Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) reported a 3.85% YoY rise in net profit to ₹2,717 crore for the quarter ended September 2023 (Q2 FY24). Net profit stood at ₹2,616 crore in Q2 last year. Its revenue from operations rose 3.53% YoY to ₹15,027 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹3,694 crore, up 9% YoY. The company’s board also declared a dividend of ₹18 per equity share.

NCLT approves Tata Steel Long Products’ amalgamation with Tata Steel

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved the amalgamation of Tata Steel Long Products Ltd with Tata Steel Ltd. Tata Steel is to merge Tata Steel Long Products and six other subsidiaries with itself. The subsidiaries to be merged with Tata Steel are Tata Steel Long Products, The Tinplate Company of India, Tata Metaliks, TRF, Indian Steel & Wire Products, Tata Steel Mining and S&T Mining Company.

Jindal Stainless Q2 Results: Net profit rises 75% YoY to ₹609 crore

Jindal Stainless Ltd reported a 74.5% YoY rise in net profit to ₹609.4 crore for the quarter ended September 2023 (Q2 FY24). Its total revenue rose 13.6% YoY to ₹9,720.4 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹1,069 crore, up 54% YoY. The company’s board has declared a dividend of ₹1 per equity share, with October 28, 2023 as the record date.

Dr Reddy’s Labs gets regulatory approval to study weight loss drug

Dr Reddy’s Laboratoris Ltd has received the Indian drug regulator’s approval to study the safety and efficacy of Semaglutide, a weight loss drug. The pharma company will conduct a bioequivalence study to establish the safety and efficacy of the drug on the Indian population. The company will launch the drug in a year if the bioequivalence studies meet expectations.

PVR Inox reported a net profit of ₹166 crore for the quarter ended September 2023 (Q2 FY24). The company posted a net loss of ₹71 crore in Q2 last year. Its revenue from operations rose 191% YoY to ₹2,000 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹706 crore, up 358% YoY.

Indoco Remedies Ltd’s solid oral formulation facility in Goa received four observations from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) after a Pre-Approval Inspection (PAI). The inspection took place from October 12-18, 2023, and was focused on two drug product applications (ANDAs) submitted from this facility. The observations signify areas where the facility may need improvements to align with regulatory standards.

UltraTech Cement reported a 69% YoY rise in net profit to ₹1,281 crore for the quarter ended September 2023 (Q2 FY24). Net profit stood at ₹756 crore in Q2 last year. Its revenue from operations rose 15% YoY to ₹16,012 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹2,718 crore, up 35% YoY.

Dabur India’s US subsidiaries sued over alleged cancer causing product

Dabur India Ltd’s three US subsidiaries are being sued over an alleged cancer causing product. The cases are in the early stages of legal discovery and revolve around allegations that a hair-relaxer product contains chemicals that may pose risks of ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, and various other health issues. These cases have been filed in both federal and state courts in the US and Canada.

Nestle India board approves stock split in 1:10 ratio

Nestle India’s board approved a 1:10 stock split for the first time in India. This means each share that an investor holds will be subdivided into 10 shares. The split will divide each fully paid-up equity share with a face value of ₹10 into 10 equity shares with a face value of ₹1. The record date for the split will be announced later.

Granules India gets USFDA nod for heartburn treatment drug

Granules India has received approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA_ for Esomeprazole Magnesium capsules. The drug is used to treat heartburn and other symptoms associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease. According to the IQVIA data for 12 months ended July 2023, the drug had annual sales of nearly $168 million in the US market.

SBI to raise Rs 50,000 crore via debt instruments in FY24

State Bank of India’s (SBI) board said it plans to raise up to Rs 50,000 crore this financial year (FY24) by issuing debt instruments. The instruments could be long-term bonds, Basel-III compliant additional tier-1 bonds, or Basel-III compliant tier-2 bonds. The move is part of the bank’s plans to meet the overall demand for credit. 

