in the distressed asset space and involves high-value real estate projects. The loans will be sourced from Piramal Capital’s housing book.

Adani Group looking for more lenders to refinance $3.8 billion loans

The Adani Group is currently in talks with at least five new international banks to refinance $3.8 billion of loans taken for the acquisition of ACC Limited and Ambuja Cement. Most of the existing lenders, including Standard Chartered, Barclays and Deutsche Bank, are expected to participate in the refinancing. In addition, the group is in discussions with two Taiwanese banks and a Malaysian bank to expand the consortium of lenders for syndicating the loan. The refinancing may involve extending the payment tenor by three years.

Abrdn sells 10.2% stake in HDFC AMC via block deal

UK-based asset management company Abrdn plc has sold its entire 10.2% stake in HDFC Asset Management Co Ltd for about ₹3,547 crore, or about $432 million. Abrdn, a part of HDFC AMC’s promoter group, had proposed to sell the stake in a range of ₹1,800 to ₹1,892.45, according to a term sheet reviewed by Reuters.

State Bank of India (SBI) may look to lower its stake in Yes Bank after a lock-in period ends on March 6. SBI, which initially acquired 49% of Yes Bank, now holds a 26.14% stake as of Dec. 31. The state-owned bank is still the largest single shareholder in the Yes Bank. SBI cannot reduce its holding below 26% before the completion of three years from the date of the infusion of capital, as per the reconstruction plan.

Power consumption up 9% to 118 BU in February

Power consumption in India rose 9% YoY to 117.84 billion units (BU) in February 2023. The peak power demand met (or the highest supply in a day) rose to 209.66 gigawatts (GW) in Feb. The peak power supply stood at 193.58 GW in February 2022 and 187.97 GW in February 2021. The robust growth of power consumption indicates sustained momentum of economic activities last month.

PVR-Inox draws up Rs 850-crore expansion plan

PVR-Inox is expected to spend ₹800-850 crore for adding new movie screens and retrofitting the existing ones. Nearly ₹700 crore will go towards the expansion of new screens and the rest for retrofitting screens. In the next two years, the merged entity plans to add 200 screens per year. In the current financial year (FY23) to date, the entity has launched 143 screens across 26 properties in 21 cities.

RVNL emerges lowest bidder for sleeper Vande Bharat trains

A consortium of Russia’s JSC Metrowagonmash and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) to manufacture, supply, and maintain 200 sleeper Vande Bharat trains. These newly-designed trains will allow the movement of new locomotives on longer routes. The consortium has bid to supply 16 sleeper car trains at a basic rate of ₹120 crore per rake.

Adani Ports sees 10% growth in cargo volumes in February

Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) handled approximately 26.5 million metric tonnes (MMT) of total cargo, recording a 10% YoY growth in Feb. During April-February, APSEZ clocked approx. 307 MMT of cargo volumes, up 8.5% YoY. Zydus Lifesciences receives final approval from USFDA for healing cream

Zydus Lifesciences Ltd has received final approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for Acyclovir Cream. It is used to treat cold sores on the face and lips. Cold sores are blisters caused by a virus called herpes simplex. The drug will be manufactured at the group’s topical manufacturing facility at Changodar, Ahmedabad. It will be launched in the US market shortly.

BPCL to invest Rs 10,000 crore in six new city gas licenses

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) will invest Rs 10,000 crore over the next five years to set up city gas distribution networks in cities for which it secured licenses in the latest bidding round of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). The company won licenses to retail CNG to automobiles and piped natural gas (PNG) for cooking purposes in the bid-out of six geographical areas.

Federal Bank Q3 Results: Net profit rises 29% YoY to Rs 522 crore

Federal Bank reported a 29% YoY increase in net profit to Rs 521.7 crore for the quarter ended December (Q3 FY22). Its net interest income (NII) rose 7.1% YoY to Rs 1,538.9 crore during the same period. Akasa Air plans to commence domestic operations by late May

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-backed airline Akasa Air is aiming to start flights in late May or early June after getting its first Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in April. The low-cost airline is looking to own and operate 18 planes in its fleet by the end of March 2023. Akasa Air will initially have services from metros to Tier II and III cities.

BSE issues clarification on circular regarding additional price surveillance measures

Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) has issued a clarification on its circular on additional price surveillance measures that had triggered a major sell-off in midcap and smallcap stocks over the past two days. BSE clarified that the add-on measures that sought to limit movement in stock prices beyond their price-band limit on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis is only limited to X, XT, Z, ZP, ZY, Y group shares exclusively listed on BSE. The new surveillance measure will only be applicable on shares worth Rs 20 or above and having a market capitalisation of less than Rs 1,000 crore.

