Tata Communications reported a 29.8% YoY fall in consolidated net profit to ₹381.7 crore in Q1 FY24. Its total revenue stood at ₹4,771 crore, up 10.7% from last year. EBITDA fell 4.9% YoY to ₹1,024 core against ₹1,077 crore in Q1 FY23. The net profit was impacted by higher interest costs and lower foreign exchange gains against the first quarter of FY23.

Bikaji Foods acquires 49% stake in Bhujialalji for Rs 5 crore

Bikaji Foods International Ltd has acquired a 49% stake and 396 Compulsorily Convertible Debentures (CCDs) in Bhujialalji Pvt. Ltd.  Bhujilalji is an upcoming company in the ethnic snacks industry. The deal comprised 9,608 equity shares and 396 CCDs at ₹5100 value per security aggregating to ₹5.10 crore. The face value is ₹10 per equity share. The acquisition is completed on July 19, 2023.

Jubilant Pharmova Q1 Results: Net profit falls 87% YoY to Rs 6 crore

Jubilant Pharmova reported a 87% YoY fall in consolidated net profit to ₹6 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). The company posted a consolidated net profit of ₹46.8 crore in Q1 FY23. However, the total revenue for the quarter increased 9.53% YoY to ₹1,586.9 crore. Total expenses in the first quarter were at ₹1,568.9 crore, as compared to ₹1,393.8 crore in Q1 last year.

Torrent Power commissions 115 MW wind power project in Gujarat

Torrent Power Ltd has successfully commissioned a 115-megawatt (MW) capacity wind power project in Gujarat. Furthermore, the company has commissioned this wind project through its wholly-owned subsidiary Torrent Solargen Ltd. The wind power project is located in Devbhumi Dwarka district of Gujarat. Torrent Power managed to bag the 115 MW project through a competitive bidding procedure conducted under the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) Wind Tranche V.

Tata Motors to build electric car battery factory in UK for $5 Bn

Tata Motors will build an electric vehicle battery plant in the UK to supply its Jaguar Land Rover factories.  The company will build its first gigafactory outside of India in Britain with an investment of 4 billion pounds ($5.2 billion), thus creating up to 4,000 jobs. The factory will also produce an initial output of 40 gigawatt hours. In addition to this, the move will provide a major boost for the UK car industry in need of domestic battery production to help secure its future.

L&T Finance Q1 Results: Net profit Jumps 103% YoY to Rs 531 crore

L&T Finance Holdings reported a 103% YoY increase in net profit to ₹531 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY24). The company posted a consolidated net profit of ₹262 crore in Q1 FY23. Furthermore, the company’s Net Interest Income (NII) stood at ₹1,644 crore, up 15% YoY against ₹1,433 crore in Q1 last fiscal. The total revenue for the quarter increased 9.53% YoY to ₹1,586.9 crore from ₹1,451.7 crore.

According to the Retailers Association of India (RAI), India’s retail sales grew  7% YoY in June. The quick service restaurant (QSR) category continued to be slow growing at 8%. Categories like beauty and wellness and apparel also grew 8% and 7% in June.  This comes as a result of consumers cutting down discretionary spending amidst high inflation.

The union government has approved the continuation of the central sector plan ‘Exploration of Coal and Lignite scheme’ with an estimated expenditure of Rs 2,980 crore from FY 2021-22 to FY 2025-26. The scheme includes promotional exploration and detailed drilling in non-CIL (non-Coal India Ltd) areas to estimate coal resources. The geological reports generated through these explorations are utilized for auctioning new coal blocks.

NHPC signs agreement for developing 7,350 MW pumped storage hydropower projects in Maharashtra

NHPC has partnered with the Maharashtra government to construct pumped storage hydro projects with a total capacity of 7,350 MW and an investment of Rs 44,000 crore. The agreement also includes the development of other renewable energy projects in Maharashtra. The MoU aims to utilise pumped storage projects as energy storage solutions to support the national objective of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and becoming net zero by 2070.

Torrent Power to build 3 hydro projects for Rs 27,000 crore in Maharashtra

Torrent Power Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government. The agreement is for the development of three pumped storage hydro projects in the state. The projects, with a capacity of 5,700 MW and an investment of around Rs 27,000 crore are expected to create employment for approximately 13,500 people during the construction phase. Allcargo Logistics Ltd’s subsidiary Transindia Real Estate Ltd is selling the Jhajjar logistics park and a 10% stake in other parks to Blackstone. Torrent Power reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 483.93 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4 FY23). The company had posted a net loss of Rs 487 crore last year. However, its total revenue rose 60% YoY to Rs 6,133 crore during Q4 FY23. The company’s board has recommended a dividend of Rs 4 per equity share.

