Key Levels Taken Out! Bearishness Continues – Post-Market Analysis

NIFTY started the day flat at 19,286. After an initial up-move to 19,350 levels, the index fell 270 points to 19,075. During the decline, Nifty tried taking support at 19,200 levels, took rejection near yesterday’s low, and continued the fall. The index consolidated post 1:30 PM and finally closed at 19,122, down by 159 points or 0.83%.

Nifty chart October 25 - post-market analysis | marketfeed

BANK NIFTY (BNF) started the day at 43,308 with a gap-up of 157 points.  After an initial consolidation, the index fell nearly 600 points from the intraday high (continuing the fall from yesterday). BNF closed at 42,832, down by 319 points or 0.74%.

Bank Nifty chart October 25 - post-market analysis | marketfeed

All major indices except Nifty PSU Bank (+0.17%) and Nifty Metal (+0.15%) closed in the red. Nifty Media (-1.6%) and Nifty IT (-1.03%) fell the most.

Major Asian markets closed in the green. European markets are currently trading up to 0.4% in the red.

Today’s Moves

Coal India (+1.37%) was NIFTY50’s top gainer. ICICI Securities has maintained a ‘Buy’ advisory on the stock and raised its target price from ₹325 to ₹395.

Welspun India (+11.2%) hit a one-year high after the company posted strong Q2 results on the back of higher demand for home linens.

Amber Enterprises (+6.49%) jumped after several analysts raised the stock’s target price even as the company’s losses for Q2 FY24 widened over last year.

Infosys (-2.7%) was NIFTY50’s top loser. The stock turned ex-dividend today.

Shares of Jubilant Pharmova (-7.7%) fell sharply today.

Markets Ahead

Bearishness continues in the Indian market! Nifty and Bank Nifty have broken down major supports. After this fall, the indices might undergo volatility or a small retracement.

Nifty: The important support for the index is near 18,900 levels, which is a bit far from the spot. It is a major target that could be expected in the coming days. The index may retrace a bit in between. Meanwhile, the major resistance will now be 19,200 levels (the earlier support levels). If that level is crossed, the targets could be 19,260 and 19,350.

Bank Nifty: The next major support to consider in BNF is 42,500. The major resistance level to watch out for will be 43,000. If that level is breached, we can expect the index to move up to 43,180 and 43,450 levels. But for a major trend reversal, the index has to cross 43,700.

Major indices have stretched a lot on the downside over the past few days. So a retracement or some profit booking could be seen going forward, which can take the markets up a little. But look for sell-on-rise opportunities only till major resistances are crossed.

Which are the Highest Dividend Paying Stocks in India?

A dividend is a payment made by a company to its shareholders out of its earnings or accumulated profits. Listed companies usually pay dividends in cash and are an additional source of income for shareholders. They also issue dividends as additional shares of stock or other forms of property. Dividends serve as a way for companies to reward shareholders for their investments. However, companies are not legally bound to pay dividends. All companies can choose to issue dividends at their own discretion. In this article, we will examine the top dividend-paying stocks in India.

Why Should You Invest in Dividend Paying Stocks?

Passive Income

Dividends can be an excellent source of passive income. Passive income refers to earnings that require minimal effort or ongoing involvement of the investor. Dividend payments fit this definition because once you invest in dividend-paying stocks, you can receive regular income without actively working for it.

Regular Cash Flow

Dividend payments are often made quarterly or annually. This regularity provides a predictable income stream. Additionally, since companies pay dividends in cash, there will be a regular cash flow.

Increased Total Return

Dividend income can contribute to the total return of an investment. Total return refers to an investment’s overall profit or loss over a specific period. It considers both capital appreciation and any other income from the investment, such as dividends. When you reinvest dividends in the company’s shares, it can supercharge the total return through compounding.

Cushioning Market Volatility

Dividend-paying stocks can act as a cushion during market downturns. Even if the stock price temporarily declines, investors still receive dividend payments, which can help offset potential losses. This dividend income can provide stability to your portfolio and reduce the impact of market volatility.

Indicator of Financial Health

Companies that consistently pay dividends often exhibit stability and predictability in their financial performance. These companies are typically well-established, generate steady profits, and have a history of sharing their earnings with shareholders. Dividend payments can reassure investors of the company’s financial health and stability.

