NSE scraps plan to shift Nifty Bank F&O expiry to Friday

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has canceled its plan to change the expiry of Nifty Bank derivative contracts from Thursday to Friday. The decision came after the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) shifted the expiry of Sensex and Bankex contracts to Friday. BSE expressed concerns that NSE’s move could impact the growth of Sensex/Bankex derivatives. In the interest of balanced market development and risk avoidance, BSE requested NSE to consider shifting the Bank Nifty expiry to a different day.

HDFC-HDFC Bank merger to be effective on July 1

HDFC is scheduled to merge with HDFC Bank on July 1, 2023. Both companies will hold separate board meetings on June 30, marking HDFC Ltd’s final board meeting. The stock delisting of HDFC will take effect from July 13. HDFC Bank will retain the branches, and the merger is expected to boost mortgage sales with an increase in applications. Employees under 60 will be retained without a salary cut as HDFC Bank requires their expertise in mortgages.

India’s current account deficit narrows to 0.2% of GDP in Q4: RBI

India’s current account deficit (CAD) in the January-March quarter of FY23 improved significantly to $1.3 billion, accounting for 0.2% of GDP. This positive outcome can be attributed to a reduced trade deficit and a notable increase in services exports. Compared to the previous quarter and the same period last year, the latest figures reflect a significant improvement in India’s balance of payments, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Kotak arm invests Rs 450 crore in automobile components maker Viney Corp

Kotak Mahindra Bank’s subsidiary Kotak Strategic Situations India Fund II has invested ₹450 crores in automobile components company Viney Corporation. The investment aims to support Aggarwal’s acquisition of a majority stake in VCPL and revamp the company’s capital structure for future expansion and fundraising opportunities.

HAL announces 1:2 stock split

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has received approval from its board to split the company’s equity shares in a 1:2 proportion. This means that each existing share will be divided into two shares. The split will result in the subdivision of one equity share of ₹10/- fully paid up into two equity shares of ₹5 each.

Tata Technologies IPO: SEBI approves the first public issue from Tatas in 20 years

Capital markets regulator SEBI has approved the IPO of Tata Technologies, marking the first public offering from the Tata group since TCS in 2004. Additionally, SBFC Finance and Gandhar Oil Refinery’s IPOs have also received approval. The shares of these three companies are planned to be listed on both the BSE and NSE. Tata Technologies is a subsidiary of Tata Motors.

SAT stays SEBI’s order debarring IIFL Securities from on boarding new clients

The Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) granted a stay on SEBI’s order, which barred IIFL Securities from acquiring new clients for 2 years. SEBI had imposed the ban last week, citing violations of code of conduct regulations. In response, IIFL Securities filed an appeal with the tribunal.

CCL Products to set up new plant in AP with Rs 400 cr investment

CCL Products (India) Ltd plans to establish a new manufacturing plant at Continental Coffee Park in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, with a ₹400 crore investment. Spanning 22 acres, the plant will have an annual capacity of 16,000 metric tonnes for spray-dried instant coffee production. The plant is scheduled to commence operations in the fourth quarter of this fiscal year, funded through internal accruals and a partial-term loan.

BPCL to shut half of Mumbai refinery for a month from Sept 21

Bharat Petroleum Corp intends to temporarily close down 50% of its crude processing capacity at the Mumbai refinery in western India from Sept. 21 for maintenance. The planned shutdown includes a 120,000 bpd crude unit, a fluid catalytic cracker, a continuous catalytic reformer, and a catalytic cracker. Additionally, a bitumen unit will be shut for 15 days starting from mid-August.

Adani Total Gas to build 1800 CNG stations in 7-10 years

Adani Total Gas Ltd (ATGL) plans to construct 1,800+ CNG stations in the next 7-10 years, as mentioned by Suresh P Manglani, CEO, of ATGL, in the FY23 annual report. ATGL is expanding nationwide and has a presence in 124 districts, including 19 additional areas through its joint venture with Indian Oil Adani Gas Private Limited (IOAGPL).

Wholesale inflation falls to over two-year low of 3.85% in Feb

India’s Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation fell to a 25-month low of 3.85% in February 2023. WPI stood at 4.73% in Jan. The government has attributed the decline in inflation rate to a fall in prices of crude petroleum & natural gas, food products, minerals, computers, electronic and optical products, chemicals and chemical products, electrical equipment & motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers.

Mahindra unit in Bangladesh winds up operations, ceases to exist

Mahindra & Mahindra has shut down its wholly-owned unit Mahindra Bangladesh Pvt Ltd (MBPL). MBPL convened the final extraordinary general meeting of its shareholders on March 14, 2023, and approved the final voluntary winding up. It had zero income from operations as on March 31, 2022. The net worth of MBPL stood at Rs 3.18 crore as of March 31, 2022.

Coal India ready to meet dry fuel demand from power sector

Amidst a rise in industrial demand for electricity, state-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) has geared up to meet the demand for dry fuel from the power sector. CIL is hoping to supply 156 million tonnes of coal to the power sector during the April-June quarter of FY24. This would be 25.6% of the enhanced annual dispatch target of 610 million tonnes (MT) slated for the sector in 2023-24.