Demand for bank loans has consistently stayed in double digits despite a 250-basis points increase in interest rates since May 2022.

Tata Motors partners with HSBC India for EV financing solutions

Tata Motors has partnered with HSBC India to provide loans to corporate sector employees for buying electric vehicles (EVs). The deal offers customers with a salaried account with HSBC India a bespoke loan solution to buy from Tata’s EV portfolio. People who avail this loan will get a special accessory kit for the EV they purchase and other advantages like low processing fees, zero depositions, no hypothecation, and no documentation fees.

Allcargo Logistics closes 30% stake purchase from KWE in Gati subsidiary

Allcargo Logistics has successfully acquired a 30% stake (~1.50 lakh shares) in Gati-Kintetsu Express (GKEPL) for Rs 406.71 crore. The company’s subsidiary (Gati) already held a 70% stake in GKEPL. With this acquisition, Allcargo and Gati now own 100% of GKEPL and assume complete control. The completion of this transaction aligns with the Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) signed between the parties in March 2023.

Indoco Remedies gets EU-GMP certification for Himachal plant

Indoco Remedies has received the EU GMP certification for its manufacturing site in Himachal Pradesh. The health authority of Germany inspected the facility for oral dosage forms from May 22-25, 2023. The certification confirms compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice requirements. This EU certification will facilitate the supply of drug products registered in Europe from this manufacturing site, enhancing Indoco Remedies’ presence in the European market.

India’s forex reserves up $5.9 billion to $595.1 billion 

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that India’s foreign exchange reserves rose by $5.9 billion to reach $595.06 billion for the week ending June 2. This marked the largest increase in a month, breaking a two-week declining trend. India’s Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) decreased by $6 million to $18.186 billion, while the reserve position with the IMF grew by $10 million to $5.123 billion.

Zydus Lifesciences has initiated a Phase IV real-world data registry trial to evaluate the advantages of Saroglitazar Magnesium in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and comorbidities. The trial aims to enroll approx 1,500 male and female NAFLD patients with comorbidities such as obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, or metabolic syndrome. The study will span approximately 56 weeks.

RBI Cuts FY23 GDP Forecast to 7.2% – Top Indian Market News

RBI keeps policy rates unchanged; cuts FY23 GDP forecast to 7.2%

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to keep the repo rate unchanged at 4%. The reverse repo rate will also remain unchanged at 3.35%. The central bank will maintain its ‘accommodative’ stance to support growth and keep inflation within the target of 2-6%. RBI has projected real GDP growth of 7.2% for the current financial year (FY23), which is lower than its earlier estimate of 7.8%.

RBI imposes penalties on Axis Bank, IDBI Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of Rs 93 lakh on Axis Bank. The private sector lender violated certain provisions on loans and advances, Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines, and “levy of penal charges for non-maintenance of minimum balances in savings bank accounts”. The central bank has also slapped a fine of Rs 90 lakh on IDBI Bank for similar violations.

JSW Steel’s combined crude steel output grows 37% YoY in Q4

JSW Steel Ltd reported a 37% YoY increase in combined crude steel production at 5.98 million tonnes (MT) for the quarter ended March (Q4 FY22). The capacity utilisation of existing operations at the standalone level improved from 94% in Q3 to 98% in Q4. During the entire FY 2021-22, JSW Steel posted a 38% YoY growth in combined steel production to 21.47 MT.

Tax collections soar to a record Rs 27.07 lakh crore in FY22

India’s tax collections soared to a record high of Rs 27.07 lakh crore in FY22 as mop-up from income and other direct taxes as well as indirect taxes jumped. Gross tax collection of Rs 27.07 lakh crore from April 2021 to March 2022 compares with the Budget estimate of Rs 22.17 lakh crore. While direct taxes showed a 49% growth, indirect tax collections were up 30% in FY22.