Factors to Consider Before Investing in Dividend-paying Companies

Not all companies that pay dividends are good. Before choosing a company to invest in, you should consider different factors. A few of them are listed below:

Dividend History

A company that has paid consistent dividends over the years tends to continue paying dividends in the future. Examine the company’s dividend payment history. Look for companies with a history of paying dividends consistently over a significant period. Consider whether the dividends have been maintained or increased over time. A stable or growing dividend history indicates the company’s commitment to rewarding shareholders.

Dividend Yield Ratio

The dividend yield ratio of a share is the ratio of the annual dividend per share to the share’s market price. It evaluates the dividend amount relative to the stock price. A higher dividend yield may indicate a potentially attractive income-generating opportunity. However, the dividend yield ratio is dynamic, as the value ratio changes with the stock price. It is essential to compare the yield with industry peers and assess its sustainability.

Dividend Payout Ratio

The dividend payout ratio represents the proportion of earnings paid out as dividends. A lower payout ratio indicates that the company retains a sizeable portion of its earnings for reinvestment or future growth, which can be positive for long-term stability. On the other hand, a high payout ratio may indicate that the company is distributing a significant portion of its profits, potentially limiting its ability to invest in growth opportunities or withstand economic downturns.

Payout Ratio = Dividends Per Share/Earnings Per Share × 100

Payout Ratio = Dividends per share/Free Cash Flow Per Share × 100

Company’s Financial Health

Look into the company’s financial health by reviewing its financial statements, including revenue growth, profitability, debt levels, and cash flow. A company with robust financials and a healthy balance sheet holds a solid position to sustain and potentially increase dividend payments.

Growth Prospects

Consider the company’s growth prospects and future earnings potential. While dividends provide income, assessing whether the company can grow its earnings over time is essential. Sustainable dividend payments often align with a company’s ability to generate consistent profits and reinvest in its business for future growth.

Economic and Market Conditions

Evaluate the broader economic and market conditions. Some industries, such as utilities or consumer staples, tend to have more stable cash flows. They are better positioned to maintain dividend payments during economic downturns. Consider the impact of economic factors, interest rates, and market volatility on the company’s ability to sustain its dividend payments.

Valuation

Assess the company’s valuation relative to its peers and its historical valuation. A company with an attractive valuation may provide an opportunity for capital appreciation in addition to dividend income. However, be cautious of excessively high dividend yields that may signal

underlying risks.

The U.S. Futures are trading flat.

GIFT NIFTY is trading down at 19,866, after Infy’s fall.

All the factors combined indicate a gap-down opening.

NIFTY has supports at 19,820, 19,765, 19,740 and 19,725. We can expect resistances at 19,900 and 19,950.

BANK NIFTY has supports at 46,000, 45,900 and 45,800. Resistances are at 46,253, 46,300, and 46,500.

NIFTY has the highest call OI build-up at 20,000. The highest put OI build-up is at 19,800.

BANK NIFTY has the highest call OI build-up at in the money 46,000. The highest put OI build-up is also at 46,000.

Foreign Institutional Investors net-bought shares worth Rs 3,370 crores. Domestic Institutional Investors net-sold shares worth Rs 193 crores.

INDIA VIX is at 11.78.

Bank Nifty showed consistent strength throughout the day, and once it broke the all-time high gave multiple bursts of strength. Both indices closed at fresh all-time highs. Reliance saw a net positive move after the demerger.

The best moves are the ones without any news or reason. And the time for the looks to have temporarily ended in NIFTY with the starting of results season.

Expect a gap-down opening in NIFTY with Infosys volatility. And expect intraday volatility from Reliance results. If both stocks start moving down, NIFTY would see strong good pull-back towards 19,750 zones.

Bank Nifty option chain remains interesting. With a huge straddle buildup at 46,000, OI indicates that further rally is not optimal. But a breakout, and short-covering can only be expected if another round of fireworks push it above 46,700, which is quite far away.

ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Yes Bank will be in focus ahead of their results tomorrow.

With it being the monthly expiry series, we can expect some calm before the storm next Thursday. The fresh all-time high made yesterday near 20,000 might be defended till then.

I will watch 19,845 on the downside in NIFTY. 19,920 can be watched on the upside.

