India’s retail inflation cools to 6.83% in August

According to the National Statistics Office (NSO), India’s annual retail inflation (measured by the Consumer Price Index) eased to 6.83% in August. Inflation came down from a 15-month high of 7.44% in July. The fall was largely led by a decline in vegetable prices. Food inflation fell from 11.51% in July to 9.94% in August.

India’s industrial output grew 5.7% in July

According to data published by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, India’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) expanded at a rate of 5.7% in July 2023. The expansion was at a faster pace in July than a month ago. Mining output grew 10.7% YoY, while manufacturing output and electricity generation expanded at 4.6% and 8% YoY, respectively, in July.

Govt may impose addl tax to restrict sale of diesel vehicles

Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road, Transport & Highways (MoRTH) plans to propose to the Indian govt to consider imposing additional taxes on diesel vehicles. The additional tax is to restrict the sale of diesel vehicles unless automakers voluntarily move away from it. The minister made the statement while speaking at the 63rd Annual Convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

NTPC pays final dividend of ₹2,908.99 cr for 2022-23

NTPC announced the payment of ₹2,908.99 crore final dividend for 2022-23. This payment constitutes 30% of the paid-up equity share capital of NTPC. The total dividend disbursed for FY 2022-23 stands at ₹7,030.08 crore, being 41% of the profit after tax (PAT). This marks the 30th consecutive year in which the company has distributed dividends.

Tata Power Delhi Distribution has partnered with Utiltyx, the Indian subsidiary of a US-based cyber security and data analytics software company. The partnership aims to enhance the company’s preparedness against future threats and challenges related to cyber security. The association is aimed at augmenting Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) visibility, strengthening Tata Power-DDL’s capabilities to fight cyber threats.

Reliance Retail Ventures gets ₹2,000 crore from KKR

KKR is investing another ₹2,069.5 crore through an affiliate in Reliance Retail Ventures (RRVL). This follow-on investment will translate into an additional equity stake of 0.25% in RRVL. The additional acquisition will take KKR’s total stake in RRVL to 1.42%. The private equity firm acquired the stake at a valuation of ₹8.36 lakh crore.

Hindalco partners with Metra for extrusion tech

Hindalco Industries has signed a technology partnership agreement with Italy-based Metra to manufacture high-speed aluminium rail coaches. The partnership is aimed at sharing extrusion and fabrication technology for building high-speed aluminium rail coaches. Hindalco is the world’s largest aluminium rolling and recycling company.

SpiceJet pays Kal Airways ₹100Cr

SpiceJet paid Kal Airways and its promoter Kalanithi Maran ₹100 crore towards an arbitral award. The payment was made a day after the Delhi High Court ordered it to complete the payment by September 12. On August 24, the court had asked SpiceJet and Singh to pay ₹100 crore to Maran by September 10, failing which the court had said it might consider the attachment of their properties.

IndiGo plans to lease 22 Airbus A320 aircraft

IndiGo is looking to induct up to 22 aircraft from the secondary lease market as it faces the grounding of several Airbus A320 Neo aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney engines. Over 1,000 P&W engines will need to be inspected after the manufacturer found that contamination of powder metal defects could lead to the cracking of some engine components.

Coal India to invest ₹24,000 crore in green transportation

Coal India Ltd (CIL) is planning to invest ₹24,000 crore in green transportation in three phases. This investment is part of CIL’s plan to ensure the eco-friendly transfer of coal from its production point to handling plants. The phases will cover 61 First Mile Connectivity (FMC) projects, which will have a combined capacity of 763.5 million tonnes per annum. Under these green projects, coal will be loaded directly into rail wagons through mechanised piped conveyors with a rapid loading system.

Uno Minda to buy an additional 3.81% stake in European subsidiary

Uno Minda Ltd’s Board of Directors approved the acquisition of the remaining stake in Uno Minda Europe Gmbh. The acquisition will be at a consideration of 1.3 million euros (~₹11.58 crore) to make it a wholly-owned subsidiary. The stake will be purchased by SAM Global Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Uno Minda Ltd.

Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP will resign as the auditor for Adani Ports & SEZ in the next few days. The move comes after a mere year since their reappointment amid differences with the company management over the auditor’s position on certain transactions. The auditor is likely to resign and a formal announcement is expected within the next 3-4 days. The audit firm was reappointed as the statutory auditor just last year for five years, according to the company’s annual report of FY22.

HAL Q1 Results: Net profit rises 31% YoY to ₹814 crore

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) reported a 31% YoY rise in consolidated net profit to ₹814 crores for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). On a sequential basis, the net profit fell 71% from ₹2,831 crore in the March quarter. Its revenue from operations for the quarter stood at ₹3,915 crore, up 8% YoY. EBITDA also rose 6% YoY to ₹880 crore in Q1.

India’s industrial output rises 3.7% in June

India’s industrial production dipped to 3.7% in June, down from 5.3% in May 2023. Factory output measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) had risen to 12.6% in June 2022. The mining sector output saw a growth of 7.6% in June this year, down from 7.8% seen a year ago. The manufacturing sector output grew by 3.1% in June this year after growing 12.9% in the same month a year ago.

Nykaa Q1 Results: Net profit rises 8% YoY to ₹5.4 crore

Nykaa reported an 8% YoY rise in consolidated net profit to ₹5.4 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). Its revenue from operations for the quarter stood at ₹1,422 crore, up 24% YoY. EBITDA rose 60% YoY to ₹73.5 crore in Q1. Physical retail space increased 43% YoY with 152 stores at the end of the June quarter. The company’s owned brands’ gross merchandise value (GMV) grew close to 40% YoY.

CCI clears Kotak-Biocon Biologics deal

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has cleared Kotak Special Situations Fund’s (KSSF) proposed investment in Biocon Biologics Ltd under the green channel route. In February, KSSF (an arm of Kotak Mahindra Bank) announced a ₹1,070 crore investment in Biocon to help a subsidiary of the Bengaluru-based company in an acquisition. The investment will help Biocon Biologics’ acquisition of the biosimilars business of its partner Viatris. KSSF is a SEBI-registered alternative investment fund (AIF).

Apollo Hospitals Q1 Results: Net profit falls 47% YoY to ₹173 crore

Apollo Hospitals reported a 47% YoY rise in net profit to ₹173 crore for the June quarter (Q1 FY24). However, its revenue from operations rose 16% YoY to ₹4,418 crore during the same period. Consolidated EBITDA stood at ₹509, up 4% YoY. Revenue from existing hospitals grew 10%, while that from the new hospitals rose 23% during the reporting period.

India’s forex reserves fall $2.41 billion to $601.5 billion as on Aug 4

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), India’s foreign exchange reserves fell by $2.41 billion to $601.453 billion for the week ending August 4. Foreign currency assets (FCAs) dropped by $1.94 billion to $533.4 billion. Gold reserves also dipped by $224 million to $44.7 billion, while SDRs dropped by $171 million to $18.27 billion. The reserve position in the IMF decreased by $86 million to $5.1 billion.

Godrej Industries Q1 Results: Net profit falls 13% YoY to ₹178 crore

Godrej Industries reported a 13% YoY fall in consolidated net profit to ₹178 crore for Q1 FY24. Its total revenue rose 15% YoY to ₹4,893 crore during the same period. EBITDA rose 28% YoY. The sales growth came on the back of 10% YoY volume growth in constant currency. Its real estate business in Q1 FY24 witnessed a total booking value of ₹2,254 crore with 2.25 million square feet of area sold during the quarter.

NCLAT stays admission of Coffee Day Enterprises for insolvency

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) of the bankruptcy court stayed the admission of Coffee Day Enterprises Ltd (CDEL). The stay was after it was challenged by the promoter, Malavika Hedge. She claimed that the default occurred during the “calm period” amid the global pandemic in March 2020 when lenders were barred from approaching the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for default on loans. On July 20, 2023, the Bangalore NCLT admitted CDEL for corporate insolvency on a petition filed by IndusInd Bank.

