Ardour Investment Holding and Emerging Market Investment DMCC acquired 7.92 crore shares or 2.06% stake in Adani Power between September 26 and November 16. Following the acquisition, the cumulative shareholding of promoters increased to 71.14%.

RBI’s move will not impact bank’s ability to grow: SBI Chairman

According to the Chairman of The State Bank of India, Dinesh Kumar Khara, the Reserve Bank of India’s move on consumer loans would not affect the lender’s ability to grow. The impact of the increased risk weight on personal loans (including credit cards) will be 55-60 basis points (bps). SBI’s capital adequacy ratio stood at 14.28% as of September end.

Lupin receives USFDA nod for Ganirelix Acetate injection

Lupin Ltd received approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for Ganirelix Acetate injection. The drug is used to treat ovarian hyperstimulation. The pharma major will manufacture the injection at its facility in Nagpur, Maharashtra. As per IQVIA MAT data for September 2023, Ganirelix Acetate Injection had estimated annual sales worth $84 million in the United States.

AGS Transact Technologies wins ₹1,100 crore order from SBI for 2,500 ATMs

AGS Transact Technologies Ltd has secured an order worth ₹1,100 crore from State Bank of India (SBI) to deploy 2,500 ATMs over seven years. The company will deploy these ATMs on a transaction fee basis as a part of the Total Outsourcing Model. It will start the deployment of the new ATMs in the next calendar year.

JSW Infrastructure has received a letter of award (LoA) from the Karnataka Maritime Board to construct an all-weather port project in Karnataka. The estimated cost of the project is ₹4,119 crore, with an initial capacity of 30 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The proposed Keni Port would have modern environment-friendly mechanised facilities for handling cape-size vessels.

The Ministry of Mines has written to Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL), stressing that any business reorganisation would require formal approval from the government. HZL’s board is exploring a corporate restructuring plan to create three separate legal entities for zinc & lead, silver, and recycling businesses to unlock shareholder value. The government has a 29.54% stake in HZL, which is 64.92% owned by Vedanta Ltd.

India’s retail inflation falls to 4-month low of 4.87% in October

India’s retail inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), declined to a four-month low of 4.87% in October. CPI stood at 5.02% in September 2023. The consumer food price index (CFPI) remained stable at 6.61% last month, a marginal decline from 6.62% recorded in September. RBI has projected 5.6% inflation for the October-December quarter.

Manappuram Finance Ltd reported a 20% YoY rise in net profit to ₹420 crore in the quarter ended September (Q2 FY24). The company’s total income stood at ₹1,456 crore, up 17% YoY. The interest income stood at ₹1,405 crore, up 13.4%YoY. Its finance costs grew 21% YoY to ₹443 crore. The company’s board declared a dividend of ₹0.85 per equity share.

ONGC to start oil production from $5 billion deep-water project this month

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is set to commence oil production from its Cluster-2 project in the Krishna Godavari basin in the Bay of Bengal. The floating production unit (FPSO), Armada Sterling-V, is already in the block. ONGC plans to gradually ramp up production, starting with 3 to 4 wells initially. Oil production from Cluster-2 should have begun by November 2021 but was delayed due to the pandemic.

India’s coal import rose 4% in September

India’s coal import increased by 4.3% YoY to 20.61 million tonnes (MT) in September. Non-coking coal imports stood at 13.89 MT, against 12.08 MT imported in September last financial year. Coking coal imports dropped to 4.59 MT from 4.88 MT imported in September FY23.

GAIL (India) Ltd has conducted the world’s first ship-to-ship liquefied natural gas (LNG) transfer to reduce shipping costs and cut emissions. Tata Steel to scrap 800 jobs in the Netherlands

Adani Group refinances $3.5 billion debt taken for ACC-Ambuja buy

The Adani Group is to sign a definitive agreement to refinance $3.5 billion of loans taken for last year’s acquisition of ACC Ltd and Ambuja Cement. At least 18 global banks have agreed to join the consortium led by Barclays, Deutsche Bank, and Standard Chartered. The Adani family will prepay around $300 million. This will also be the largest refinancing exercise across the Asia Pacific this financial year.

