Advent International acquires significant stake in Suven Pharma

Global private equity investor Advent International has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a 50.1% stake in Suven Pharmaceuticals Ltd from the Jasti family (promoters) for ₹6,313 crore. Advent will also launch an open offer to acquire an additional 26% of the pharma company. The total deal size would add up to ₹9,589 crore. After the acquisition, Advent intends to explore the merger of its portfolio company Cohance Lifesciences with Suven Pharma.

Central Bank of India to raise up to ₹1,500 crore in FY23

Central Bank of India’s board has approved a proposal to raise up to ₹1,500 crore this financial year (FY23) by issuing Basel III compliant bonds. The base issue size is ₹500 crore with a greenshoe option of up to ₹1,000 crore. Under the Basel-III capital regulations, banks globally need to improve and strengthen their capital planning processes.

Electronics industry push for tax rationalisation in Union Budget 2023

The Indian electronics industry wants the government to rationalise tariffs and remove small tariffs of 2.75% on parts and components of mobile phones, sub-assemblies, and mechanics. They want the Centre to reduce Goods & Services Tax (GST) from 18% to 12%. India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) also wants the 20% basic customs duty on high-end phones to be pegged at ₹4,000 per device. This measure could limit the smuggling of high-end phones, which ICEA said will add ₹1,000 crore to the GST collection.

Agrochemical players likely to see 15-17% growth this fiscal: CRISIL

According to a report from CRISIL Ratings, agrochemical players will grow at 15-17% in FY23, primarily driven by continued strong exports and stable domestic demand. Major agrochemical firms registered a stellar 23% growth in FY22. Their revenue could further grow by 10-12% next financial year as India continues to benefit from the China+1 strategy of global players.

Alembic Pharma gets USFDA approval for Fulvestrant injection

Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd has received final approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) for its generic Fulvestrant injection. The drug is used in the treatment of breast cancer. As per IQVIA data, Fulvestrant injection had an estimated market size of $71 million for the 12 months ended September 2022.

Godrej Properties acquires 62-acre land in Kurukshetra

Godrej Properties Ltd (GPL) has acquired nearly 62 acres of land in Kurukshetra, Haryana, to develop 1.4 million sq. ft. of plotted residential development. Kurukshetra is a self-sufficient city with good infrastructure consisting of schools, colleges, and hospitals. It also has significant historical and religious importance. GPL has been acquiring land in the National Capital Region (NCR) and peripheral areas to expand its presence.

Noida authority directs DLF to pay ₹235 crore for Mall of India land

Noida authority has issued a notice to realty developer DLF, asking it to pay ₹235 crore within 15 days for the dispute related to the land of Mall of India (the biggest mall in the country). The move has come after the Supreme Court ordered the Noida authority to pay ₹295 crore to Veerana Reddy. The authority acquired the land from Veerana Reddy in 2005 and later auctioned it to DLF, who developed the mall there.

Jet Airways pilots, cabin crew exit amid relaunch uncertainty

According to a CNBV-TV18 report, many standby pilots and cabin crew of Jet Airways have exited amid relaunch uncertainty. The report further states that the vice president of in-flight service has been sent on leave, while the salaries of CEO Sanjiv Kapoor and CFO Vipula Gunatilleka have been reduced. Earlier, Bloomberg reported that lenders to Jet Airways are resisting a court-approved resolution plan, further delaying the private airline’s relaunch.

Welspun Enterprises to receive ₹2,339 crore in first close of road asset sale

Welspun Enterprises Ltd. will receive about ₹2,339 crore from the first closing of the sale of six road assets to Actis Highway Infra Ltd., said Managing Director Sandeep Garg. “The enterprise value for the transaction is somewhere in the range of ₹9,049 crore, out of which approx. Rs 3,000 crore were received by us during the construction phase from the client,” he added. The five projects are the Welspun Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Welspun Road Infra, MBL (CGRG) Road, MBL Road Ltd., and Chikhali Tarsod Highways.

Infibeam Avenues receives RBI approval for Bharat Bill Payment licence

Infibeam Avenues Ltd has received a Perpetual Licence from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for its bill payments business, BillAvenue. The licence will allow BillAvenue to function as a Bharat Bill Payment Operating Unit (BBPOU) under Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS). The licence will help the company offer secure and uninterrupted services to 18,000+ billers, agent institutions and a network of ten lakh agents spread across 2,000 cities and towns in India.

Air India Express and AirAsia India (which has changed its name to AIX Connect) are exploring synergies in terms of having unified customer touchpoints ahead of their proposed merger. An operational review process is underway to integrate budget carrier AirAsia India with Air India Express, and the merger is likely to be completed by the end of 2023. Post-merger, the entity will be branded as Air India Express.

India’s industrial output grows 7.1% in April

India’s index of industrial production (IIP) grew 7.1% YoY to 135.1 in April 2022, compared to a growth of 1.9% in March. The mining sector rose by 7.8% year-on-year (YoY) to 116.0 in April, the manufacturing sector witnessed a growth of 6.3% to 132.5, and the electricity sector climbed 11.8% to 194.5.

Actis acquires road assets of Welspun Enterprises for Rs 6,000 crore

UK-based global investor Actis has acquired a portfolio of six operating highway toll road projects from Welspun Enterprises Ltd for an enterprise value of $775 million (~Rs 6,000 crore). The projects are located strategically across India, including in the most prominent North-South highway corridor. The portfolio benefits from a stable mix of annuity and toll cash flows.

Alembic Pharma gets USFDA approval for cancer treatment drug

Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd has received approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) to market Dasatinib tablets. The drug is used to treat certain types of leukemia (cancer of the blood cells). As per IQVIA data, Dasatinib tablets had an estimated market size of $1,465 million for the twelve months ended December 2021.