Vedanta Q4 Results: Net profit rises 95% QoQ to Rs 6,432 crore

Vedanta Limited reported a 95% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) increase in net profit to Rs 6,432 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4). Its net sales rose 24% QoQ to Rs 28,206 crore during the same period. This revenue growth was aided by a rise in volumes of its aluminium, zinc, and iron ore businesses. Operating margins fell to 32%, compared with 34% in the preceding quarter (Q3 FY21). Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) increased by 17% to Rs 9,037 crore.

Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), in a joint venture (JV) with KEC International Ltd, has secured a contract worth Rs 1,147 crore from Chennai Metro Rail. The order includes the construction of a 7.96 km elevated viaduct and 9 elevated stations on Corridor 4 of Phase-II of the Chennai Metro. The scope of work involves civil, architectural, plumbing & drainage, and temporary services. HCC holds a 51% stake in the JV, while KEC International holds 49% stake.

Reliance Jio tops in 4G download speed, Vodafone in upload speed in April: TRAI

According to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio has topped the 4G speed chart in April 2021 with a data download rate of 20.1 megabits per second (Mbps). Vodafone was ahead of others in upload speed at 6.7 Mbps. Jio has almost three times higher download speed compared to Vodafone. The average speed is computed by TRAI based on the data it collects across India with the help of its MySpeed application on a real-time basis.

According to a release by index provider MSCI, Adani Enterprises, Adani Total Gas, and Adani Transmission have entered the MSCI India Domestic Index. SBI Cards and Payment Services and Apollo Hospital have also entered the leading index, which is being tracked widely by global investors. Zee Entertainment Enterprises has been deleted from the MSCI India index. All changes will be implemented as of May 27, 2021. According to Edelweiss Securities, India is expected to see a net inflow of $350 million from Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) following the adjustments made by MSCI in its global standard indices.

Eli Lilly signs licensing agreements with Torrent Pharma, Dr Reddy’s for Covid-19 drug

US-based drug firm Eli Lilly and Company has signed voluntary licensing agreements with Torrent Pharma, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, and MSN Laboratories to expand the availability of Covid-19 drug Baricitinib in India. The drug is used in combination with Remdesivir for the treatment of Covid-19 patients with severe symptoms. On Monday, Eli Lilly had issued voluntary licenses to Cipla, Lupin, and Sun Pharma to manufacture and sell Baricitinib. This will enable the Indian pharma companies to use their existing distribution systems to ensure that the essential drug is accessible across the country.

Bharti Airtel successfully demonstrates live 5G services in Hyderabad

Bharti Airtel Ltd has announced that it has become the first telecom service provider in the country to successfully ‘demonstrate and orchestrate’ live 5G service. The demonstration took place in the city of Hyderabad. The company used a spectrum block in the 1,800MHz band to operate both 5G and 4G simultaneously on its network. Bharti Airtel said that it will be able to roll out the services across several parts of the country as soon as the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) permits the commercial launch of the 5G and auctions spectrum in the mid-size bands (3,300-3,600MHz).

Airtel adds 44 lakh subscribers in November; Vodafone Idea loses 29 lakh: TRAI

Bharti Airtel added more subscribers than market leader Reliance Jio for the fourth straight month in November. According to data collected by telecom regulator TRAI, Airtel gained 43.7 lakh subscribers, while Jio added 19.4 lakh subscribers in November 2020. Vodafone Idea (Vi) lost 28.9 lakh subscribers during the same month. Vi’s market share shrunk to 25.10%, while Bharti Airtel’s expanded to 28.97%. At 35.34%, Reliance Jio remains India’s biggest telecom operator by market share.

RBL Bank reported a 110% YoY increase in net profit to Rs 147.1 crore for the quarter ended December (Q3). Its total revenue rose 6% YoY to Rs 1,488 crore during the same period. Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd (TPSSL) has received a letter of award (LoA) to build a 95 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic project for Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd (GSECL). The project’s order value is about Rs 460 crore. The commercial operation date for this project is set for April 2022. With this addition, the order pipeline of TPSSL stands at about 4.2-gigawatt peak (GWp) with a value of about Rs 12,500 crore.

Stove Kraft IPO subscribed 18 times on final day of bidding

The initial public offering (IPO) of Stove Kraft was subscribed 18 times on the final day of bidding (Jan 28). The IPO received bids for 10.59 crore equity shares against an offer size of 58.94 lakh equity shares. The portion set aside for qualified institutional buyers has seen a subscription of 8.02 times, while the reserved portion of non-institutional investors has been subscribed 32.72 times. The portion reserved for retail investors was subscribed 26.4 times.