India’s retail inflation falls to 4.7%

India’s retail inflation, measured by the consumer price index (CPI), fell to 4.70% in April, which is below the Reserve Bank of India’s upper limit of 6%. This was due to a decline in food prices. Automobile sales grow in double digits in April: SIAM

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), 3,31,278 passenger vehicles were dispatched from factories to dealerships in April, up 12.9% from 293,303 units sold in April 2022. Industrial production growth declines to 1.1% in March

Reliance Q4 Results: Net profit rises 19% YoY to Rs 19,299 crore

Reliance Industries announced a 19% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 19,299 crore. Revenue is up 2% YoY to Rs 2.16 lakh crore. The company’s EBITDA in Q4 reached a record high of Rs 41,389 crore, rising 22% YoY.

However, due to an expanded asset base across all businesses, depreciation surged 43% YoY to Rs 11,456 crore. Finance costs rose 64% YoY to Rs 5,819 crore on account of higher interest rates and loan balances. RIL’s gross revenue in FY23 rose 23% YoY to Rs 9.76 lakh crore, indicating continued growth momentum across all businesses.

India’s forex reserves rise $1.65 billion to $586.41 billion

India’s forex reserves increased to $586.41 billion, up by $1.65 billion for the week ended April 14. Hindustan Zinc’s net profit fell 12% YoY to Rs 2,583 crore in Q4 FY23. Revenue dropped 4% YoY to Rs 8,281 crore due to lower zinc, lead, and silver prices, partly offset by higher metal and silver volumes. The company reported a 16% YoY decline in EBITDA to Rs 4,208 crore. Credit Suisse takes SpiceJet to Supreme Court over unpaid dues

Credit Suisse has moved the Supreme Court (SC) against SpiceJet, alleging contempt of court over the failure of the domestic carrier to comply with a court-approved settlement plan for payment of dues. SpiceJet told SC on April 21 that it would pay a tranche the same day and the next in May.  The Supreme Court put the contempt plea on hold and will now hear the case on May 17.

The Adani Group will invest more than $100 billion in the next decade, said Chairman Gautam Adani at the Forbes Global CEO Conference in Singapore. Nearly 70% of this investment will be in the energy transition space. The group will add 45 gigawatts of hybrid renewable power generation capacity and build 3 giga factories to manufacture solar panels, wind turbines, and hydrogen electrolysers.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has received a prestigious order for setting up the 2×660 megawatts (MW) Talcher Thermal Power Project Stage-III from NTPC Ltd. State-owned NTPC is investing ₹11,843.75 crore for this project. BHEL is an Indian government-owned engineering and manufacturing enterprise based in New Delhi, India. 

Power Grid to invest Rs 327.7 crore in Gujarat transmission line

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd’s (PGCIL) board has approved an investment of ₹327.71 crore for the transmission project line in Gujarat. PGCIL will link its pooling station with Reliance Industries Ltd’s Jamnagar oil refinery in Gujarat. The scheduled commissioning date is September 2023.

Muthoot Finance has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UAE-based Lulu International Exchange to work as its collection partner. HFCL Ltd has secured orders worth ₹202.6 crore from three customers. The company has received a purchase order of ₹167.60 crore from Reliance Retail and Reliance Projects & Property Management Services for the supply of optical fibre cables (OFC). It has also bagged an order of ₹35 crore from one of its overseas customers for the supply of OFCs and related accessories.

India’s inclusion into key government bond index pushed back to next year: Report

As per a Reuters report, Indian government bonds will likely only be included in the JPMorgan emerging market global index early next year as the govt. still needs to address various operational issues. Investors had expected a decision on this could come this month when operators meet to review the composition of the index and after Russia’s exit earlier this year. The rupee turned lower and bond yields rose after news of the delay in inclusion.

WPI inflation eases to 15.18% in June

India’s wholesale inflation eased to 15.18% in June 2022. The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) had surged to 15.88% in May, while WPI for April was revised to 15.38%. Inflation in the food articles segment witnessed a spike of 14.39% in June, primarily due to a rise in vegetable prices. The fuel and power segment eased to 40.38% in June, compared to 40.62% in May. The manufactured goods segment eased from 10.11% in May to 9.19% in June.