Info Edge Q1 Results: Net profit rises 35% YOY to ₹200 crore

Info Edge reported a 35% YoY increase in net profit to ₹200 crore for Q1 FY24. Its revenue from operations rose 15% YoY to ₹584 crore during the same period. Sequentially, the net profit rose nearly 12%, and the revenue increased by 4%. Tax outgo for the quarter was higher at ₹67 crore, compared to ₹46 crore a year ago.

Retail inflation eases to 5.66% in March

Retail inflation in India eased to a 16-month low of 5.66% in March 2023 from 6.75% in March 2022 as food inflation moderated on account of falling vegetable prices. The consumer food price index (CFPI) eased to 4.79%, down from 5.95% in February 2023 and 7.68% in March 2022. Rural inflation stood at 5.51%, while urban inflation stood at 5.89%. Retail inflation in India fell marginally but remained above RBI’s 6% upper tolerance band for the second straight month in February 2023.

IIP data: India’s industrial output rises 5.6% in February

India’s industrial output, as measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) rose 5.6% year-on-year (YoY) in Feb 2023. For the 11-month period from April 2022 to February 2023, industrial output registered a growth of 5.5%. The January IIP growth was revised to 5.2%.

TCS Q4 Results: Net profit rises 15% YoY to Rs 11,392 crore 

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) reported a 16.9% YoY increase in revenue at Rs 59,162 crore while profit rose 14.76% YoY to Rs 11,392 crore in Q4 FY22. Both revenue and profit figures were below Street estimates. The order book for the quarter stood at $10 billion. The IT company’s board has announced a final dividend of Rs 24 per share.

HDFC Bank signs agreement with Export-Import Bank of Korea for $300M credit line

HDFC Bank has signed a “Master Inter Bank Credit Agreement” with the Export-Import Bank of Korea for a $300 million line of credit. The pact was signed by the two entities at GIFT City in Gujarat. This agreement will help HDFC Bank raise foreign currency funds that it would extend to Korea-related businesses.

Karnataka Bank has been authorised to collect direct and indirect taxes on behalf of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). This authorisation is provided by the Reserve Bank of India. The RBI gave this authorisation on the recommendation from the Controller General of Accounts (CGA).

Canara Bank and NPCI Bharat BillPay Ltd (NBBL) have announced the launch of cross-border inward bill payment services for Indians based in Oman. NRIs can now leverage the robust platform offered by the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) to make bill payments on behalf of their families through the Musandam Exchange. Canara Bank has become the first Indian public sector bank to offer inbound cross-border bill payments through BBPS.

According to an ET report, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has initiated a process that could see the group unlock value in the backend warehousing and related logistics assets of its retail business through an infrastructure investment trust (InvIT). Reliance Retail Ltd has already started laying the groundwork for the proposed InvIT of its warehousing assets. It registered a trust and Intelligent Supply Chain Infrastructure Trust with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) at the end of February.

Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaboration for Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) technology-based Nuclear Power Plants. A pressurized heavy-water reactor (PHWR) is a nuclear reactor that uses heavy water (deuterium oxide D2O) as its coolant and neutron moderator.

Sula Vineyards Ltd said sales volume from its own brands crossed 1 million cases in FY23. Sales volumes in elite & premium wines went past the 5 lakh cases mark for the first time. On a provisional basis, Sula Vineyards said its net revenue for Q4 stood at Rs 104.3 crore from its own brands. For the financial year 2022-23 (FY23), net revenue from own brands stood at Rs 482.5 crore and Rs 45 crore from wine tourism.

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Indian automakers dispatched nearly 2.92 lakh passenger vehicles, up 11% YoY. This is the highest-ever dispatches for the month of Feb so far. The total two-wheeler wholesale dispatches rose 8% YoY to 11,29,661 units in Feb. Three-wheeler sales surged 86% YoY to 50,382 units.