Abu Dhabi’s IHC to invest $2 billion in 3 Adani Group firms

Abu Dhabi’s International Holding Company PJSC (IHC) will invest $2 billion (~Rs 15,180 crore) as primary capital in three Adani portfolio companies– Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL), Adani Transmission Ltd (ATL), and Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL). IHC will invest Rs 3,850 crore in AGEL, Rs 3,850 crore in ATL, and Rs 7,700 crore in AEL. The capital will be utilized for pursuing the growth of the respective businesses, further strengthening the balance sheet, and for general corporate purposes.

Sterling and Wilson RE’s loss narrows in Q4

Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd (SWREL) posted a loss of Rs 126.61 crore for the quarter ended March 2022 (Q4 FY22). It had reported a loss of Rs 344.80 crore in the corresponding period last year. The company’s revenue fell by 21.5% YoY to Rs 1,071 crore during the same quarter. SWREL reported a net loss of Rs 909.46 crore in FY22, compared to a loss of Rs 285.38 crore in FY21.

Indoco Remedies Ltd has received approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) to market Lacosamide Injection. The drug is used for the prevention and control of seizures. It is an anti-epileptic drug. According to IQVIA data, the generic version of the drug had annual sales of $43.8 million, growing at 25%.

V-Guard Industries bets on consumer durables, expansion outside south India

V-Guard Industries is betting big on its consumer durables and kitchen appliances division as well as increasing its operations outside south India. The company will open four new factories over the next 12 months– two in Hyderabad and one each in Vapi and Uttarakhand. This will help increase the share of in-house manufacturing in its product portfolio. V-Guard has invested about Rs 200 crore in its manufacturing & distribution expansion and will be investing Rs 180-200 crore more.

Govt returns bank guarantees worth Rs 15,000 crore to Vodafone Idea

The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) has returned bank guarantees worth Rs 15,000 crore to Vodafone Idea (Vi). It is in line with last year’s telecom reforms package, which reduced bank guarantee requirements for licence fees and spectrum dues. The Rs 15,000 crore bank guarantee pertains to spectrum auctions between 2012-’16. The DoT has also released bank guarantees worth Rs 7,000 crore to Bharti Airtel.

Equity mutual fund inflows rise 44% in March: AMFI

Net inflows into equity and equity-linked schemes increased 44% over the previous month to Rs 28,463.5 crore in March. Multi-cap funds witnessed the highest investments among all categories, while small caps saw the least. Monthly contributions into systematic investment plans (SIPs) recovered to hit an all-time high of Rs 12,327.9 crore in March. That data was released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).

Tata Motors to hike prices of commercial vehicles from April 1

Tata Motors Ltd will hike prices of its range of commercial vehicles by 2-2.5%, depending upon individual models and variants, from April 1. The increase in prices of commodities such as steel aluminium, and other raw materials has forced the automaker to hike prices. Bombay HC allows Invesco’s appeal against ZEEL injunction

The Bombay High Court has allowed an appeal filed by Invesco Developing Markets Fund (IDMF) against a single-judge order granting an interim injunction on holding an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to remove ZEEL’s CEO Punit Goenka. The HC has quashed and set aside the single bench order of October 2021. IDMF is the largest shareholder of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL). Infosys Ltd has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Oddity, a Germany-based digital marketing agency, in an all-cash deal of €50 million. The cost of acquisition will include earn-out, management incentives, and bonuses. Oddity has more than 300 digital experts across Stuttgart, Berlin, Cologne, Belgrade, Shanghai, and Taipei. The acquisition will strengthen Infosys’s creative, branding, and experience design capabilities.

Vehicle registrations fell 13.43% YoY in February: FADA

As per data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), overall vehicle registrations declined by 13.43% year-on-year (YoY) to around 14.99 lakh in February 2021. The figure stood at over 17.31 lakh units in the corresponding period last year (Feb 2020). However, the data shows that registration of passenger vehicles grew by 10.59% YoY to 2.54 lakh units last month.

