SJVN signs two agreements to supply 1,200 MW solar power to Punjab

Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Ltd has signed two pacts with Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) to supply 1,200 MW of solar power from its projects. SJVN signed two power purchase agreements (PPAs) for 1,200 MW of solar power recently. SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), SJVN’s arm, proposed the rate of ₹2.53 per unit for the supply of 1,000 MW and ₹2.75 per unit for another 200 MW.

SBI offers relief to loan borrowers in Manipur

The State Bank of India (SBI) has offered to extend relief on loans to its customers in Manipur, who have been affected by the ongoing unrest in the state. The relief package includes a moratorium of up to 12 months on equated monthly instalments (EMIs), interest payments, and other instalments. It will be available to borrowers whose accounts had not turned into non-performing assets (NPAs) as on May 3, 2023.

NCLT allows GE Power to withdraw insolvency petition as BHEL offers settlement

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) allowed GE Power to withdraw its insolvency petition against Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd with the liberty to revive if the operational debt is not settled. Counsels for GE Power Akshay Sapre, along with Abhijit Swarup and Aneesha Rastogi from The Guild, a law firm, informed the tribunal that BHEL had sent a letter to GE Power to settle ₹25 crore of debt amount owed to GE Power.

JSW Steel may pick majority stake in Teck Coal unit

JSW Steel Ltd is looking to form a consortium to bid for a majority stake in Teck Resources Ltd.’s steelmaking coal business. The company’s offer potentially rivals an $8 billion offer from commodities giant Glencore Plc. JSW is seeking partners for an offer to acquire a 75% interest in the asset, known as Elk Valley Resources Ltd. That’s a marked shift in approach from July when Bloomberg News reported JSW was interested in up to 20% of Teck’s coal business.

Private equity (PE) firm ChrysCapital remains firmly in the race to acquire Glenmark Pharma’s stake in Glenmark Life Sciences (GLS), with reports about Nirma closing on the deal doing the rounds. Glenmark Pharma’s stake sale is a procedural requirement as per the listing guidelines. Glenmark Pharma’s shareholding in GLS, which is 83% currently, needs to come down to 75% no later than August 2024.

USFDA’s concerns in Lupin’s Goa, Pithampur units are resolved

Lupin Ltd has received correspondence from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) that it has now addressed the concerns raised in the warning letter for its facilities in Goa and Pithampur Unit-2, Indore. This comes after the satisfactory evaluation of the corrective actions taken by the company in response to the warning letter that was issued on November 6, 2017. On July 12, the USFDA inspected its Nagpur oral solid dosage facility from July 3-11. The inspection closed with the issuance of Form 483, with two observations.

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) reported a 31% YoY rise in consolidated net profit to ₹814 crores for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). On a sequential basis, the net profit fell 71% from ₹2,831 crore in the March quarter. Its revenue from operations for the quarter stood at ₹3,915 crore, up 8% YoY. EBITDA also rose 6% YoY to ₹880 crore in Q1.

India’s industrial output rises 3.7% in June

India’s industrial production dipped to 3.7% in June, down from 5.3% in May 2023. Factory output measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) had risen to 12.6% in June 2022. The mining sector output saw a growth of 7.6% in June this year, down from 7.8% seen a year ago. The manufacturing sector output grew by 3.1% in June this year after growing 12.9% in the same month a year ago.

Nykaa Q1 Results: Net profit rises 8% YoY to ₹5.4 crore

Nykaa reported an 8% YoY rise in consolidated net profit to ₹5.4 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). Its revenue from operations for the quarter stood at ₹1,422 crore, up 24% YoY. EBITDA rose 60% YoY to ₹73.5 crore in Q1. Physical retail space increased 43% YoY with 152 stores at the end of the June quarter. The company’s owned brands’ gross merchandise value (GMV) grew close to 40% YoY.

CCI clears Kotak-Biocon Biologics deal

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has cleared Kotak Special Situations Fund’s (KSSF) proposed investment in Biocon Biologics Ltd under the green channel route. In February, KSSF (an arm of Kotak Mahindra Bank) announced a ₹1,070 crore investment in Biocon to help a subsidiary of the Bengaluru-based company in an acquisition. The investment will help Biocon Biologics’ acquisition of the biosimilars business of its partner Viatris. KSSF is a SEBI-registered alternative investment fund (AIF).