L&T Infotech Q1 Results: Net profit rises 27% YoY to Rs 634 crore

Larsen & Toubro Infotech (LTI) reported a 27.6% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 634.4 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY23). Its revenue from operations grew 30.6% YoY (or 5.1% QoQ) to Rs 4,522.8 crore during the same period. The IT company’s EBITDA stood at Rs 830.8 crore, up 28.3% YoY. LTI secured four large deal wins in Q1, with a net total contract value (TCV) of $79 million.

Bharti Airtel’s board approves preferential allotment of 7.11 crore shares to Google

Bharti Airtel Ltd’s board has approved the preferential allotment of 7.11 crore shares to US-based tech major Google at Rs 734 per share. Google will hold 1.2% of the total post-issue equity shares of the telecom company. In January 2022, the search engine giant announced an investment of $700 million (~Rs 5,600 crore) to acquire a 1.28 percent stake in Bharti Airtel. Google will also invest another $300 million in multi-year commercial agreements.

Torrent Power secures Rs 2,600 crore wind energy project from SECI

Torrent Power Ltd has secured a 300 megawatts (MW) wind energy project in Karnakata from Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The estimated cost of the project is Rs 2,600 crore. The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) term is 25 years from the scheduled commercial operation date at a tariff of Rs 2.94 per kilowatt hour (kWh).

Marico expects better demand, margins in H2 FY23

Marico Ltd expects demand and margin trends to improve towards the second half of FY23 on the likely easing of crude and edible oil prices in the next few months. The FMCG firm will closely watch rural growth and is hopeful of a demand recovery due to a good harvest season, typical monsoon forecast, and government spending. Marico expects consolidated operating margin to be in the range of 18-19% in FY23.

ACC Limited reported a 60.07% YoY decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 227.35 crore for the quarter ended June (Q2 CY23). The cement manufacturer follows the January-December financial year cycle. Its revenue from operations grew 15% YoY to Rs 4,468.42 crore during the same period. Total expenses stood at Rs 4,221.74 crore in Q2, up 32.94% YoY.

Adani Ports, Israel’s Gadot to acquire Haifa Port

A consortium formed of India’s Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) and Israel-based Gadot has won a tender for the privatization of the Port of Haifa, one of Israel’s largest seaports. The group will acquire the port for 4.1 billion shekels ($1.18 billion). In recent years, Israel has been selling its government-owned ports and allowing private piers to be built to shorten wait times for cargo ships and lower import costs.

Tata Elxsi Ltd reported a 62.9% YoY increase in net profit to Rs 184.7 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY23). Net profit rose 15.4% when compared to the previous quarter. Its revenue from operations grew 30% YoY (or 6.5% QoQ) to Rs 725.9 crore during the same period. The IT company’s EBITDA stood at Rs 238.2 crore in Q1, up 58.8% YoY. Tata Elxsi crossed the 10,000 employee mark with 771 net additions.

Retail inflation at 7.04% in May

India’s retail inflation fell to 7.04% in May 2022 from an eight-year high of 7.79% in April, aided by a favourable base effect. Sequentially, price increases remained elevated with the Consumer Price Inflation (CPI) index rising 0.94% over the previous month. Inflation in food and beverages stood at 7.97% in May, compared with 8.31% in April. Fuel and light inflation stood at 9.54% in May against 10.8% in April.

Amara Raja Power Systems (ARPS) has secured a contract from NTPC Ltd to set up India’s first green hydrogen fuelling station in Leh. Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd plans to raise long-term funds up to Rs 925 crore by issuing non-convertible debentures (NCDs) on a private placement basis. SpiceJet acquires certifications for cargo delivery to EU and UK

SpiceJet Ltd has secured RA3 (Regulated Agent Third country) and ACC3 (Air Cargo or Mail Carrier operating into the Union from a Third Country Airport) certifications. These certifications will allow SpiceJet to transport mail and cargo of other airlines to or via the European Union and the United Kingdom. Torrent Power Ltd has completed the acquisition of a 50 megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Telangana from SkyPower Group for Rs 416 crore. The plant has a long-term power purchase agreement with Nothern Power Distribution Company of Telangana for 25 years at a fixed tariff rate of Rs 5.35 per unit. With this acquisition, Torrent Power’s total generation capacity will reach 4.7 gigawatts (GW).