Puravankara to invest Rs 450 crore to develop residential project in Mumbai

Puravankara Limited will invest Rs 450 crore to develop a mixed-use residential project in Chembur, Mumbai. The project, named ‘Purva Clermont’, will come under the developer’s luxury portfolio World Home Collection. The project will be built on a 2.25-acre land parcel and will have five towers— four residential buildings with 233 units and one commercial office building. Construction of the project will begin in 3 months and is expected to be completed by 2025.

L&T delivers 700 MW steam generator ahead of schedule

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has despatched the first out of four 700 MWe (megawatt electrical) steam generators for the Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP) ahead of schedule. With this, the company has created a new global benchmark in the nuclear manufacturing industry. The hi-tech equipment was manufactured at L&T’s manufacturing facilities at Hazira and Vadodara Heavy Engineering Works (VHEW).

JMC Projects (India) Limited has signed an agreement with Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Ltd (FDC) for the design, finance, and construction of 2,000 social housing units in Hulhumale Island of Maldives. FDC is a state-owned company of the Government of Maldives. The total value for the project is estimated to be around $137 million (~Rs 1,000 crore). Mumbai-based JMC Projects is a leading construction company. It is also a subsidiary of Kalpataru Power Transmission Limited.

Inox Wind Limited has signed an agreement with Integrum Energy Infrastructure to supply, erect, and commission 92 megawatts (MW) of wind power projects. The projects comprise 2 MW turbines with a combination of total turnkey and limited scope supply services. The company will supply and commission wind turbines at Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu by the third quarter of the next financial year (FY 2021-22).

The Rs 510-crore initial public offering (IPO) of Easy Trip Planners was subscribed 7.20 times on the second day of bidding. The issue received bids for 10.85 crore equity shares against an offer size of 1.5 crore shares. The portion reserved for retail investors was subscribed 32.71 times. The portion set aside for non-institutional investors (NIIs) saw a subscription of 4.05 times and that of qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) 28%.

Praj Industries secures order from HPCL for setting up biogas plant

Praj Industries has received an order from Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) for setting up a compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. The company will offer its RenGas technology to produce CBG from rice straw. The project will have the capacity to process 35,000 metric tonnes (MT) of rice straw as feedstock to generate 5,250 MT of CBG annually. Praj Industries stated that this project will be completed and commissioned within 12 months.

Indoco Remedies Limited has announced the launch of Brinzolamide Ophthalmic Suspension in the United States. The product is developed and manufactured by Indoco Remedies for TEVA Pharmaceuticals at its facility in Goa. It is used to treat high pressure inside the eye due to ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma. As per IQVIA data, the US market size of this product stood at $184 million (~Rs 1,343 crore) as of December 2020.

Fides Food is the beneficial owner of 32.81% equity shares in DP Eurasia, which is the master franchisee of Domino’s Pizza in four countries— Turkey, Azerbaijan, Russia, and Georgia. The total value of the acquisiton was nearly Rs 252 crore.

Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) Ltd reported a 16.22% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 1,576.53 crore for the quarter ended December (Q3). Its consolidated revenue rose 12% YoY to Rs 4,274.79 crore during the same period. APSEZ’s overall cargo volume surged 37% YoY to 76 million metric tonnes (MMT) in Q3. The revenue from port operations increased by 35% YoY, while its logistics business grew by 8% YoY during the October-December period.

GAIL acquires IEX’s 5% stake in Indian Gas Exchange

State-owned GAIL (India) Ltd has acquired a 5% stake in Indian Gas Exchange (IGX) from its parent company, Indian Energy Exchange (IEX). It has been reported that 36.93 lakh equity shares of IGX have been sold to GAIL for a cash consideration of Rs 3.69 crore. IEX stated that the partnership between IGX and GAIL will add robust value addition in the development of gas markets in India.