Apollo Hospitals Q1 Results: Net profit falls 47% YoY to ₹173 crore

Apollo Hospitals reported a 47% YoY rise in net profit to ₹173 crore for the June quarter (Q1 FY24). However, its revenue from operations rose 16% YoY to ₹4,418 crore during the same period. Consolidated EBITDA stood at ₹509, up 4% YoY. Revenue from existing hospitals grew 10%, while that from the new hospitals rose 23% during the reporting period.

India’s forex reserves fall $2.41 billion to $601.5 billion as on Aug 4

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), India’s foreign exchange reserves fell by $2.41 billion to $601.453 billion for the week ending August 4. Foreign currency assets (FCAs) dropped by $1.94 billion to $533.4 billion. Gold reserves also dipped by $224 million to $44.7 billion, while SDRs dropped by $171 million to $18.27 billion. The reserve position in the IMF decreased by $86 million to $5.1 billion.

Godrej Industries Q1 Results: Net profit falls 13% YoY to ₹178 crore

Godrej Industries reported a 13% YoY fall in consolidated net profit to ₹178 crore for Q1 FY24. Its total revenue rose 15% YoY to ₹4,893 crore during the same period. EBITDA rose 28% YoY. The sales growth came on the back of 10% YoY volume growth in constant currency. Its real estate business in Q1 FY24 witnessed a total booking value of ₹2,254 crore with 2.25 million square feet of area sold during the quarter.

NCLAT stays admission of Coffee Day Enterprises for insolvency

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) of the bankruptcy court stayed the admission of Coffee Day Enterprises Ltd (CDEL). The stay was after it was challenged by the promoter, Malavika Hedge. She claimed that the default occurred during the “calm period” amid the global pandemic in March 2020 when lenders were barred from approaching the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for default on loans. On July 20, 2023, the Bangalore NCLT admitted CDEL for corporate insolvency on a petition filed by IndusInd Bank.

Info Edge reported a 35% YoY increase in net profit to ₹200 crore for Q1 FY24. Its revenue from operations rose 15% YoY to ₹584 crore during the same period. Sequentially, the net profit rose nearly 12%, and the revenue increased by 4%. Tax outgo for the quarter was higher at ₹67 crore, compared to ₹46 crore a year ago.

The tribunal has also dismissed all objections regarding the merger.  This is a key regulatory approval for the mega-merger, aimed at creating a $10-billion media giant.

RBI keeps repo rate unchanged at 6.5%

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) left the repo rate (key policy rate) unchanged at 6.5%. The central bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) also retained its withdrawal of accommodation stance to ensure that the retail inflation remains within the target of 4%. The RBI retained the GDP growth projection for the current financial year (FY24) at 6.5% and raised the inflation projection marginally to 5.4%

Grasim Industries reported an 18% YoY fall in consolidated net profit to ₹1,576 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). SBI Card enables RuPay credit cards on UPI

SBI Card and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) announced the linking of SBI credit cards on the RuPay platform with UPI. The company’s customers will now be able to make UPI transactions through credit cards issued on RuPay. The facility can be availed of by registering the credit card with third-party UPI apps.

Pidilite Industries reported a 31.5% YoY jump in net profit to ₹473.7 crore for Q1 FY24. Its consolidated revenue rose 5.6% YoY to ₹3,275.1 crore during the same period. EBITDA rose 33.5% YoY ₹706.8 crore from ₹529.5 crore in the same quarter last year. EBITDA margin also expanded by 450 basis points (bps) from 17.1%, YoY to 21.6%.

Godrej Cons to build manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu

Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL) announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government of Tamil Nadu. The MoU is for building a manufacturing facility near Chennai. The company will make an investment of ₹515 crore over the next five years. It will serve as a manufacturing hub for brands such as Cinthol, Godrej Expert Rich Crème, Godrej Selfie Shampoo Hair Colour, and Goodknight.