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL) secured a ₹350 crore contract from Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC). TRSL will design and manufacture 30 standard gauge cars for the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase-II Project. The prototype has to be delivered within 70 weeks from the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and delivery completion will be 94 weeks from the LOA. Kotak Mahindra Bank has received approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for its ₹537 crore acquisition of microlender Sonata Finance. The approval is for acquiring 100% of the issued and paid-up capital in Sonata. RBI has allowed Kotak to make Sonata as its business correspondent subsidiary, and the entity will now be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kotak Mahindra Bank.

PEL has a renewable energy portfolio of 288.8 MW, consisting of 50 MW wind power projects in Madhya Pradesh, 50 MW wind power projects in Karnataka and 188.8 MW wind power projects in Andhra Pradesh. PEL recorded revenue from operations of ₹296.77 crore during FY23.

RBI stops Bank of Baroda from adding customers to its mobile app

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has directed Bank of Baroda to stop adding customers to its mobile application, bob World. The ban is based on certain material supervisory concerns observed in the manner of onboarding of their customers onto this mobile application. In July, Al Jazeera reported that Bank of Baroda officials had linked bank accounts to unrelated mobile numbers to achieve stiff targets to get customers to join the app.

Bridgestone India has partnered with Tata Power to install electric vehicle (EV) chargers for four-wheelers at its dealerships across India. Tata Power will install 25/30 kilowatt-hour (Kwh) capacity DC fast chargers. The chargers are capable of charging a four-wheeler within one hour and will allow 20-24 vehicles to be charged in a day. It will be operational 24×7.

Adani Group’s $3.5 billion Ambuja loan moves ahead

A consortium of banks that had engaged in discussions to provide Adani Group with a $3.5 billion loan for refinancing the debt taken to acquire Ambuja Cements Ltd has now obtained internal approval for this loan. The banks will provide approximately $250 million each toward the syndicated loan. Barclays Plc, Deutsche Bank AG and Standard Chartered Plc are part of a larger consortium of banks.

India’s crude steel output grows to 70 MT in April-Sept

India’s crude steel production rose 14.7% YoY from 61.06 million tonnes (MT) to 69.65 MT during the April-September period of FY24. The increase in production was mainly due to improved capacity utilisation rates and the ramping up of capacities by key Indian steel players. The domestic consumption of finished steel also rose 14.77 YoY to 63.99 MT from 55.75 MT in FY24.

Godrej Properties to sell 14 acres of land in Gurugram

Godrej Properties is in advanced talks with Hero Realty to sell a 14-acre land parcel in Gurugram for around ₹730 crore. The real estate developer bought the land in Sector 89 around two years ago from a local land-aggregating company. The deal is said to be at an advanced stage and both parties have agreed on the transaction.

NSDL to acquire office space in BKC from IDFC Bank

National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL) has acquired a 68,000 sqft office space from IDFC First Bank in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) for approx. ₹198 crore. The property will serve as NSDL’s new headquarters and is expected to be ready by January-February 2024. The decision is part of the consolidation of the bank’s operations near its corporate office at IDFC FIRST Bank Tower in Mumbai.

SpiceJet and Celestial Aviation in advanced stages of settlement

SpiceJet Ltd and aircraft lessor Celestial Aviation Services Ltd are in advanced stages of settlement over a default of $29.9 million for nine aircraft. The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has deferred the matter to November 7. SpiceJet is facing insolvency proceedings from two other aircraft lessors and an engine lessor. The airline has argued against the maintainability of these petitions.

L&T Construction secures significant order from Rajasthan govt

Larsen and Toubro Ltd’s (L&T) construction arm has secured an order (worth ~₹1000-2500 crore) from the Rajasthan Government’s public health and engineering department. The engineering, procurement and construction order is to build a water supply project in the Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan for 648 villages from the Chambal River. This order marks L&T’s fourth order in this month so far.