Coal India to import 6 MT more coal to meet power demand

Coal India Ltd has issued two tenders to import 6 million tonnes (MT) of coal in the next 12 months to meet surging power demand in India. This follows another tender issued on Thursday to import 2.42 MT of the dry fuel for delivery in July-September. These two medium-term import tenders of 3 MT each of coal have the option of increasing the bid quantity by 100% to 12 MT.

Strides Pharma gets USFDA nod for Ibuprofen suspension

Strides Pharma Science Ltd has received approval from the USFDA to market Ibuprofen OTC Oral Suspension in the US markets. Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used as a painkiller in conditions like headache, dental pain, menstrual cramps, muscle aches, or arthritis. The product will be manufactured at the pharma company’s facility in Bengaluru.

Bajaj Auto’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Chetak Technology Ltd. (CTL), inaugurated its new EV manufacturing plant at Akurdi, Pune. CTL and its vendor partners will invest ~Rs 750 crores in this new facility. Its production capacity will be swiftly increased to manufacture 5 lakh electric two-wheelers per year.

India’s peak power demand all-time high of 210,793 MW

India’s electricity demand touched a record high of 210,793 megawatts (MW) on Thursday as several regions in the north faced severe heatwave conditions. The highest demand until last year was 200,570MW, recorded on July 7, 2021. This year, the government is projecting peak electricity demand to go up to 215,000 MW once monsoon sets in large parts.

Total passenger vehicle sales rise 185% YoY in May: SIAM

According to newly released data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), total passenger vehicle (PVs) sales in May 2022 rose 185% YoY to 2,51,052 units. Three-wheeler sales jumped multifold to 28,542 units in May 2022, compared to 1,262 units in May 2021. Two-wheeler sales rose over 253% YoY to 12,53,187 units.

Indian crude oil basket hits 10-year high

The basket of crude oil that India buys has hit a 10-year high of $121 per barrel, but retail selling prices of petrol and diesel continue to remain unchanged. The Indian basket on June 9 touched $121.28, matching levels seen in February/March 2012. International oil prices held near a 13-week high on Thursday, supported by robust demand from key buyers like the US.

Petrol, diesel prices cut for second consecutive day

State-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) cut petrol and diesel prices for the second consecutive day on Thursday. The price of petrol fell by 21 paise per litre to Rs 90.78 per litre in Delhi. Diesel price fell by 20 paise to Rs 81.10 per litre in the national capital. Global crude oil prices have fallen due to growing concerns over lockdowns to contain the increasing number of Covid-19 cases.

Welspun Enterprises to take over Rs 1,900 crore HAM project in Kerala

Welspun Enterprises has agreed to take over a Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) project in Kerala from Calicut Expressway Pvt Ltd through the harmonious substitution process of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The project consists of six-laning the Kozhikode Bypass (Vengalam Jn. to Ramanattukara Jn.) of NH-66 in Kerala. The current estimated bid project cost is ~Rs 1,900 crore.

Dilip Buildcon emerges lowest bidder for HAM project in Karnataka

Dilip Buildcon Ltd (DBL) has emerged as the lowest (L1) bidder for a new Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) project in Karnataka. The project consists of four-laning the Sannur-Bikarnakette section of NH-169 in Karnataka. The bid cost of the 45 km-long project is Rs 1,137 crore.

In other news, Repallewada Highways (a wholly-owned subsidiary of DBL) has received a letter of appointed date from NHAI for a project in Telangana. The bid cost of the 52.6 km-long project is Rs 1,140.50 crore.

Barbeque Nation IPO subscribed 1.98 times on second day of bidding

The Rs 452-crore initial public offering (IPO) of Barbeque Nation Hospitality Limited was subscribed 1.98 times on the second day of bidding. The IPO has received bids for 98.75 lakh equity shares against an offer size of 49.99 lakh shares. The portion reserved for retail investors was subscribed 9.66 times. The portion set aside for non-institutional investors (NIIs) saw a subscription of 10% and that of qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) 37%.

Voltas executes business transfer agreement with Universal MEP Projects

Voltas Limited has executed a business transfer agreement with its wholly-owned subsidiary, Universal MEP Projects & Engineering Services Ltd (UMPESL), for transferring its domestic projects business. Voltas’ mechanical, electrical & plumbing (MEP), heating, ventilation & air-conditioning (HVAC), and water projects, mining & construction equipment (M&CE) divisions will be transferred to UMPESL. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of September 2021.

Kirloskar Ferrous signs mining lease deed with Karnataka Govt

Kirloskar Ferrous Industries Ltd (KFIL) was declared as the preferred bidder in an e-auction for Bharath Mines & Minerals, based on the highest final price offer submitted by the company. KFIL said it has entered into the mining lease deed with the Department of Mines and Geology, Government of Karnataka, for conducting mining operations for a period of 50 years. The operations at the mine commenced on March 24, 2021.

Wabco India’s promoter to sell 18.10% stake via OFS

Wabco India Limited said its promoter, ZF International UK, will offload an 18.10% stake in the company through an offer for sale (OFS). This consists of a base issue of 9.05% stake and an oversubscription issue (greenshoe option) of 9.05% stake. The floor price of the OFS has been fixed at Rs 5,450 per share, a discount of 11% compared to Wednesday’s closing price of Rs 6,102. The OFS will open for retail investors tomorrow (March 26).

Govt offers 67 blocks in second tranche of commercial coal mine auction

The Central government, on Thursday, launched the second tranche of auctions for commercial coal mining. A total of 67 coal blocks have been put up for sale. This is the highest number of mines on offer in a particular tranche (round) after the commencement of the auction regime in 2014. Out of the total 67 mines offered, 37 have been fully explored, while the remaining have been partially explored.