Hero MotoCorp reported a 32% YoY increase in net profit to ₹825 crore for Q1 FY24. Its consolidated revenue rose 4.5% YoY to ₹8,767.3 crore during the same period. NHPC plans to build pumped hydro storage projects of 22,000 MW

NHPC Ltd is planning to develop around 20,000-22,000 MW of pumped hydro energy storage projects in the coming years. The capacities are being explored in Odisha, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Tata Power reported a 22.4% YoY rise in consolidated net profit to ₹972 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). Its consolidated revenue from operations stood at ₹15,213.29 crore, up 5% YoY. EBITDA increased 75% YoY to ₹2,943.6 crore in Q1. Tata Power accrued a one-time gain of Rs 235 crore in the reported quarter on account of deemed gain on dilution of around 17% stake in Tata Projects.

Hero MotoCorp faces tax probe over links to vendor

According to a Reuters report, The Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence is investigating Hero MotoCorp’s relationship with a vendor suspected of reporting about ₹90 crore ($10.87 million) in false expenditure. Based on the alleged fake spending by vendor Salt Experiences, Hero MotoCorp received a tax credit, leading to suspected tax evasion of about ₹16 crore rupees.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) reported a consolidated net loss of ₹53 crore for the June quarter (Q1 FY24). Net profit stood at ₹107 crore in Q1 FY23. Its consolidated revenue from operations rose 7.6% YoY to ₹1,984 crore during the same period. Sequentially, the net loss narrowed from Rs 196 crore, while revenue declined 6%. BSE reported a 1000% YoY jump in consolidated net profit to ₹440 crore for Q1 FY24. Net profit stood at ₹40 crore in Q1 FY23. Its revenue from operations rose 15% YoY to ₹216 crore during the same period. EBITDA rose 41% YoY ₹70 crore. The operating profit margin contracted by 375 basis points to 10.78%. The massive jump in net profit was due to a profit of ₹406.6 crore on divestment in CDSL.

Genus Power Infrastructures’ subsidiary has bagged an order worth ₹2,210 crore. The order is for the supply and installation of 21.77 lakh smart pre-paid electricity meters. The company has received a letter of award (LOA) of ₹2,209.84 crore (net of tax) for the appointment of an advanced metering infrastructure service provider. Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL) on Monday announced that its board has approved a capital expenditure of ₹900 crore. The capital expenditure is for setting up new manufacturing sites in Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh. This is being done to cater to the growing customer demand as well as consolidate the manufacturing footprint. GCPL’s board took the decision at a board meeting held on August 7. The company will fund the project through a mix of internal accruals and debt.

Tata Chemicals Ltd reported an 11.8% YoY decline in net profit to ₹523 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). Net profit stood at ₹593 crore in Q1 last year. Its consolidated revenue from operations stood at ₹4,218 crore, up 5.6% YoY. EBITDA increased 2.8% YoY to ₹1,043 crore in Q1. As on 30 June 2023, consolidated gross debt dropped to ₹5,873 crore, as compared to ₹6,296 crore as of March 31, 2023.

Adani Energy Solutions gets financial closure for $1B project

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) announced financial closure for its $1 -billion green high voltage direct current (HVDC) link project. It will enable further ‘greening’ of the Mumbai Grid by supplying more renewable power to the city while supporting its rising electricity demand. The 80 km multi-faceted project’s construction work for this link will begin in October this year. The credit facility is part of the $700 million revolving project finance facility tied up in October 2021 for its under-construction transmission assets portfolio.

Reliance plans crude unit maintenance at Jamnagar complex

Reliance Industries Ltd plans to shut down a crude unit and some secondary units for maintenance in September-October. The crude units at its 704,000 barrels per day (bpd) export-focused plant will be shut down for 3-4 weeks. Reliance is the operator of the world’s biggest refining complex which houses two plants with a combined capacity of about 1.4 million barrels per day. The shutdown of units would curtail Reliance’s crude imports and may push up gasoline margins.

The US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) has issued Form-483 with zero observations for Solara Active’s Cuddalore facility in Tamil Nadu. The US FDA inspected the facility between July 31 and August 4, 2023. The inspection established that the facility is in an “Acceptable State of Compliance” with Zero Form 483 inspectional observations from the Agency. With this successful inspection outcome, the current inspection classification of the Cuddalore site shall be reinstated to NAI (No Action Indicated).