Puravankara Ltd’s sale bookings rose 102% YoY to ₹1,600 crore in Q2 FY24 from ₹791 crore in Q1. The company’s sale bookings in value terms rose 89% YoY to 2.01 million square feet in Q2. It stood at 1.07 million in Q2 FY23. Average sales realisation also increased 7% to ₹7,947 per sq ft from ₹7,396 per sq ft last year.

Vedanta’s board has approved raising to ₹2,500 crore through the issue of secured, unrated, unlisted, redeemable non-convertible debentures (NCDs). The company will issue 2.5 lakh NCDs with a face value of ₹1 lakh each. The issue will be done on a private placement basis. The NCDs could be issued in one or more tranches. Vedanta mentioned that this proposal is part of its routine refinancing that is undertaken in the ordinary course of business.

ABB India Ltd has secured an order from Netherlands-based global logistics company Samskip to provide a comprehensive power distribution system for two new-built short-sea container ships. The company has issued a corporate guarantee in relation to the three-year term loan facility proposed to be availed by BPRL International BV through the State Bank of India, DIFC Branch. BPRL International is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bharat PetroResources Ltd (BPRL), which is a subsidiary of BPCL.

In December 2022, Advent entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a 50.1% stake in Suven Pharma. It will also launch an open offer for an additional 26% of the pharma company.

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has set aside an insolvency order against Coffee Day Global Ltd (CDGL). The Counsel representing the companies informed NCLAT’s Chennai bench about the settlement and sought permission to withdraw insolvency litigations. CDGL owns and operates the coffee chain Cafe Coffee Day.

Adani Group is in talks with banks to refinance debt taken on to fund its purchase of Ambuja Cements Ltd. This could be one of Asia’s largest syndicated loan deals of the year. IndiGo to use tech to study fatigue among their pilots

Pilots of IndiGo Airlines will soon wear a wrist gadget and use a ground device to detect fatigue and check their alertness level before and after their flights. The airline will start this experiment in collaboration with French aerospace conglomerate Thales Group. This is to collect data and use it to make flight patterns and rosters that reduce the tiredness of their pilots.

Reliance Jio seeks DoT approval to widen E-band spectrum use

Reliance Jio has sought approval from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to widen the use of the E-band spectrum. Last year, DoT gave E-band spectrum to telecom companies administratively for backhaul use only to smoothen the 5G rollout. Jio now wants the DoT to send a fresh reference to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), which underlines that the E-band spectrum can also be used for access services.

Bombay Dyeing and Manufacturing Company Ltd (BDMC) has approved the proposal to monetise a prime land parcel in Worli, Mumbai. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) argued before the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) that it sees significant red flags in the transactions between Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) and Essel entities. According to SEBI counsel, the scheme was to circulate ZEEL’s own money back into the company through entities to pay back the debt of Essel entities. SEBI added that the transactions between ZEEL and Essel entities can’t be genuine or a coincidence.

SEBI’s probe faults Adani group on disclosure rules

An investigation of the Adani Group by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has uncovered violations of rules on disclosures by listed entities and limits on the holdings of offshore funds. SEBI launched the inquiry after U.S.-based Hindenburg Research raised governance concerns around the Adani Group. The conglomerate had denied wrongdoing in January. The Supreme Court, which is overseeing SEBI’s investigation of the Adani Group, will hear the matter on Tuesday.

According to the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals is recalling 1,200 bottles of a generic drug, used to treat high blood pressure, in the American market due to a manufacturing issue. The New Jersey-based arm of the drug firm is recalling 1,200 bottles of Trandolapril and Verapamil Hydrochloride extended-release tablets. The affected lot has been manufactured at the pharma company’s Goa plant.