Future Retail Ltd (FRL) accused Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) of forcefully taking over stores and asserted that it did not hand over any of its retail units to the conglomerate. Oil India’s board approves Rs 6,555 crore investment for Numaligarh petrochemical project

Oil India Ltd’s board has approved an investment of Rs 6,555 crore in its subsidiary, Numaligarh Refinery. The capital will be allocated for implementing a petrochemical project (a polypropylene unit and associated facilities) at the refinery. The board has also approved the formation of a joint venture (JV) between Assam Gas and Oil India. The JV will take over three geographical areas offered by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board under the 11th round of city gas distribution bidding.

The company is also looking to raise capital separately for its electric vehicle (EV) business. It is aiming for 25% sales from the EV segment in the medium to long term. NTPC Q1 Results: Net profit rises 18% YoY to Rs 3,411 crore 

NTPC Limited reported an 18% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 3,411.56 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY22). Net profit has declined by 24.9% when compared to the previous quarter. Its revenue from operations rose 14% YoY to Rs 29,888.02 crore during the same period. The company’s gross power generation increased to 71.74 billion units (BU) in Q1 FY22, compared to 60.18 BU in Q1 FY21. NTPC’s board has approved a proposal to raise up to Rs 18,000 crore through the issuance of non-convertible debentures.

Torrent Power to acquire 50-MW solar power plant from Lightsource India

Torrent Power Ltd has signed a share purchase agreement with Lighsource India and Lightsource Energy (India) for the acquisition of 100% of the share capital and all securities of LREHL Renewables India SPV 1. The special purpose vehicle (SPV) operates a 50 megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Maharashtra. It has a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for full capacity for a period of 25 years. The estimated enterprise value for this acquisition is ~Rs 317 crore.

IDFC First Bank Q1 Results: Net loss at Rs 630 crore

IDFC First Bank reported a net loss of Rs 630 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY22). It had posted a net profit of Rs 93.55 crore in Q1 FY21 and Rs 127.81 crore in Q4 FY21 (previous quarter). The bank’s net interest income (NII) rose 25% YoY to Rs 2,185 crore in Q1 FY22. The gross non-performing assets (GNPA) ratio stood at Rs 4.61% in Q1 FY22, compared to 4.15% in the previous quarter. IDFC First Bank had created additional Covid-19 provisions of Rs 350 crore in Q1, taking the total Covid-19 provision pool to Rs 725 crore.

Central Depository Services Ltd (CDSL) reported a 37% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 64 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY22). Net profit has increased by 23% when compared to the previous quarter. Its total income rose 51% YoY to Rs 130 crore during the same period. CDSL maintains and services ~3.9 crore demat accounts of investors or beneficial owners across India.

PI Industries Q1 Results: Net profit rises 29% YoY to Rs 187 crore

PI Industries Ltd reported a 28.6% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 187.2 crore for the quarter ended June (Q1 FY22). Net profit has increased by 4.12% when compared to the previous quarter. Its total income rose 14.3% YoY to Rs 1,221.5 crore during the same period. PI Industries has entered into a business transfer agreement with Ind Swift Laboratories Ltd (ISLL) and certain promoters of ISLL for the acquisition of its API business division for Rs 1,530 crore.

Krsnaa Diagnostics Ltd will launch its initial public offering (IPO) on August 4. The company has fixed a price band of Rs 933-954 per share for its public issue. The IPO consists of a fresh issue of shares aggregating to Rs 400 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of up to 85.3 lakh shares. The proceeds from the issue will be used for establishing diagnostics centers in Punjab, Haryana, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. A part of the proceeds will also be used to repay debt.

Meanwhile, Devyani International will also launch its IPO on August 4. It is the largest franchisee of KFC, Pizza Hut, and Costa Coffee in India. The company has fixed a price band of Rs 86-90 per share for its IPO.

Its revenue from operation declined by 0.5% YoY (increased by 8.7% QoQ) to Rs 3,403.5 crore during the same period. EBITDA declined by 22.8% YoY to Rs 553.8 crore in Q1.

Bosch Q4 Results: Net profit jumps 5 times to Rs 482 crore

Bosch Limited reported a 495% YoY increase in net profit to Rs 482 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4). Net profit has jumped 161% when compared to the previous quarter. Its revenue from operations rose 44% YoY to Rs 3,217 crore during the same period. Bosch’s Mobility Solutions Business segment grew 56.6% in Q4. For the financial year ended March 31, 2021 (FY21), net profit has declined by 26% YoY to Rs 480.7 crore. The company’s board has recommended a dividend of Rs 115 per share.