Muthoot Finance Q3 Results: Net profit rises 17% YoY to Rs 1,006 crore

Muthoot Finance reported a 17% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 1,006.6 crore for the quarter ended December (Q3). Its revenue rose 16% YoY to Rs 3,000.78 crore during the same period. The company’s consolidated loan assets grew by 28% YoY to Rs 55,800 crore during the nine months of 2020-21. Muthoot Finance said that its active customer base crossed 50 lakh.

HFCL partners with Qualcomm for development of Wi-Fi 6 products

HFCL Limited has partnered with US-based Qualcomm Technologies for the development of Wi-Fi 6 products. WiFi 6 is the next generation of WiFi, which is compatible and complementary to 5G networks. HFCL said it is eyeing to increase its WiFi segment revenue by threefold to Rs 450 crore over the next 3 years. The company will market the co-developed products worldwide after necessary trials under its IO brand.

Berger Paints Q3 Results: Net profit rises 51% YoY to Rs 275 crore

Berger Paints India Ltd reported a 51.2% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 274.98 crore for the quarter ended December (Q3). Its revenue from operations rose 25% YoY to Rs 2,118.2 crore during the same period. The company has witnessed a consistent pick-up in demand for its high-margin decorative paints business.

Tata Steel Q3 Results: Net profit at Rs 3,989 crore

Tata Steel Limited reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 3,989 crore for the quarter ended December (Q3). It had posted a net loss of Rs 1,228 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. The company’s revenue rose 11.5% YoY to Rs 39,594 crore in Q3 FY21. The company’s performance in Q3 was driven by higher prices, better product mix, lower exports, and operating efficiency initiatives.

IOB Q3 Results: Net profit at Rs 213 crore

Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) reported a net profit of Rs 213 crore for the quarter ended December. The bank has posted a net loss of Rs 6,075 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Net interest income (NII) rose 19% YoY to Rs 1,522 crore in Q3 FY21. IOB’s gross non-performing assets (GNPA) ratio declined to 12.19%, compared with 17.12% in Q3 FY20.

Bharat Electronics secures order worth Rs 1,000 crore from Ministry of Defence

Bharat Electronics Ltd has signed a contract with the Ministry of Defence for the procurement of Software Defined Radio Tactical (SDR-Tac). The estimated contract value is Rs 1,000 crore. SDR-Tac is a radio system primarily used in ships. BEL will deliver the product to the Indian Navy within three years.

Mahanagar Gas Q3 Results: Net profit rises 16% YoY to Rs 217 crore

Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) reported a 16.8% YoY increase in net profit to Rs 217.2 crore for the quarter ended December (Q3). Its revenue rose 10.4% YoY to Rs 666.4 crore during the same period. MGL has increased the price of CNG by Rs 1.50 per kg and that of domestic PNG (cooking gas) by 95 paise per unit in Mumbai. The company’s board has declared an interim dividend of Rs 9 per share.

Indoco Remedies Q3 Results: Net profit jumps 169% YoY to Rs 25 crore

Indoco Remedies reported a 169.2% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 25.1 crore for the quarter ended December (Q3). The company’s consolidated revenue rose 17.2% YoY to Rs 332.3 crore during the same period. Revenue from its international business registered a strong growth of 73% YoY in Q3. Indoco Remedies is a Mumbai-based research-oriented pharma company that has a presence in over 55 countries.

BPCL to sell 61.6% stake in Numaligarh refinery by March-end

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) said it plans to complete its 61.65% stake sale in Numaligarh Refinery (NRL) to Oil India Limited and the Government of Assam by March 31. The transaction is subject to government approvals. The sale of NRL is considered to be the first step towards the disinvestment of BPCL. In the nation’s biggest privatisation till date, the Central government will sell its entire 52.98% stake in BPCL.

NBCC’s subsidiary secures project worth Rs 1,800 crore

NBCC (India) Ltd announced that its subsidiary, HSCC Limited, has secured a project for the upgradation of district hospitals and medical colleges in 12 districts of Rajasthan. The agreement was signed between HSCC and the Medical Education Department, Government of Rajasthan. The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 1,800 crore.