GCPL Q1 Results: Net profit falls 8% YoY to ₹319 crore

Godrej Consumer Products (GCPL) reported a 7.6% YoY fall in net profit to ₹318.8 crore for Q1 FY24. Its revenue from operations rose 10.4% YoY to ₹3,448.9 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹642.8 crore, up 23.4% YoY. The company’s India business sales grew by 9% YoY led by volume growth of 12%.

Gland Pharma Q1 Results: Net profit falls to ₹194 crore

Gland Pharma reported a 15.3% YoY fall in net profit to ₹194.1 crore for the June quarter (Q1 FY24). Net profit stood at ₹229.1 crore in Q1 FY23. However, total revenue rose 41.1% YoY to ₹1,208.7 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹294 crore, up 8.9% YoY. EBITDA margin stood at 24.3% in the reporting quarter as compared to 31.5% in the corresponding period in the previous fiscal.

EaseMyTrip board approves raising ₹149 cr on a preferential basis

EaseMyTrip’s board has approved raising up to ₹149 crore through a preferential issue of equity shares. The company’s board has also approved the issuance of 3.37 crore preferential shares at ₹44.32 per share. This is at a discount of 9.5% to today’s closing price of ₹40.10. Recently, Easy Trip Planners Ltd had announced plans to acquire a 51% stake in Guideline Travels Holidays India Private Ltd, Dook Travels Private Ltd, and Tripshope Travel Technologies Private Ltd.

Apraava Energy has inked initial pacts with REC Ltd and Power Finance Corporation (PFC) to get finance of ₹9,120 crore. The funding is for wind, transmission, and advanced metering projects in the country. The signing of MoUs took place as part of the Green Finance Summit organised by REC. The summit was on the sidelines of the Green Business Summit Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) and Energy Transition Working Group (ETWG) Ministerial held on July 21, 2023, in Goa.

SBI’s Net Profit Rises 178% YoY to Rs 16,884Cr in Q1 – Top Indian Market Updates

SBI Q1 Results: Net profit jumps 178% YoY to ₹16,884 crore

State Bank of India (SBI) reported a 178.24% YoY jump in net profit to ₹16,884 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24), beating street estimates. Its Net Interest Income (NII) increased 24.7% YoY to ₹38,905 crore during the same period. The bank’s Gross Non-Performing Assets (NPA) reduced to 2.76% compared to 2.78% in Q1 FY23. On the balance sheet side, credit growth was recorded at 13.9% YoY with domestic advances growing at 15.08% YoY.

MCA examines SEBI’s allegations against Zee Ent

According to an ET Now report, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) is examining irregularities in Zee Entertainment Enterprises as alleged by the market regulator SEBI. However, the company said it is not aware of any MCA probe and has not received any such notification from the ministry, news agency Reuters said citing a source. The MCA has taken cognizance of SEBI’s interim order which alleged bogus book entries and siphoning of funds, and is probing lapses in corporate governance issues.

M&M Q1 Results: Net profit rises 98% YoY to ₹2,774 crore

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) reported a 98% YoY increase in standalone net profit to ₹2,774 crore for Q1 FY24. Its revenue from operations rose 22% YoY to ₹24,056 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹3,547 crore, up 46% YoY. In the automotive segment, the company recorded the highest-ever first-quarter volumes at 186,000, up 21% over the previous year’s quarter.

India’s forex reserves fall $3.2 billion to $603.87 billion as on July 28

As per RBI data, India’s foreign exchange reserves dipped $3.2 billion to $603.87 billion for the week ending July 28. Foreign exchange reserves stood at $607.03 billion for the week ended on July 21. Foreign currency assets (FCAs) dropped by $2.4 billion to $535.33 billion. In October 2021, the country’s forex kitty reached an all-time high of USD 645 billion.

The reserves have been declining as the central bank deploys the kitty to defend the rupee amid pressures caused majorly by global developments.