India’s fuel demand hit its highest level in at least 24 years in February, according to govt data. Consumption of fuel rose more than 5% YoY to 4.82 million barrels per day last month. India’s industrial production rises 5.2% in January

India’s industrial production index (IIP) rose to 5.2% in January 2023, compared to 4.3% print in the previous month. This is mainly due to the good performance of the power, mining and manufacturing sectors. In January, growth in the mining sector stood at 8.8%, compared to 9.8% in December 2022. Manufacturing output stood at 3.7% (2.6% in Dec 2022) and electricity growth came in at 12.7% (compared to 10.4% in Dec).

India’s forex reserves increase, snapping four-week losing streak

India’s foreign exchange reserves rose for the first time in five weeks and stood at $562.40 billion as of the week ended March 3, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The reserves increased by $1.46 billion at the end of last week after falling by a total of $15.8 billion in the previous four weeks. It stood at $560.94 billion in the week to Feb 24.

Tata Power RE signs PPA with TPDDL for 510 MW hybrid plant

Tata Power Renewable Energy has signed an agreement with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDDL) to supply electricity from its 510 MW solar-wind hybrid project. It is one of the largest hybrid projects in India, with the capacity bifurcation of 170 MW solar & 340 MW wind power. The project will save an average of 1540 MUs (million units) of CO2 emissions annually for TPDDL.

India’s index of industrial production (IIP) grew 7.1% YoY to 135.1 in April 2022, compared to a growth of 1.9% in March. The mining sector rose by 7.8% year-on-year (YoY) to 116.0 in April, the manufacturing sector witnessed a growth of 6.3% to 132.5, and the electricity sector climbed 11.8% to 194.5.

Coal India Ltd has issued two tenders to import 6 million tonnes (MT) of coal in the next 12 months to meet surging power demand in India. This follows another tender issued on Thursday to import 2.42 MT of the dry fuel for delivery in July-September. These two medium-term import tenders of 3 MT each of coal have the option of increasing the bid quantity by 100% to 12 MT.

Total passenger vehicle sales rise 185% YoY in May: SIAM

According to newly released data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), total passenger vehicle (PVs) sales in May 2022 rose 185% YoY to 2,51,052 units. Three-wheeler sales jumped multifold to 28,542 units in May 2022, compared to 1,262 units in May 2021. Two-wheeler sales rose over 253% YoY to 12,53,187 units.

Indian crude oil basket hits 10-year high

The basket of crude oil that India buys has hit a 10-year high of $121 per barrel, but retail selling prices of petrol and diesel continue to remain unchanged. The Indian basket on June 9 touched $121.28, matching levels seen in February/March 2012. International oil prices held near a 13-week high on Thursday, supported by robust demand from key buyers like the US.

Retail Inflation Rises to 4.48% in October – Top Indian Market News

Retail inflation rises marginally to 4.48% in October

India’s retail inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), rose marginally to 4.48% in October from 4.35% in September. This is the fourth successive month that the CPI data has come below the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) upper margin of 6%. Food inflation has increased slightly to 0.85% in October from 0.68% in September.

Meanwhile, India’s factory output, measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), witnessed a 3.1% year-on-year (YoY) growth in September. The mining sector saw a growth of 8.6% YoY to 95.1 in September, while the manufacturing sector saw a rise of 2.7% YoY to 129.9.

ONGC Q2 Results: Net profit jumps 565% YoY to Rs 18,347 crore 

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Ltd reported a 565% YoY jump in net profit to Rs 18,347 crore for the quarter ended September (Q2 FY22). Its revenue from operations rose 44% YoY to Rs 24,353.6 crore during the same period. The operating margin expanded to 48.17% in Q2 FY22 compared to 37.78% in Q2 FY21. ONGC’s board has declared an interim dividend of Rs 5.5 per share.

KEC International wins orders worth Rs 1,415 crore

KEC International Ltd has secured new orders worth Rs 1,415 crore in the Civil and Oil & Gas Pipeline businesses in India. The company has received an order from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) for the construction of elevated viaduct along with 11 stations. It has received a civil infra works order from a defence entity. KEC International has also secured an order from Indian Oil Corp for the laying of oil and gas pipelines.