Nifty Misses 20,000 by an Inch! – Post-Market Analysis

NIFTY started the day flat at 19,831. The index initially moved down to 19,760 levels (which was a major support zone). Then, Nifty started its upside rally and went up till 19991.7— hitting a fresh all-time high and missing the 20,000 mark by just 9 points! Nifty closed at 19,979, up by 146 points or 0.74%.

BANK NIFTY (BNF) started the day at 45,689 with a small gap-up of 19 points. The index initially consolidated within a small range above the resistance level of 45,700. Then, similar to Nifty, Bank Nifty just moved up throughout the day to hit an all-time high of 46,257. BNF closed at 46,186, up by 517 points or 1.13%.

All indices except Nifty IT (-0.66%) closed flat-to-green. Nifty Pharma (+1.46%) and Nifty FMCG (+1.35%) moved up the most.

Major Asian markets closed mixed. European markets are currently trading in the green.

Today’s Moves

ITC (+2.7%) was NIFTY50’s top gainer. The stock hit a fresh 52-week high of ₹493.7 and its market cap crossed the ₹6 lakh crore mark.

Polycab (+9.48%) extended gains for the second day after the company reported an 81% YoY increase in its net profit for Q1.

Hatsun Agro Products (+7.5%) jumped over 12% after posting its Q1 results.

Reliance (-7.8%) turned ex-date for demerger of its financial services business.

Infosys (-1.7%) posted an 11% year-on-year (YoY) growth in consolidated net profit to ₹5,945 crore in Q1; missing street estimates.

ABB India (-6.4%) fell after its parent company’s order inflows declined 2% to $8,667 million in CY2023.

Markets Ahead

As mentioned earlier, the Indian markets have turned bullish and both Nifty and Bank Nifty are at their all-time highs.

Nifty: Now, the important resistance for Nifty will be the bigger round level of 20,000 and support will be 19,840 levels. If Nifty crosses the 20,000 mark, it can move further higher to a target of 20,080 as per pivot levels. If the index crosses 19,930, which is the previous swing, a target of 19,888 and 19,840 levels can be achieved.

Bank Nifty: The important support zone now in Bank Nifty will be the round level of 46,000. The major resistance will be today’s high. If there’s a breakout on the upside, the index can move to 46,600 zones according to pivot levels. A breakdown from 46,000 can give us a target of 45,870 and 45,760 levels eventually.

Even though the markets kept moving higher and higher, it was an easy expiry for both option buyers and sellers. How did your expiry day go? Are you in net profit or loss? Let us know in the comment section of the marketfeed app!

Meanwhile, shares of de-merged Reliance Industries (RIL) were discovered at ₹2,580 on NSE and ₹2,589 on BSE after the special pre-opening session organised by the stock exchanges. RIL’s NBFC unit Jio Financial Services’ price came out to be ₹261.85 per share, beating estimates of up to ₹170.

Crazy OI in Nifty! Short Covering Loading? Pre Market Analysis

Here are some of the major updates that could move the markets today:

Stocks

Tata Communications reported a 30% fall in net profit at Rs 382 crore for the first quarter ended June. Revenue from operations, however, jumped 11% to Rs 4,771 crore.

Shares of  HUL, Infosys, Havells, and United Spirits will be in focus today as the companies will announce their first quarter results today.

Federal Bank has launched a QIP (qualified institutional placement) issue and fixed Rs 132.59 as the floor price.

What to Expect Today?

NIFTY opened with a gap-up at 19,810 and moved up. The index saw a down-move and there was a recovery in the second half leading to a volatile day. NF closed at 19,833, up by 84 points or 0.42%.

BANK NIFTY opened with a gap-up at 45,650 and traded in a range of 200 points. There was an up-move at 3 PM and the index closed at 45,670, up by 258 points or 0.57%.

IT moved up by 1.06%.

The US markets closed in the green. The European markets closed mixed with DAX closing flat and FTSE rallying.

The Asian markets are trading mixed.

The U.S. Futures and European futures are trading mixed.

GIFT NIFTY is trading at 19,835.

All the factors combined indicate a flat opening.

NIFTY has supports at 19,820, 19,765, 19,740 and 19,725. We can expect resistances at 19,850, 19,900 and 19,950.

BANK NIFTY has supports at 45,485, 45,430 and 45,280. Resistances are at 45,715, 45,750, 45,800 and 46,000.