Venus Remedies has received approval to market Enoxaparin in pre-filled syringes in Saudi Arabia. The drug is used to prevent blood clots. The company sold enoxaparin syringes estimated to be worth USD 7.8 billion in 2021. Petrol, diesel sales fall in Aug as rains hit demand

According to preliminary data from state-owned oil firms, India’s petrol and diesel consumption fell in the first half of August compared to the previous month and a year ago as monsoon rains hit mobility and slowed industrial activity. Consumption of diesel fell 5.7% YoY to 2.67 million tonnes from August 1 to 15. Petrol sales fell 8% YoY to 1.19 million tonnes during the same period.

Coal India capex spending grows 8.5% to Rs 4,700 cr in Q1

Coal India Ltd’s capital expenditure (capex) rose 8.5% YoY during April-July (Q1) to ₹4,700 crore as it continued to invest heavily in evacuation infrastructure, land, and mining machinery. The capex spend during the first four months of FY24 was almost 100% of the target of ₹4,754 crore and 28.3% of the annual target of ₹16,600 crore.

Telecom services industry revenue growth may slow to 7-9% in FY24: ICRA

Ratings agency ICRA said the telecom services industry is expected to report moderate revenue growth of around 7-9% in FY24 due to muted average revenue per user (ARPU) expansion in the absence of tariff hikes. The capital expenditure levels of telecom firms are expected to remain elevated as they expand 5G coverage. This would keep the debt levels of the industry high at around ₹6.1-6.2 lakh crore as of March 2024.

US-based investment firm GQG Partners has invested $1.1 billion (~₹9,150 crore) in Adani Power for an 8.1% stake. GQG Partners bought 31 crore shares of Adani Power in the largest ever secondary market equity deal, and promoter Adani family sold the stake for over ₹9,000 crore. With this investment, GQG Partners has bought ₹34,000 crore ($4.2 billion) in Adani group companies since March this year.

Adani, PSU Bank Stocks Lift Up the Market – Post-Market Analysis

NIFTY opened the day at 17,451 with a gap-up of 129 points. It was a trending day and the index rallied non-stop with a small dip in the first half. NIFTY closed the day at 17,594, up by 272 points or 1.57%. 

BANK NIFTY started the day at 40,671 with a gap-up of 281 pts. 41K was broken and BNF stayed within the range without falling. The index closed at 41,251, up by 861 pts or 2.1%.

NIFTY PSU Bank (+5.4%) and NIFTY Metal (+3.5%) surged today. NIFTY Realty, NIFTY Finserv, NIFTY FMCG, and NIFTY Media closed more than 1% in the green.

Major Asian markets closed in green. European markets are currently trading in the green.

Adani Group stocks Adani Enterprises (+16.94%), Adani Ports (+9.91%), Adani Green Energy (+5%), and Adani Trans (+5%) rallied today after US-based GQG Partners invested Rs 15,446 crore in four portfolio companies.

SBIN (+5.14) shot up amid media reports that the bank may lower its stake in YES Bank. 

Bharti Airtel (+3.2%) gained after the announcement that it has crossed the 10 lakh unique 5G user mark on its network in Mumbai.

PSU Bank stocks Union Bank (+8.9%), UCO Bank (+8.2%), PSB (+6.6%), IOB (+6.1%), and others surged today! The global economic recovery and declining impact of the Hindenburg report on Adani Group stocks also helped the index go up.

TechM (-2.2%) was NIFTY’s top loser even after it declared plans to invest Rs 700 crore in the products & platforms division in 2 years.

Markets Ahead

That was a huge recovery rally we saw today. You can see that the Pre Market Analysis mentioned a 150-point up-move to see a green close for the week. That has happened and the recovery was so strong that the entire candle changed.

Let us closely watch 17,300 on the downside. 39,900 is the corresponding level in BNF. We should see Nifty breaking 18K to reverse the trend with strength as 17,944 is the previous swing point.

Reliance moved up by more than 2.5% and HDFC Bank moved up by 2%. There was positivity in all the sectors today.

The block deal in Adani led to the positivity we are seeing right now. This is the largest single day-gain in NIFTY in 2023 (so far!).