Vodafone Idea Q2 Results: Net loss narrows to Rs 7,132 crore

Vodafone Idea (Vi) reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 7,132.3 crore for the quarter ended September (Q2 FY22). It had posted a net loss of Rs 7,319 crore in the previous quarter. Its revenue from operations rose 3% QoQ to Rs 9,406.4 crore during the same period. Vi’s operating profit rose 4.2% QoQ to Rs 3,862.9 crore. The average revenue per user (ARPU) stood at Rs 109 in Q2, an increase of 4.8% QoQ.

Grasim Industries Q2 Results: Net profit jumps 180% YoY to Rs 979 crore

Grasim Industries Ltd reported a 180% YoY jump in net profit to Rs 979.1 crore for the quarter ended September (Q2 FY22). Its revenue from operations rose 67% YoY to Rs 4,933 crore during the same period. The company’s operating profit increased 87% YoY to Rs 1,504 crore. Grasim’s chemical business posted a 44.5% YoY growth in total sales to Rs 1,627 crore in Q2.

Ramkrishna Forgings partners with ePropelled to manufacture eDTS motor technology

Ramkrishna Forgings has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ePropelled (USA), a technology company that offers leading-edge electric propulsion systems. The two companies will develop eAxle products based on ePropelled’s patented Dynamic Torque Switching™ (eDTS) technology. The solution increases power efficiency by at least 15%, allowing manufacturers to reduce the size and cost of their battery packs.

Coal India Q2 Results: Net profit falls marginally to Rs 2,933 crore

Coal India Ltd reported a 0.6% YoY decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 2,933 crore for the quarter ended September (Q2 FY22). Net profit fell 7.5% compared to the previous quarter. Its revenue from operations rose 10% YoY to Rs 23,291 crore during the same period. The raw coal production improved to 125.83 million tonnes (MT) in Q2 FY22, compared to 114.98 MT in Q2 FY21.

Airtel Payments Bank to double business correspondent network to 1 million a year

According to a report from Economic Times, Airtel Payments Bank plans to double its countrywide business correspondents (BCs) network to 1 million in the next 12 months. It also aims to drive monetisation through a combination of transactions and interest-based income, besides boosting revenues from cash management services in the business-to-business (B2B) space. APB is looking to gain the necessary reach to cater to the remittances market and the Aadhar-enabled payment services business to serve millions of potential customers.

Hindalco Q2 Results: Net profit jumps 783% YoY to Rs 3,417 crore

Hindalco Industries Ltd reported a 783% YoY jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 3,417 crore for the quarter ended September (Q2 FY22). Net profit increased 23% compared to the previous quarter. Its revenue from operations rose 52.6% YoY to Rs 47,665 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at Rs 8,048 crore in Q2, a growth of 56% YoY (or 19% QoQ). Hindalco said its Q2 performance was largely driven by a strategic product mix, higher volumes, and stability in operations.

SJVN signs pact with Solarworld to develop 75 MW solar power project in UP

SJVN Limited has signed an agreement with Noida-based Solarworld Energy Solutions to develop a 75 megawatt (MW) solar power project at Parasan Solar Park in Uttar Pradesh. The total cost of the project is Rs 313.59 crore. The project will generate 168.34 million units (MU) of energy annually with a capacity utilisation factor (CUF) of 25.06%.

Motherson Sumi Q2 Results: Net profit falls 36% YoY to Rs 217 crore

Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd (MSSL) reported a 35.8% YoY decline in net profit to Rs 216.96 crore for the quarter ended September (Q2 FY22). Its revenue from operations fell 5.9% YoY to Rs 14,076.39 crore during the same period. Total expenses fell by 3% YoY to Rs 14,001.29 crore in the second quarter.