BHEL Q1 Results: Net loss at ₹343 crore

Bharat Heavy Electronics Ltd (BHEL) reported a consolidated net loss of ₹343 crore in Q1 FY24. The company reported a consolidated net loss of ₹187.99 crore in Q1 FY23. The total income of the company rose to ₹5,117.20 crore in the quarter from ₹4,742.28 crore in the same period a year, up 7.9% YoY. However, the company’s total expenses rose to ₹5,595.47 crore in the quarter from ₹5,006.50 crore in the June quarter last year.

IT dept conducts searches across several premises of Kalpataru group

The Income Tax (I-T) department searched the real estate development company Kalpataru Group’s premises in Rajasthan and Mumbai on Friday. According to Deccan Herald, the search sites include the residences of group founder Mofatraj P Munot and Managing Director Parag M Munot. A source quoted in the report said that the misappropriation of funds of “hundreds of crores” have been uncovered.

Delhivery Q1 Results: Net loss narrows to ₹89.5 crore

Delhivery reported a consolidated net loss of ₹89.5 crore for the June quarter (Q1 FY24). Net loss stood at ₹399 crore in Q1 FY23. Consolidated revenue from operations rose 10.5% YoY to ₹1,929 crore during the same period. Express parcel shipment volumes grew 19% YoY to 182 million in the quarter. Truckload and supply chain services businesses saw robust sequential revenue growth of 20% and 10%, respectively.

Blackstone sets its sights on buying out Hamieds from Cipla

Blackstone is set to submit a non-binding bid as early as next week to acquire the entire 33.47% promoter stake in Cipla. Cipla is India’s third-largest generics company by revenue. This will formally start a process that could see the eventual exit of the Hamied family from the company they created in 1935. The move by Blackstone, if it comes about, will also trigger an open offer for an additional 26% of the company.

Devyani International Q1 Results: Net profit falls 84% YoY to ₹12 crore

Devyani International reported a 84% YoY fall in net profit to ₹11.75 crore for Q1 FY24. Net profit stood at ₹73.84 crore in Q1 FY23. However, its revenue from operations rose 20% YoY to ₹846.63 crore during the same period. The decline in net profit was due to a 24% jump in its total expenses which stood at ₹793.16 crore in Q1FY24. The company’s sales were up 12% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ).

The inspection was closed with zero observations.

Sun Pharma Q1 Results: Net profit falls 2% YoY to ₹2,023 crore

Sun Pharma reported a 2% YoY fall in consolidated net profit to ₹2,023 crore in Q1 FY24, missing estimates. However, its operating revenue increased 11% YoY to ₹11,941 crore. EBITDA stood at ₹3,332 crore, up 15.5% YoY. The fall in the net profit was partly due to certain one-time charges totalling ₹323 crore. The company also incurred a one-time transitional cost of ₹51 crore on the relocation of Alchemee operations from California to New York.

The central government has upgraded the petroleum sector central public sector enterprise (CPSE) Oil India Ltd (OIL) to Maharatna, taking the number of Maharatnas to 13. OIL has an annual turnover of ₹41,039 crore and a net profit of ₹9,854 crore. The government has also upgraded ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) as Navratra, taking the number of Navratnas to 14.

Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) for the quarter stood at ₹200, compared to ₹183 in Q1 of FY23.

Eicher Motors reported a 50.38% YoY increase in net profit to ₹918 crore for Q1 FY24; beating street estimates. Its revenue from operations rose 17.33% YoY to ₹3,986.37 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹1,021 crore, up 22.8% YoY. Earlier, the company had reported a 32% YoY rise in its monthly sales in July at 55,555 units of motorcycles. LT Foods’ organic business arm starts new facility in Uganda

LT Foods’ subsidiary Nature Bio Foods has started a new facility in Uganda, Africa. The new facility will procure and process soyabean meals and help in the expansion of the product portfolio, including chia seeds, sesame seeds and sorghum. The plant will have a production capacity of 10,000 tonnes in the first year and aims to scale it up to 18,000 tonnes by 2024.

India’s manufacturing PMI falls to 57.7 in July

India’s manufacturing activity maintained its growth momentum as order growth remained high in July. The IHS Markit India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index came in at 57.7 in July compared to 57.8 in June. New export business growth picked up to the fastest since last November.