L&T Finance invites bids for ₹880 crore Xrbia loans

L&T Finance is seeking buyers for a distressed real estate portfolio comprising loans given to the Pune-based Xrbia Group. The company has invited offers for a loan book of ₹880 crore given to five Xrbia Group companies. The five accounts comprise Xrbia Developers with a debt of ₹435 crore, Xrbia Chakan Developers with ₹164 crore, Xrbia Warai Developers with ₹156 crore, Xrbia Ambience Realty LLP with ₹107 crore, and Eiffel Lifespaces with ₹18 crore.

HPCL signs pact to manufacture Chevron’s lubricants

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) has entered into a long-term licensing agreement to manufacture, distribute and market lubricants of global supermajor Chevron in India. Jindal Stainless (JSL) is planning a sale of green bonds to repay existing debt of around ₹2,800 crore. The stainless steel producer has initiated discussions with consultants to arrive at sustainability-oriented targets that could make it eligible for availing cheaper financing through the green bond route. However, it has not mandated banks or started investor roadshows.

Glenmark Pharma receives USFDA approval for generic antibiotic drug

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd has received final approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) for Clindamycin Hydrochloride Capsules. The product will be distributed by its subsidiary, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Inc, in the US. According to IQVIA sales data for the 12 months ended Jan 2023, Cleocin Hydrochloride Capsules achieved annual sales of around $33.6 million.

Suzuki Motor increases stake in Maruti Suzuki via open market transactions

Japanese auto major Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) has increased its stake in Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) to 56.48% by purchasing shares from the open market. Suzuki purchased 3.45 lakh equity shares during March 10-13. Currently, MSIL has a cumulative production capacity of 15 lakh units per annum.

PNC Infratech bags new highway project worth Rs 1,260 crore from NHAI

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has declared PNC Infratech Ltd as the lowest bidder for a highway project worth Rs 1,260 crore. The project includes the construction of the 6-lane Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Highway from Pachmon village to Anarbansalea village under the Central govt’s Bharatmala Pariyojana project. The project is to be constructed in 24 months and operated for 15 years.

Tata Technologies Ltd has filed a Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with market regulator SEBI to launch an initial public offering (IPO). The IPO is purely an offer for sale by the promoter Tata Motors and two other existing shareholders. The offer for sale (OFS) is 9.57 crore equity shares, representing approx. 23.60% of its paid-up share capital.

Ajanta Pharma’s board has approved the buyback of 22.1 lakh equity shares of the face value of Rs 2 each through the tender offer route. Natco Pharma Ltd has launched additional strengths for its generic Lenalidomide capsules in the US market. The drug is used in the treatment of multiple myeloma (cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell). Automakers record best-ever dispatches in Feb: SIAM

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Indian automakers dispatched nearly 2.92 lakh passenger vehicles, up 11% YoY. This is the highest-ever dispatches for the month of Feb so far. The total two-wheeler wholesale dispatches rose 8% YoY to 11,29,661 units in Feb. Three-wheeler sales surged 86% YoY to 50,382 units.

India’s fuel demand hits at least 24-year high in Feb

India’s fuel demand hit its highest level in at least 24 years in February, according to govt data. Consumption of fuel rose more than 5% YoY to 4.82 million barrels per day last month. The strength highlights a combination of profitable refining from record Russian crude imports in February, total utilization for primary distillation across India and robust domestic consumption.

India’s industrial production rises 5.2% in January

India’s industrial production index (IIP) rose to 5.2% in January 2023, compared to 4.3% print in the previous month. This is mainly due to the good performance of the power, mining and manufacturing sectors. In January, growth in the mining sector stood at 8.8%, compared to 9.8% in December 2022. Manufacturing output stood at 3.7% (2.6% in Dec 2022) and electricity growth came in at 12.7% (compared to 10.4% in Dec).

India’s forex reserves increase, snapping four-week losing streak

India’s foreign exchange reserves rose for the first time in five weeks and stood at $562.40 billion as of the week ended March 3, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The reserves increased by $1.46 billion at the end of last week after falling by a total of $15.8 billion in the previous four weeks. It stood at $560.94 billion in the week to Feb 24.

Tata Power RE signs PPA with TPDDL for 510 MW hybrid plant

Tata Power Renewable Energy has signed an agreement with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDDL) to supply electricity from its 510 MW solar-wind hybrid project. It is one of the largest hybrid projects in India, with the capacity bifurcation of 170 MW solar & 340 MW wind power. The project will save an average of 1540 MUs (million units) of CO2 emissions annually for TPDDL.

Airtel’s ARPU to rise 3% post jump in base prepaid rates: CLSA

Bharti Airtel’s recent decision to increase base prepaid rates by 57% in 19 markets is estimated to immediately boost its average revenue per user (ARPU) by 3% to Rs 199 according to analyst & brokerage group CLSA. Airtel’s tariffs across plans are already 25-57% higher than Vi and Reliance Jio.