SAIL Q4 Results: Net profit rises 31% YoY to Rs 3,470 crore

Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) reported a 31% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 3,469.88 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4). Net profit has jumped 136.34% when compared to the previous quarter. Its total income rose 41.98% YoY to Rs 23,533.19 crore during the same period. The company’s total output rose 6% YoY to 4.56 million tonnes (MT) in Q4. Net profit for the financial year 2020-21 (FY21) increased by 95.6% YoY to Rs 4,148.13 crore. SAIL’s board has declared a final dividend of Rs 1.80 per share.

Industrial output falls to seven-month low in April

India’s industrial output fell to the lowest level in seven months in April due to the resurgence of Covid-19 cases. The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) fell 13% over the previous month to 126.6 in April 2021. The index for manufacturing output contracted by 12.6% over March to 125.1. The mining output index contracted 22.1% month-on-month (MoM) to 108 in April. The index for electricity generation stood at 174 in April, compared to 180 in March. The data was released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).

DLF Q4 Results: Net profit at Rs 481 crore

DLF Limited reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 480.94 crore for the quarter ended March 2021 (Q4 FY21). It had posted a net loss of Rs 1,857.76 crore in the corresponding quarter last year (Q4 FY20). The real estate developer’s total income rose 1.75% to Rs 1,906.59 crore in Q4 FY21. Net profit for the financial year ended March 31, 2021 (FY21) stood at Rs 1,093.61 crore. This is compared to a net loss of Rs 583.19 crore in FY20. DLF has appointed two of its executives, Ashok Tyagi and Devinder Singh, as Chief Executive Officers (CEOs).

Ashoka Buildcon emerges lowest bidder for road project in Punjab

Ashoka Buildcon Ltd has been declared the lowest (L-1) bidder for a road project in Punjab by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The project consists of six-laning of IT City Chowk to Kurali Chandigarh Road, the design length of which is 31.23 km, in Punjab. The quoted bid price for the project is Rs 726 crore. The road project comes under the Indian government’s Bharatmala Pariyojana— Package II.

Heranba Industries Ltd reported a 64.51% YoY increase in net profit to Rs 43.20 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4). Net profit has declined by 3.42% when compared to the previous quarter. Its revenue from operations rose 25.34% YoY to Rs 267.83 crore during the same period. Net profit for the financial year ended March 31, 2021 (FY21) rose 57.9% YoY to Rs 154.22 crore. The chemical manufacturing company’s board has recommended a final dividend of Rs 0.70 per share.

Ipca Laboratories Ltd has acquired an additional 13.09% stake in Trophic Wellness Pvt Ltd (TWPL) for a cash consideration of Rs 21.20 crore. The pharma company currently holds a 52.35% stake in TWPL. With this acquisition, Trophic Wellness has become a subsidiary of Ipca Laboratories. TWPL is a nutritional and wellness products company that offers a wide variety of dietary supplements of global standards.

BHEL Q4 Results: Net loss at Rs 1,035 crore

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 1,034.82 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4 FY21). It had posted a net loss of Rs 1,532.67 crore in the corresponding quarter last year (Q4 FY20). Its total income rose 40.23% YoY to Rs 7,245.16 crore in Q4 FY21. BHEL’s power vertical posted a 51% YoY growth in revenues to Rs 4,789 crore. Net loss for the financial year 2020-21 (FY21) stood at Rs 2,697.11 crore. This is compared to a net loss of Rs 1,466.01 crore in FY20.