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) reported a 28% quarter-on-quarter (or 400% YoY) increase in net profit to Rs 3017.96 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4). Its total income stood at Rs 85,748 crore in Q4 FY21, compared with Rs 71,978.62 crore in Q4 FY20. The average gross revenue margin (GRM) stood at $3.86 per barrel, compared to $1.02 per barrel in Q4 FY20. HPCL’s board has recommended a final dividend of Rs 22.75 per share.

Unichem Laboratories has received approval for its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for Amitriptyline HCl tablets from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA). The drug is indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. It is a generic version of ‘ELAVIL’ of AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals. The product will be manufactured and distributed from Unichem Lab’s plant in Goa.

Havells India reported a 70.95% YoY increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 303.83 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4). Net profit has declined by 13.2% when compared to the previous quarter. Its revenue from operations rose 50.59% YoY to Rs 3,339.21 crore during the same period. The company’s cable segment grew 50.85% YoY to Rs 1,029.20 crore, while revenue from the lighting and fixtures segment rose 43% YoY to Rs 336.74 crore. The board of Havells India has announced a total dividend of Rs 6.50 per share.

SEBI fines Biocon, senior executive for violating market norms

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has imposed a total penalty of Rs 14 lakh on Biocon Limited and one of its senior executives for violation of market norms. Narendra Chirmule, senior Vice President of Research & Development (R&D), had traded in the company’s shares when the trading window was closed. Biocon failed to notify the particulars of the executives’ trading details to SEBI within the stipulated time. The company is facing a penalty of Rs 9 lakh for violating various provisions of Prohibition of Insider Trading (PIT) norms.

Relaxo Q4 Results: Net profit rises 97% YoY to Rs 102 crore

Relaxo Footwears Ltd reported a 97.23% YoY increase in net profit to Rs 102.17 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4). Net profit has increased by 13.4% when compared to the previous quarter. Steel Strips Wheels secures export orders of over 97,000 wheels for US and EU market

Steel Strips Wheels Ltd (SSWL) has received export orders of more than 97,000 wheels from the trailer and caravan markets of the US and European Union (EU). The orders will be executed by early July 2021 from its plants in Chennai and Dappar (Punjab). SSWL stated that orders of similar capacity are anticipated in the coming months from a similar customer base as businesses continue to recover rapidly.

Zee Entertainment Q4 Results: Net profit at Rs 276 crore

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 275.8 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4 FY21). It had posted a net loss of Rs 766.70 crore in the corresponding period last year (Q4 FY20). ZEEL’s revenue from operations grew 0.8% YoY to Rs 1,965.8 crore in Q4 FY21. The company’s advertising revenue grew 8.09% YoY to Rs 1,122.96 crore during the same period. ZEEL’s board has recommended a dividend of Rs 2.5 per share.

Happiest Minds Technologies has signed a managed service provider (MSP) agreement with CyberArk to deliver end-to-end next-gen privileged access management services to customers across verticals and geographies. CyberArk is an information security company based in the United States. Through this deal, Happiest Minds aims to address the evolving need for credentials management in multi-cloud environments and robotic process automation through end-to-end consulting, implementation, and maintenance services.

Torrent Power Q4 Results: Net profit at Rs 398 crore

Torrent Power reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 398.10 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4 FY21). It had posted a net loss of Rs 273.94 in the corresponding quarter a year ago (Q4 FY20). Its total income rose 3.17% YoY to Rs 3116.54 crore in Q4 FY21. For the financial year ended March 31, 2021 (FY21), net profit has increased by 10% YoY to Rs 1,295.87 crore. JK Lakshmi Cement Q4 Results: Net profit rises 54% YoY to Rs 153 crore

JK Lakshmi Cement reported a 54.22% YoY (or 34% QoQ) rise in net profit to Rs 152.91 crore for the quarter ended March (Q4). Its total income rose 25% YoY to Rs 1,451.72 crore during the same period. For the financial year ended March 31, 2021 (FY21), net profit increased by 63.5% YoY to Rs 405.38 crore. The company’s board has recomennded a final dividend of Rs 3.75 per share.

Mindtree to acquire L&T’s NxT Digital for Rs 198 cr

Mindtree Ltd has signed an agreement to acquire NxT Digital Business from Larsen and Toubro (L&T) Group for Rs 198 crore. This acquisition would enable Mindtree to capture opportunities in the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0 market by leveraging the capabilities of NxT Digital Business to cross-sell and create holistic solutions for new prospects as well as for existing clients. The transaction is expected to be completed by July 31, 2021.