PMI is a month-on-month calculation, and a value above 50 represents an expansion compared to the previous month.

Auto sales data for July 2023: Highlights  

Maruti Suzuki India posted a 3% year-on-year (YoY) increase in total sales to 1.82 lakh units in July 2023. Sales of its mini & compact vehicle segment fell 27% YoY to 76,692 units. Exports rose 9.2% YoY to 22,199 units.

Tata Motors Ltd’s total passenger vehicle sales were flat at 47,689 units in July. The automaker’s commercial vehicle sales declined by 4% YoY to 32,944 units.

Mahindra & Mahindra’s total passenger vehicle segment posted total sales of 36,205 units in July, an increase of 29% YoY. M&M’s exports fell 9% YoY to 2,540 units.

TVS Motor Company’s total sales stood at 3.26 lakh units in July, up 4% YoY. Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto’s sales fell 15% YoY to 2.69 lakh units.

Adani Total Gas Q1 Results: Net profit rises 9% YoY to ₹150 crore

Adani Total Gas reported a 9% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to ₹150 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). Its revenue from operations rose by 2% YoY to ₹1,135 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹225 crore, up 12% YoY on account of higher volume and cost optimisation. Larsen and Toubro’s subsidiary L&T Construction has won multiple orders for its heavy civil infrastructure business. The order is from Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) for the design and construction of an underground metro project in connection with the Joka – Esplanade Metro Corridor in the city of Kolkata. The company didn’t disclose the exact value of the orders but defined them as ‘large’ orders. All orders between ₹2,500 crore and ₹5,000 crore are classified under the ‘large’ category by L&T.

PVR Inox reported a consolidated net loss of ₹82 crores for the June quarter (Q1 FY24). However, its revenue from operations rose 32% YoY to ₹1,304 crore during the same period. The loss was primarily due to an over 56% rise in company expenses. The movie exhibition cost jumped to ₹298 crore in Q1FY24, which was up both sequentially and on a YoY basis.

Kolte-Patil Developers has agreed to redevelop two housing societies in the micro-market of Bangur Nagar in Goregaon, western suburbs of Mumbai. The projects with a total saleable area of around 4.8 lakh sq ft are estimated to have a revenue potential of ₹950 crore. The company has already executed a residential redevelopment project spread over 2.77 lakh sq ft in this micro-market and the project has already been sold out with a sales value of ₹495 crore.

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals has received approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) to market a generic diabetes drug in the American market. The company has received final approval from the USFDA for Saxagliptin Tablets, the generic version of AstraZeneca’s Onglyza1 tablets. According to IQVIATM sales data, for the 12 months ending June 2023, the Onglyza tablets achieved annual sales of around USD 100.7 million.

The company’s promoter group will not participate in the buyback. The record date for the buyback will be on August 25, 2023.

DGCA slaps ₹30 lakh fine on IndiGo

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) imposed a penalty of ₹30 lakh on IndiGo for four tail strike incidents in six months of 2023. Recently, DGCA had asked airlines to strictly follow rules as well as sensitise pilots and cabin crew to prevent incidents of unauthorised entry of people into the cockpit. The regulator had also warned that any non-compliance with the applicable regulation dealing with unauthorised cockpit entry shall be dealt with strictly and may also invite stringent enforcement action.

SBI Cards & Payment Services reported a 5% YoY fall in net profit to ₹593 crore for the June quarter (Q1 FY24). Its total income stood at ₹4,046 crore during the same period, up 24% YoY. Total income stood at ₹3,263 crore in Q1 FY23.  Its Gross Non-Performing Assets (GNPA) rose to 2.41% of gross advances against 2.24% last year. Net Non-Performing Assets (NNPA) increased to 0.89% from 0.78% in Q1 FY23.

Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) has secured a four-year contract from Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (HRIDC). The new order is in connection with the development of the New Broad-Gauge Railway Line. The contract value of the project is ₹1,088 crore with an estimated time of completion being four years. The project pertains to RVNL carrying out multiple works for the double gauge Haryana Orbital Rail Corporation (HORC) project that will connect Palwal to Sonipat via Sohna, Manesar, and Kharkhouda.