Zee Entertainment to launch OTT platform ZEE5 in the US on June 22

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) will launch its video streaming service, ZEE5, in the United States on June 22. The over-the-top (OTT) platform is currently present in international territories such as the United Kingdom and the Middle East. The ZEE5 annual pack (priced at $84) will be available across devices at a limited launch offer price of $49.99. ZEE5 will provide 130,000 hours of content across 18 languages. Deccan Cements Ltd reported a net profit of Rs 22.08 crore for the quarter ended March 2021 (Q4 FY21). It had posted a net loss of Rs 2.96 crore in the corresponding quarter last year (Q4 FY20). The company’s revenue from operations rose 72.83% YoY to Rs 213.83 crore in Q4 FY21. Net profit for the full financial year 2020-21 (FY21) jumped 103.27% YoY to Rs 115.13 crore. Cochin Shipyard Ltd reported a 71.76% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 236.21 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4). Net profit has increased by 5.53% when compared to the previous quarter. Its total income rose 33.35% YoY (or 50.41% QoQ) to Rs 1,148.24 crore during the same period. Net profit for the financial year ended March 31, 2021 (FY21) declined by 3.7% YoY to Rs 608.66 crore. Cochin Shipyard’s board has recommended a final dividend of Rs 2.50 per share.

The Government has successfully divested its 20% stake in the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), through an offer for sale (OFS). The Centre had set the floor price of the OFS at Rs 1,367. The IRCTC stated that the retail portion of the OFS saw a 228% demand for the shares on offer. Following the OFS, the government’s stake in IRCTC will drop to 67.4%.

India’s industrial production grows 3.6% in October

India’s industrial output, as per the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), grew by 3.63% YoY in October. The IIP had shrunk by 6.6% in October 2019. The data was released by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The rise in IIP data during October is primarily on account of the electricity and manufacturing sectors. The country’s industrial production turned positive in September, after six months of negative growth.

Passenger vehicle sales rise for the fourth straight month

The domestic wholesales of passenger vehicles increased by 4.85% YoY to 2.64 lakh units in November. Car sales declined by 2.77% YoY to 1.49 lakh units, while sales of utility vehicles were up by 17.16% YoY to 1.03 lakh units. The data was compiled by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The industry body stated that the rise in sales was primarily on account of the festive season.

AstraZeneca to test combination of its Covid-19 vaccine with Sputnik V

AstraZeneca has initiated a program to assess Covid-19 vaccine combinations. The British pharma company will co-operate with Russian vaccine developers to test the combinations of its experimental Covid-19 vaccine with Russia’s Sputnik V shot. The program will be aimed at boosting the efficacy of AstraZeneca’s vaccine. The trials will start by the end of the year.

Family-owned TVS Group changes ownership model

TVS Group has decided to go for restructuring, by giving each family group complete ownership of businesses they currently manage. The group’s holding company has also been scrapped. The TVS brand will be allotted to each family group for use in their lines of business on a perpetual, royalty-free basis. The TVS group, consisting of over 50 companies, has a claimed turnover of $6.5 billion (Rs 47,949 crore).

Hatsun Agro Product’s board approves allotment of 5.38 crore bonus shares

The Board of Hatsun Agro Product Ltd has approved the allotment of 5.38 crore bonus equity shares of ₹1 each. The bonus shares will be issued to members holding equity shares as of 10 December 2020. The ratio for allotment of bonus shares has been set at 1:3. This means that one bonus share will be issued for every 3 fully paid-up equity shares held by a shareholder. The bonus shares will be credited/dispatched on or before 17 December 2020.

Blackstone to acquire Piramal Glass for $1 billion: Report

According to a report from CNBC-TV18, Blackstone has signed a deal to acquire Piramal Glass for $1 billion (~Rs 7,376 crore). The private equity major will make an upfront payment of $850 million and take over the ownership and management of  Piramal Glass. The remaining $150 million will be paid after Piramal Glass achieves specific business milestones. Piramal Glass Ltd is a manufacturer of specialised glass packaging solutions for cosmetics, perfumery, speciality food, beverages, and pharma industries.

Indian Hume Pipe Company Ltd has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for providing water supply schemes in 550 villages of Kanpur Division in Uttar Pradesh. The value of the order has been estimated at Rs 550 crore. The project will be completed in 21 months from the date of signing the final agreements.

Alambic Pharma gets USFDA nod for bipolar disorder treatment drug

Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration for its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for Asenapine Sublingual tablets. The tablets are indicated for the treatment of bipolar disorder. The pharma company stated that the tablets have an estimated market size of $217 million (~Rs 1,600 crore).