NIFTY has the highest call OI build-up at 20,000. The highest put OI build-up is at 19,800.

BANK NIFTY has the highest call OI build-up at 46,000. The highest put OI build-up is at 45,500.

Foreign Institutional Investors net-bought shares worth Rs 1,200 crores. Domestic Institutional Investors also net-bought shares worth 2,100 crores.

INDIA VIX is at 11.6.

Though Bank Nifty was range bounded and did not see a strong 3 PM rally, unlike Nifty, the index outperformed Nifty. Reliance saw a big move before the demerger.

There will be a special session to decide the post-merger price of Reliance. Reliance will start trading only after 10 AM. We can expect Jio Financial Services to be listed in the market in four months.

Watch 1674 and 1688 in HDFC Bank. The IT giants consolidated after a fall in the morning.

Look at the call OI build-up at 19,850 CE in Nifty. It is so huge despite being a strike just 17 points away from the spot. Imagine the magnitude of short covering that could happen if that level is broken.

In case that happens, see where BN can rally to. The index has been suppressed by the option sellers leading to a range-bound day. A move out of the zone could be a big one.

No major data are coming out this week. Let us focus on the Reliance demerger. UK CPI came out slightly better than the estimates.

I will watch 19,765 on the downside in NIFTY. 19,850 can be watched on the upside.

Nifty and Bank Nifty Hits Fresh Highs! – Post-Market Analysis

NIFTY started the day at 19,787 with a gap-up of 76 points— hitting a record all-time high again! Initially, a small profit booking was seen till 19,750 zones. From there, Nifty continued the rally to 19,820 levels and then saw a sharp fall to 19,700 round levels. The index consolidated with a positive bias for the rest of the day. Nifty closed at 19,749, up by 37 points or 0.19%.

BANK NIFTY (BNF) started the day at 45,754 with a gap-up of 305 points— hitting an all-time high. The index initially moved up to 45,900 levels and a small profit booking kicked in till 45,650 levels. Then, it moved back to the day’s high, made a double-top pattern, and came under selling pressure to 45,300 levels (which was also a previous resistance zone that now acted as support). The index immediately rebounded 300 points and another round of sell-off happened till the day’s low again. BNF closed at 45,410, down by 38 points or 0.09%.

All indices except Nifty IT (-1.06%) closed flat-to-red today. Nifty Media (-1.84%) and Nifty PSU Bank (-1.23%) fell the most.

Major Asian markets closed mixed. European markets are currently trading flat.

Today’s Moves

Infosys (+3.67%) was NIFTY50’s top gainer. The IT major secured a five-year deal worth $2 billion from an existing client. The company will post its Q1 results today.

Godrej Agrovet (+5.6%) after the Telangana govt allotted 47,000 acres for its oil palm business.

Polycab India (+5.4%) after net profit in Q1 FY24 beat analysts’ estimates.

HDFC Life (-1.59%) was NIFTY50’s top loser.

CCL Products (-8.6%) crashed after the company’s operating margins for Q1 fell by 115 basis points to 16.23%.

Markets Ahead

Nifty and Bank Nifty are clearly bullish as we’ve been mentioning in the previous post-market reports. The targets of 19,800 in Nifty and the ATH of Bank Nifty were hit today and the indices moved according to our analysis.

Both indices have rallied without giving much of a retracement, and every dip is getting bought. But looking at the fall from their respective all-time highs, Nifty and Bank Nifty might come under some selling pressure if there’s a follow-up tomorrow.

Nifty: The major support for Nifty will now be 19,700 zones (which was today’s low) and the major resistance will be the 19,750-780 zones, where the index faced multiple rejections. The next major resistance will be the 19,820 zone. So a breakout from 19,750-780 with a re-test may give a first target of 19,820 and then 19,840 eventually (which is also a pivot level).

Bank Nifty: The index is now at a support zone near 45,300-350. If support is being taken from here, we can expect Bank Nifty to move up to 45,560 zones and then eventually to 45,850 zones (which is near an all-time high and that can act as a major resistance).

Fin Nifty was as volatile as Bank Nifty today! Every 5min candle movement was huge— causing trouble to both option buyers and option sellers. In this kind of choppy expiries, money management and following proper rules will be the biggest weapon for traders.