Barclays Plc, Deutsche Bank AG and Standard Chartered Plc are in talks to lend between $600 million and $750 million collectively to Adani Group. The loan is part of discussions to refinance the debt taken to fund its purchase of Ambuja Cements Ltd. The loan would be syndicated. If executed, the loan of as much as $750 million would be part of that broader refinancing. The talks haven’t yet concluded, and the amounts could still change.

Cipla promoters in talks to sell part stake to private equity firms

According to a CNBC TV18 report, Cipla’s promoters are in talks with private equity firms to sell a part of their total holding in the company. At present, The promoters own a 33.47% stake in the company. An investment bank has been hired to advise on the deal. Furthermore, Private Equity (PE) firms like Blackstone and Baring Asia are amongst others that are in talks to explore a deal.

Kalpataru Projects International and its subsidiaries have bagged orders worth ₹2,261 crore. These new contracts include orders in the T&D (transmission and distribution) business of ₹2,036 crore in overseas markets. Besides, it also got a cross-country oil & gas pipeline project in India of ₹225 crore. It is currently executing projects in over 30 countries and has a presence in 70 nations.

BPCL still in talks for Russian oil deal, discounts narrow

Bharat Petroleum Corp is still in talks with Russian oil major Rosneft to buy oil under a term deal. According to a Reuters report from last month, BPCL is in talks to buy up to 6 million metric tons of Russian oil under a term deal with Rosneft. Indian refiners have been snapping up discounted Russian oil since many other countries imposed sanctions on Moscow after it invaded Ukraine. The discounts make Russian oil cheaper than similar grades from the Middle East.

Tata Motors Q1 Results: Net profit at ₹3,203 crore

Tata Motors Ltd reported a consolidated net profit of ₹3,203 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). The company posted a net loss of ₹5,007 crore in the same quarter last year. Its consolidated revenue from operations rose 42% YoY to ₹1.02 lakh crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹13,218 crore, up 448% YoY. The strong bottom line was aided by a stellar operational performance and strong sales growth.

Hero Future Energies signs Rs 6,200-cr MoUs with PFC, REC

Hero Future Energies (HFE) has signed two agreements with REC and PFC to develop green energy projects. The agreements were signed on the sidelines of the 4th G20 Energy Transition Working Group meeting that concluded last week in Goa. PFC and REC Ltd will infuse ₹3,100 crore each into HFE over the next five years. The funds will be used to develop renewable projects across the country.

L&T Q1 Results: Net profit rises 46% YoY to Rs 2,493 crore

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) reported a 46% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to ₹2,493 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). Its consolidated revenue also rose 34% YoY to ₹47,882 crore during the same period. The board has recommended a dividend of ₹6 per equity share. The company’s order book has crossed ₹4 lakh crore for the first time.

In other news, the board also approved a share buyback worth ₹10,000 crore through the tender offer route.

Tata Motors to replace DVRs with ordinary shares

Tata Motors’ board has approved the cancellation of all the Differential Voting Rights (DVRs) of the company. The cancellation will be through a scheme of arrangement, and allotting ordinary shares, which would rank pari passu with the existing DVRs in the company. The company is yet to seek approval from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). Under the scheme of arrangement, the company will issue 7 fully paid-up ordinary shares of face value ₹2 each, for every 10 DVRs.

Aurobindo Pharma arm gets USFDA nod for Plerixafor injection

Aurobindo Pharma’s subsidiary Eugia Pharma Specialities has received final approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) for its generic version of Plerixafor injection. The injection is indicated for patients with certain types of cancer to prepare them for stem cell transplants. According to IQVIA data, the approved product has an estimated market size of around USD 210 million for the 12 months ending May 2023.

Suzlon Energy reported a 96% YoY fall in consolidated net profit to ₹101 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). Net profit stood at ₹2,433 crore in Q1 FY23. Its consolidated revenue from operations also fell marginally to ₹1,351 crore during the same period. EBITDA stood at ₹199 crore, down 7% YoY.
